Confident of Kushaq sales bouncing back in 1-2 months: New Skoda boss. Facelift coming soon

Hindustan Times2 days ago

The newly launched Skoda Kylaq has been cannibalising sales of the Kushaq within the brand's stable. Nevertheless, the compact SUV is set to receive benefits, discounts, and a facelift soon Check Offers
The Skoda Kushaq has seen a dip in volumes in the last few months, with the newly launched Kylaq cannibalising sales of its elder sibling in the brand's stable. With both models sharing the same underpinnings and even the feature list, the Kylaq has witnessed a phenomenal growth since sales began in March this year, albeit at the cost of the Kushaq. Nevertheless, Skoda Auto India's new boss, Ashish Gupta, says the sales volumes will come back to the Kushaq in the next one to two months.
Why Kushaq Sales Dropped This Year?
Explaining why sales have taken a beating for the Kushaq, Ashish Gupta said, 'It's not like demand for the Kushaq has gone down. Instead, our dealerships were used to deal with a certain type of customer. Our dealers knew how to handle that customer base very well. With the introduction of the Kylaq, a completely different set of customers are coming to our dealerships. Our staff is now on the learning curve on how to handle customers for these two completely different cars. And that learning is fast because the sales pressure is always there. I am confident that in the next one or two months, the Kushaq will bounce back."

'Of course, easier said than done, we will also, as a brand, have to take certain actions. We know that the Kushaq is now in the fourth year of its lifecycle. We know that we will have to maybe go aggressive in the market to compete with the rivals that exist in the market. There is already pressure on stocks, discounts are at an all-time high, so we will have to play the game," he added further. The Skoda Kushaq is built at SAVWIPL's Chakan facility in Maharashtra, alongside the Slavia and Kylaq, as well as the VW Taigun and Virtus Skoda Kushaq Sales Report
Between March and May 2025, Skoda sold an average of 775 units of the Kushaq, a stark drop when compared to average sales of 1,624 units between December 2024 and February 2025. Meanwhile, Kushaq sales averaged about 1,546 units between July and November 2024. Ashish hinted at rolling out special benefits for the Kushaq to get sales back on track, while also acknowledging that a comprehensive update is in need.
The Skoda Kushaq arrived in the market in 2021 and expanded the automaker's addressable market share to 21 per cent, up from just seven per cent in 2020. With the Kylaq, the brand's addressable market has risen to 58 per cent in 2025.

Thankfully, Skoda India is working on the Kushaq facelift that is currently under development. We've seen the test mules on several occasions, with the camouflaged bits indicating cosmetic changes to the front and rear, in line with the new 'Modern Solid' design language, which debuted on the Kylaq in India. Skoda is also expected to increase the feature quotient on the SUV with Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, a higher quality rearview camera, and more, as part of the package.
The Kushaq facelift will continue with the same 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine options. The former makes 114 bhp and 178 Nm paired with a 6-speed manual and a torque converter. The latter produces 148 bhp and 250 Nm, paired with the 7-speed DSG automatic. The updated offering is expected to arrive sometime next year. Prices for the Skoda Kushaq range currently start from ₹ 11 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.

Skoda Kushaq Facelift Spied With Updated Look And New Elements, Check Details

Last Updated: It has been reported that the upcoming Kushaq facelift will get the Level 2 ADAS, levelling up the overall safety and advanced features. After winning the hearts of many and collecting decent sales figures with Kushaq, Skoda is now gearing up to bring the updated version of the mid-size SUV. A concrete launch date is not known yet as the company has not revealed many details about the same. However, the way spy images started circulating on the internet is a clear hint that the release is just around the corner. A test mule was spotted during the testing phase, revealing some of the important details and key features about the upcoming offering. Here's What Spy Images Say Despite being fully covered in heavy camouflage, the vehicle somehow features slight nip-and-tuck updates from the outside. It is likely to get an updated bumper, improved front fascia, and a refreshed grill at the front. The side profile is likely to remain the same, as the test mule did not show any enhancement as the panel was fully exposed. It continues to get body colour door handles, window garnish, roof rails, decent-sized cladding and same style ORVMs. The customers might get new style alloy wheels, which will make it look bolder as compared to the outgoing version. Rear Updates When it comes to the back profile, the upcoming Skoda Kushaq facelift will get slimmer tail-lamps. It will be bridged by a protruding section and is likely to be complemented by an LED strip on the tailgate. It is also likely to get some noticeable updates towards the rear bumper as well as the panel was heavily camouflaged, and tried to conceal the updated detail. It has been reported that the upcoming Kushaq facelift will get the Level 2 ADAS, levelling up the overall safety and advanced features. Nothing will be changed under the hood, which means the car will use the same 1.0-litre petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines. As far as the rivals are concerned, it is clear that once launched, it will create tough competition for Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor and Tata Curvv.

Skoda Kylaq SUV may get CNG powertrain, new variants. Launch in…

Skoda Kylaq is the most affordable offering from the Czech carmaker in India. The sub-compact SUV has given Skoda access to a segment which is considered the most competitive space in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The Volkswagen AG-owned automaker that has been known as an affordable premium car manufacturer has entered the league of mass-market segment with the Kylaq. Skoda has claimed that following the launch of the Kylaq in India, the OEM has been able to become the seventh car manufacturer in the country in 2024, up from the 11th position in the previous year. Now, Skoda aims to hold this position, and in that strategy, Kylq is going to be a key product. One key technology upgrade expected to be introduced to the Skoda Kylaq is a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain. The compact SUV segment in the Indian market has multiple petrol-CNG models. Kylaq could be the next entrant in the space. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, has revealed that the automaker is mulling the plan to introduce a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain. However, he didn't reveal any timeline for the launch of this powertrain technology. The automaker is currently looking at the compatibility of a CNG kit for its turbocharged petrol engines as a part of broader powertrain offerings for the Indian market. Interestingly, this news comes in line with the automaker's announcement during the Kylaq launch, where the OEM said that it was open to CNG for India, but would only take the decision if there is volume potential. Skoda Kylaq is likely to receive a new variant in the lower range. It would come as a second or third base variant. The car manufacturer aims to increase the appeal of the Kylaq with the launch of this new variant. However, Skoda has not revealed any timeframe for the introduction of this new variant. Gupta has hinted that the OEM is considering bringing a new variant of the Kylaq. However, he also stated that a new variant takes time to be launched in the market. In that case, we can expect a new variant for the Kylaq to come into the market sometime later this year or in early next year.

Skoda Kylaq To Get A CNG Powertrain Option, Here's What To Expect

Skoda launched the Kylaq SUV in November 2025, and the brand is now planning to equip it with a new powertrain option for Indian customers. Skoda India has vocalized its interest in evaluating the CNG compatibility of the turbo engines offered in the Skoda cars. As of now, there's no timeline announced for the launch of CNG models, as the development strategy is underway. However, it might not be a tough integration by the Czech-based automaker, as the brand already has a CNG powertrain available in the internationally available Octavia, Scala, and Citigo hatchbacks. Also, Skoda is not the first automaker to come up with a CNG powertrain with a turbo-petrol unit. The Tata Nexon already offers a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine equipped with a CNG unit, which is available as an option. Skoda Kylaq Other sub-4 meter SUVs that get CNG options are the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Toyota Taisor, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger. However, it is yet to be seen whether Skoda offers the CNG powertrain as a standard fitment or as an OEM-approved dealer-level kit.
