Sitaare Zameen Par Advance Bookings: Aamir Khan Film Looks At A Rs 3.61 Crore Opening

Advance ticket sales for Sitaare Zameen Par are slow after Aamir Khan rejected a ₹120 cr OTT deal, hoping for a full theatrical release.
Sitaare Zameen Par advance bookings: Aamir Khan is back on the big screen after a three-year break, and this time he's challenging Bollywood's OTT-dominated landscape. His film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, has been held back from a lucrative Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video. Aamir believes this theatrical-first model is essential to revitalise cinema.
But the gamble hasn't sparked audience excitement yet. Early data from Sacnilk.com, released Wednesday morning, shows a modest Rs 99.74 lakh in advance bookings for opening day—amounting to 38,770 seats sold across 6,128 shows.
The Hindi version leads the charge with Rs 90.64 lakh from 29,689 tickets in 5,764 screenings. The Telugu version earned Rs 7.87 lakh across 276 shows, while the Tamil version garnered Rs 1.22 lakh from 88 shows. Including blocked seats, total receipts could reach Rs 3.61 crore. Regionally, Delhi tops the list with Rs 24.09 lakh, followed by Maharashtra at Rs 15.73 lakh and Telangana at Rs 12.47 lakh. With blocked seats taken into account, the film is expected to earn Rs 3.61 crore on the opening day.
These numbers are a far cry from Aamir's past films—Thugs of Hindostan brought in Rs 27.5 crore in advance and Laal Singh Chaddha earned Rs 5.71 crore—despite both eventually flopping. Still, Sitaare Zameen Par operates with a smaller budget, making direct comparisons unfair.
Set to release on Friday, June 20, Sitaare Zameen Par stars Aamir alongside Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, and others. The screenplay is by Divy Nidhi Sharma, with Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy composing the music, Ram Sampath scoring the background, and visuals by cinematographer Srinivas Reddy. Charu Shree Roy handles the editing.
Now, all eyes are on how audiences respond during the theatrical run—and whether glowing early reviews can help build momentum.
Meanwhile, after days of speculation surrounding a possible delay, Aamir Khan's much-anticipated film, Sitaare Zameen Par, has officially received its clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), confirming its theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
The film, billed as a spiritual successor to Khan's critically acclaimed 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, had recently made headlines over reports suggesting a dispute between the actor-producer and the CBFC regarding proposed cuts. While neither party issued a public statement about the nature of the disagreement, it appears the issue has now been resolved.
After Aamir was not satisified with the changes asked by CBFC's Examining Committee, the Revising Committee (RC), headed by Vaman Kendre, viewed the film on Monday, June 16. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, they asked the makers to replace 'Business Woman' with 'Business Person'. In another scene, the RC replaced 'Michael Jackson' to 'Lovebirds'. A visual with the word 'Kamal' was asked to be removed and replaced without the 'lotus' word. The old disclaimer was deleted and a new disclaimer was added with the voiceover. Finally, the CBFC's RC asked the makers to add a quote of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the opening disclaimer.

Movies, money, motherhood: Why can't Bollywood's women have it all?

It's unusual for the film industry to debate what kind of support a new mother needs or the importance of work-life balance. However, the recent controversy over actor Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's next film, Spirit, as well as a series of comments and observations made by different celebrities on working hours, has put the spotlight on issues that are often brushed under the carpet. It has been almost three weeks since Padukone, one of India's top stars, reportedly walked out of Spirit because her demand for a paycheck of Rs 20 crore (some reports say Rs 25 crore), a cut of the profits, and, most significantly, an eight-hour shift was allegedly not met. Earlier reports of her joining the Spirit cast and commanding an astronomical fee were projected as a 'hurrah moment' for Padukone, personally, as well as more broadly, for the film industry, where a huge gender-based pay disparity is the norm. In a rapid turn of events, Padukone, who was hailed as a 'game-changer', was obliquely referred to as a 'frustrated cat' by Vanga in his now-viral tweet. The dispute has, as expected, drawn polarised reactions, with the actor being both trolled and lauded for her demands. Any support expressed by Padukone's colleagues has either been storified or widely shared on social media platforms. Inadvertently, the episode marks a rare moment when the requirements and choices of a working mother become industry talking points. In a welcome change, the discourse acknowledges Padukone's demand for high remuneration, instead of merely questioning her commercial value. These exchanges indicate that perceptions about women stars — their demands and their status — have shifted. Director Kabir Khan, while speaking to Movified, asked that when top male actors like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar work an eight-hour shift, why couldn't the same provision be extended to Padukone? Commenting on the high remuneration that she was supposedly charging, he said 'Deepika consistently pulls crowds, so she rightly commands the fee she does.' Actor Neha Dhupia too posted: 'For work-life balance to go beyond conversations, new moms need practical support and consideration. Instead, we often get shamed or sidelined.' It is no secret that, thanks to an entrenched patriarchal mindset and sexist practices in the film industry, marriage was seen as a career setback for female stars, weakening their star power. Motherhood is the other dreaded M-word, long perceived as substantially reducing the value of female stars who are under constant pressure to be 'objects of desire'. Popular stars such as Sridevi and Kajol either slowed down or shifted their focus away from movies for some years after embracing motherhood. Actor Kiara Advani, who showed off her baby bump at her MET Gala debut last month, had earlier bowed out of Farhan Akhtar's next directorial outing Don 3, making way for Sharvari Wagh to star opposite Ranveer Singh. Yet, change has been building, one woman at a time. Years ago, Kareena Kapoor made the refreshing choice to not hide her 'live-in' relationship with Saif Ali Khan or her pregnancies. She normalised these developments as a part of her life and career trajectory. So did Alia Bhatt, who worked through her pregnancy, and promoted Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022) sporting an outfit with the words 'Baby on Board' written on the back. Padukone, too, shot for Kalki 2898 AD and promoted it during her pregnancy, notwithstanding the constant trolling that she was 'faking her pregnancy'. While Padukone has not addressed speculation about her fallout with Vanga, she has hinted at her stand on this issue. Having earlier stated that she would raise her daughter Dua herself, the actor told Vogue Arabia, following the Spirit controversy, 'Whenever I'm faced with complicated or difficult situations, to be able to listen to my inner voice and just stand by decisions that really give me a lot of peace is when I feel most in equilibrium.' This was followed by a slick video shared on Instagram on June 7 which revealed that Padukone will play a fierce warrior in an Atlee-directed project, titled 'AA22 x A6'. The message of the video was loud and clear: 'The Queen marches to conquer,' said the caption. In a highly competitive industry, retaining status and star-power, without sacrificing personal priorities, requires constant hustle. By sticking to her guns, Padukone sends out a strong message about claiming what she is worth even as she remains a hand-on mother. This, more than commanding a hefty fee for acting in Vanga's project, is likely to be the real 'game-changing moment'.

The much-awaited trailer of Dhanush and Nagarjuna starrer 'Kuberaa' was released a couple of days ago, offering an intense glimpse into a world where ambition, power and morality collide. The film is helmed by the 'Dollar Dreams' fame director Sekhar Kammula. The trailer opens with Dhanush posing a curious question about crores, hinting at his character's involvement in the game of money and power. In the film, Nagarjuna appears to be a man of influence who believes that the country is run only by 'money' and 'power' and not by laws and rules. The trailer then unfolds the rising tensions between Nagarjuna, Jim Sarbh, and the government as they desperately try to track down Dhanush, who appears to hold the power to disrupt their game of money and greed. Rashmika Mandanna is expected to play Dhanush's love interest in the film, as shown in the trailer. Rashmika Mandanna's character appears to be emotionally vulnerable as she warns Dhanush about the unshakable control of the rich and powerful. The music of Devi Sri Prasad adds a mysterious touch to the film, leaving the audience with more questions than answers after the trailer. The film is jointly produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the banner of Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations Pvt Ltd. (ANI)
