US-based PPG achieves ISO certification for sustainability tools

Fibre2Fashion2 days ago

PPG (NYSE:PPG) announced that its in-house tools for cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint (PCF) measurement and life cycle assessment (LCA) have been validated to internationally recognized ISO standards by independent accreditation firm WAP Sustainability Consulting. In addition, PPG's environmental product declaration (EPD) process has been certified by the International EPD system, the world's largest EPD publisher.
PPG's tools for measuring product carbon footprints and life cycle assessments have been validated to ISO standards by WAP Sustainability Consulting. Its environmental product declaration (EPD) process is now certified by the International EPD system. These third-party verifications enhance sustainability reporting, speed up delivery, and support green building goals.
PCFs measure the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with a product's life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. LCAs evaluate the environmental impacts associated with all stages of a product's life cycle. An EPD discloses the environmental impacts of a product throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal.
'Having third-party verified LCA, PCF and EPD processes enable our customers to utilize trusted sustainability product information for their reporting, procurement decisions, or to qualify for green building certifications,' said Shen Tian, PPG global manager, product sustainability. 'These capabilities play an important role in meeting our goal to be our customers' first choice partner for paints, coatings and specialty products.'
Aligned to increasing customer demand, the verification process has enabled PPG to significantly shorten the delivery time of EPDs, PCFs and LCAs, and to make the tools globally available to its employees to better serve customers.
