A man has been charged with several offences in connection with an incident that left a police officer injured.
The officer was pulled by a moving vehicle and dragged along the road in Kilkeel, Co Down, on Friday.
He was not seriously injured, but did require hospital treatment.
A 21-year-old has subsequently been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
He is due to appear before Newry Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 27th August.
A senior officer said the incident was unacceptable.
Inspector Connolly said that officers were conducting traffic duties on the Mountain Road when the incident took place.
He added: "The officer sustained an arm injury and was unable to continue with his duties.
"He has since attended hospital for treatment."
Inspector Connolly continued: "Our investigation into this matter is ongoing.
"Police officers carry out their job knowing that on any given day they could be faced with difficult and dangerous situations, but it is completely unacceptable that they should be deliberately injured.
'The outcome of the driver's actions could have been much more serious and the public should rest assured that the perpetrator will face the consequences.
"We would appeal to anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1742 of 01/08/25.'

Face of Dublin man accused of strangling woman during assault in his home
He appeared before Judge Patricia Cronin at Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday for developments in his case, which was upgraded with a more serious charge. A Dublin man is to stand trial accused of strangling a woman during a non-fatal assault at his home. Lee Quinn, 29, of Keeper Road, Dublin 12 was initially charged with criminal damage to a door, bed and window and a minor category assault of a named woman, at his home address on June 3 last. He was remanded in custody the following day. News in 90 Seconds - August 6th He appeared before Judge Patricia Cronin at Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday for developments in his case, which was upgraded with a more serious charge. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) authorised investigating officer, Garda Adam Deegan, to bring an additional charge under section 3A of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act for strangulation of the woman, who did not have to attend the proceedings today. The Sundrive Road-based garda told Judge Cronin that the DPP has directed 'trial on indictment' in the Circuit Court, and that the accused could be sent forward for sentencing on a signed plea should that arise. Garda Deegan said Mr Quinn was cautioned and 'made no reply' when the extra alleged offence was put to him today shortly before his court hearing. Defence solicitor Katie Dowling said her client, who did not address the court, was not applying for bail. She also granted an order for disclosure of evidence for Mr Quinn to consider, if he wished to enter a guilty plea. Judge Cronin remanded him in custody to appear again in one week, the longest period available, due to the new charge. She said that was to let the accused consider his position, but noted that he may not have had an opportunity to do so by that stage. Legal aid was granted to Mr Quinn, who will appear again via video link at his next hearing.

Caspar Lund is on bail facing three charges arising from an incident on 19 May this year A barrister for a Co Down businessman who doused himself in petrol and threatened to set himself alight in a neighbour dispute, confirmed today the defendant is denying the offences. Caspar John Lund had been excused from attending Newtownards Magistrates Court where defence counsel Peter Canavan confirmed the 52-year-old 'wants to pleads not guilty' to each of the three charges against him. Lund, from Clanbrassil Terrace in Holywood, is on bail facing three charges arising from an incident on 19 May this year. Caspar Lund News in 90 Seconds - August 6th The 52-year-old, former antique dealer is charged with causing criminal damage to his neighbour's door mat and carpet, using disorderly behaviour at the Ulster Hospital and making a threat to police that he would damage his neighbour's property. An earlier court heard how the charges arise after Lund 'poured petrol over himself and threatened to set fire to himself' at the Cultra apartment block overlooking Belfast Lough. Fearing the potentially lethal consequences, the people upstairs, 'a couple in their 80s, contacted the police.' Caspar Lund Officers attended and detained Lund but due to concerns over his mental health, he was taken to the Ulster Hospital and when he was there, Lund was allegedly behaving in a disorderly manner. While Mr Canavan formally entered not guilty pleas today, the court has heard before that Lund 'admitted the incident at interview and he accepts the facts.' Adjourning the case to 26 August to fix a date for the contest, District Judge Mark Hamill said Lund could be excused from attending that hearing as well. The judge warned however that if the 52-year-old failed to attend the trial, 'it will proceed in his absence.'
