India China News: In another significant move to surround India from all sides, China reportedly hosted a trilateral meeting with New Delhi's arch enemies, Pakistan and Bangladesh, on Thursday, as the three nations held discussions on a hosts of topics ranging from trilateral cooperation to maritime affairs and regional security.
According to media reports, the meeting was attended by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, Bangladesh's Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddiqui and Pakistan's Additional Foreign Secretary Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, while Pakistan Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch also joined the first phase of the discussions held in China's Kunming city via video link. Trilateral partnership not against any country
Baloch hailed China for hosting the trilateral meet, and noted the Pakistan-China bilateral relations, adding that Islamabad is ready to enhance cooperation with Bangladesh in various areas. 'Pakistan wants deeper engagement between China and South Asian countries,' she said, according to an official statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry after the meeting.
As per the statement, the foreign secretaries of the three nations agreed to enhance trilateral cooperation in various fields such as trade, investment, health, education and maritime affairs. It also revealed that the three countries will form a working group to follow up and implement the consensus reached during the meeting.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry proclaimed that the China-Pakistan-Bangladesh partnership follows true multilateralism and open regionalism and asserted that the cooperation is not targeted against any country. Alarm bells for Delhi
The trilateral meet, the first hosted by Beijing in its recent history, is a matter of major concern for New Delhi, as both Pakistan, and more recently Bangladesh, have adopted a stern anti-India stance, especially in the last few years. China considers itself as the 'iron brother' and all-weather ally of Islamabad, and openly supported Pakistan with arms, technology, and vocal diplomacy during the recent India-Pakistan conflict.
On the other hand, Bangladesh has moved closer to India's rivals, Pakistan and China, after an interim regime headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus came to the helm in Dhaka following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year.

'Let's stand with Zohran': Bernie Sanders, Muslim members of Congress call out racist attacks against Mamdani

Muslim members of Congress called out the anti-Muslim, racist attacks on Zohran Mamdani. Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and other Muslim American members of Congress extended support for Zohran Mamdani as he came under a vicious attack after emerging as the winner of the Democratic primary of the New York mayor election after Andrew Cuomo conceded the election. Mamdani has been called 'little Muhammad', 'snake oil salesman' as the Republicans called for his deportation. Apart from the Muslim American members of Congress, Bernie Sanders issued a statement of support for Mamdani. "The vile, anti-Muslim, and racist smears from our colleagues on both sides of the aisle attacking Zohran Mamdani cannot be met with silence," the statement issued by Tlaib, Omar, Andre Carson and Lateefah Simon read. "These hateful, Islamophobic, and racist tropes have become so entrenched and normalized in our politics. We know these attacks all too well. At a time of increased violence against elected officials, we cannot allow the attacks on Zohran Mamdani to continue. They directly contribute to the ongoing dehumanization and violence against Muslim Americans. We unequivocally reject the normalization of anti-Muslim hate and fearmongering and call on elected leaders across our country to speak out," the statement read. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Bernie Sanders said the establishment went into panic after Mandani won. "Billionaires are raising money against him; Trump is ranting; Islamophobes are on the loose. They know what we know: Candidates who stand boldly with the working class can win not only in NYC, but anywhere. Let's stand with Zohran," Bernie Sanders said. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon threatened to investigate Zohran Mamdani over his proposal to tax 'whiter neighborhoods' in NYC if he becomes the mayor. 'Racial discrimination is illegal in the United States – period. Full stop! The illegal discriminatory scheme described by Mamdani would violate federal constitutional and statutory norms, and might even violate New York law," Dhillon said on the Benny Johnson show. NYC elites hatch 'Stop Mamdani' plan New York City business owners met with incumbent mayor Eric Adams to hatch a plot to stop Mamdani's rise. The plan was around Adams becoming an independent mayor candidate and not a Democrat. Several business owners expressed concern about Mamdani's policy platform, especially his tax policies, and how they could impact their businesses going forward. Whitney Tilson, a former hedge fund manager, told the NYT that Mamdani is a "Trojan Horse" who is 'totally unqualified to be mayor of one of the world's largest, most complex cities. "

'Bangladesh Army Not As Radical As Pakistan's': Experts To Parliamentary Panel On External Affairs

Last Updated: The experts assured the Shashi Tharoor-led standing committee that there was no immediate cause for alarm regarding Bangladesh, especially compared to Pakistan Concerns about the radicalisation of youth in neighbouring countries were discussed during a key meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Dr Shashi Tharoor. The discussion, focused on India-Bangladesh relations, included expert testimonies from former national security adviser Shivshankar Menon, Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), former High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das, and strategic affairs analyst Professor Amitabh Mattoo. The meeting addressed the growing apprehensions over China and Pakistan's increased engagement with Bangladesh. Several committee members expressed concern about the implications of this evolving regional dynamic, given India's already strained ties with both China and Pakistan. However, experts assured the panel that there was no immediate cause for alarm regarding Bangladesh, especially compared to Pakistan. According to the experts, the Pakistani army remains deeply radicalised, unlike the Bangladeshi army, which does not exhibit similar traits. This distinction is a key factor in assessing the strategic outlook of India's eastern neighbour. They also noted that media narratives often exaggerate the closeness between Bangladesh and India's adversaries. BJP MP Kiran Choudhry, also a member of the panel, recalled her father Brigadier Atma Singh Sejwal's contribution during the Bangladesh Liberation War, reiterating India's longstanding friendship with Bangladesh. In response to a question about Sheikh Hasina's presence in India and how it might be perceived in Bangladesh, the experts drew parallels with India's historic record of granting refuge—from the Dalai Lama to various political figures—reinforcing that this aligns with India's humanitarian ethos. Opposition MPs also emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral engagement, particularly because states like West Bengal and Tripura share deep linguistic and cultural ties—and long, porous borders—with Bangladesh. Several members proposed increasing people-to-people exchanges, including media and journalist programmes, to deepen mutual understanding. Chairman Shashi Tharoor described the session as 'an excellent and in-depth discussion", confirming that a detailed report would be submitted to Parliament soon. 'We had first-class experts before the committee today. Members raised many important questions, and we received comprehensive responses," he said. On the politically sensitive issue of illegal migration from Bangladesh—often flagged by BJP leaders across states like West Bengal and Jharkhand—Tharoor noted that the number of such cases has 'significantly declined", based on inputs received by the committee. When asked about the ongoing water-sharing disputes and whether the issue was discussed, especially in light of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's concerns, Tharoor said, 'You'll have to wait for the final report to know more." The last major meeting on India-Bangladesh ties took place in December, when foreign secretary Vikram Misri briefed the committee. He addressed questions on bilateral relations and spoke at length about the reported violence against the Hindu minority community in Bangladesh.
