2025 ACC betting preview, odds: Favorite over/unders, Heisman pick and projections for every team
Now, with more returning production than any other Power 4 team, Clemson enters 2025 as a clear favorite (-110 at BetMGM) to make it nine conference titles in 11 years. Quarterback Cade Klubnik returns for what could be his breakout season, the defense retools under new coordinator Tom Allen and head coach Dabo Swinney — after years of portal resistance — has finally embraced modern roster-building.
But if Clemson slips, the door is wide open.
Miami believes it's finally back. SMU nearly won the league in its ACC debut. Louisville is reloading. Duke has one of the most veteran rosters in the conference. And Florida State? After entering last year ranked No. 10 and finishing 2–10, the Seminoles are a walking drama series. Oh, and Bill Belichick is the head coach at North Carolina.
It's a geographically chaotic league, but one thing's for sure: The ACC isn't lacking storylines. Here are a few futures worth circling as we head toward kickoff.
Miami to win the ACC (+400)
Miami's offseason hasn't been quiet. The Hurricanes lost starting QB Cam Ward to the NFL, but quickly turned the page: enter Carson Beck. The former Georgia starter is calm under pressure, efficient against zone coverage and walks into a much friendlier schedule than anything he faced in the SEC.
With elite protection, above-average perimeter talent and a coaching staff that finally seems aligned, Beck could be the spark Miami's been chasing for two decades. If he plays to his potential, this is the ACC's best shot at dethroning Clemson.
Florida State to win the ACC (31-1)

Last year's 2-10 implosion was a masterclass in mismanagement and locker-room dysfunction, but there's still raw talent in Tallahassee. Former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos brings a dual-threat spark — his decision-making is a roller coaster, but the upside is there.
The early schedule isn't forgiving: Alabama, Miami and a tricky trip to UVA all land before October. But if things somehow click? Florida State could go from embarrassment to ACC dark horse in the blink of an eye.
Wake Forest over 4.5 wins (+105)
Projected wins: 5.71
I usually subscribe to the 'market knows everything' philosophy when a number is this far off, but in this case, I just don't agree with the betting market. Wake Forest brings in a quality coaching staff and pairs it with a roster that has the right pieces in place. The team added talented linemen through the transfer portal to complement an athletic quarterback in Robby Ashford, big-bodied receivers and a solid running-back room. The depth chart is loaded with transfers, but if they jell, this team has the pieces to win games.
Virginia under 6.5 wins (-130)
Projected wins: 5.97
Virginia is feisty. But seven wins? That's asking a lot.
The Cavaliers have made some noise in the portal, and the NIL momentum is real, ranking 14th in the nation in money spent (using $12.7 million to build this year's team). Still, reports out of camp suggest some chemistry issues, and the schedule is unforgiving late: three road games in the final four, including a trip out to Cal. Even with a few early wins, this looks like a 5-6 win team that's more competitive than consistent.
Boston College under 5.5 wins (-128)
Projected Wins: 4.99
The Eagles could start hot — there's a world where they hit the bye week at 3-0. But that Week 4 break comes early, and the back half of the season is a gauntlet: Clemson, Louisville, Notre Dame and SMU. Former FIU QB Grayson James is back after starting five games for Boston College last season. With more film on him, I'm not sure James has the skillset to help this team win six games.
Fewest conference wins: Stanford +250
After making the case for Wake Forest's over on season wins, this conference wins future immediately jumps out as a target. Only two teams in the ACC have their conference win totals set at 1.5: Stanford and Wake Forest.
Wake brings in a new coaching staff and a talented roster but faces a brutal schedule that will likely make them underdogs in every ACC matchup. Still, I project them as less than a touchdown underdog against NC State, Oregon State, Virginia and North Carolina.
Stanford, on the other hand, is starting over with a new staff but inherits a roster with little winning upside. I project them as less than a touchdown 'dog in just two games: Boston College and Cal. With dead heat rules applying here, Stanford is the clear value play in this market.
Heisman bet: Carson Beck, QB, Miami (22-1)
There's a quiet buzz out of Coral Gables. Beck has reportedly mastered the offense quickly and is drawing rave reviews from coaches and teammates alike.
After spending three years grinding through SEC defenses, he now gets the 18th-easiest strength of schedule in the nation — and more time to work through progressions behind a solid offensive line. If Miami wins 10-plus games, Beck will have the numbers — and spotlight — to get to New York.
Season outlook and team projections
The ACC may not have the top-to-bottom depth of the SEC or Big Ten, but it more than makes up for it with volatility. Clemson is the chalk, but Miami has life, FSU is unpredictable and there's always a surprise team lurking. If you're looking for drama, upsets and long-shot futures with life, this is your conference.

The schedule for the 2025-2026 NBA season is starting to take place, as early pieces of the schedule are making their way out. Paige Bueckers out for Wings-Liberty on Friday as she deals with back injury
Paige Bueckers is out for Friday's game between the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty as she deals with tightness in her back. Head coach Chris Koclanes said on Thursday that he expected her to play, even though the No. 1 overall pick skipped practice. She was listed as questionable on the injury report. Dallas' franchise player exited the third quarter of the Wings' 85-76 loss to the Liberty on Tuesday. Post-game, Bueckers told the Associated Press, "I was just dribbling the ball and just felt a tightness come along." "It's day to day. I'm hoping it won't take me out. Just get some treatment, get some rest. I think it's just a pulled muscle. I felt a strain, felt it tighten, so I am just getting it worked out." After receiving treatment, Bueckers returned in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Although the expectations are high for the former UConn star, the Wings have struggled, entering the Liberty rematch with an 8-22 record, 12th in the WNBA standings. Nevertheless, Bueckers has been putting up solid numbers, averaging 18.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. She has scored at least 20 points in Dallas' last four outings despite losing their last three games. Bueckers leads the struggling Wings in points, assists and steals. The Wings are facing a Liberty team that has been performing poorly for their standards in recent weeks. After a 13-6 start to their campaign, the defending WNBA champions went on a four-game skid before stringing wins over the Connecticut Sun and the Wings. The Liberty own a 19-10 record and are second in the WNBA behind the Minnesota Lynx, who have a comfortable 25-5 standing.

Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton is nearing a return to the outfield for the first time in nearly 2 years
NEW YORK (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton is nearing a return to the outfield for the first time in nearly two years, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday. Stanton has had his playing time limited while the Yankees have used slugger Aaron Judge as the designated hitter while working his way back from a flexor tendon strain in his right elbow. Stanton was not in the lineup for the third straight game on Friday as the Yankees opened a three-game series against the AL West-leading Houston Astros. Stanton could be back in the lineup soon. 'Good chance you could see it tomorrow,' Boone said Friday. Stanton has not played the outfield since September 14, 2023, at Boston. He last appeared in the outfield at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 9, 2023, against Milwaukee. Stanton started at DH for 32 games after missing the first 70 games of the season due to inflammation in the tendons of both elbows. His only appearance since Judge returned from his injury came as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning Tuesday, when he grounded into a double play. Stanton spent about 45 minutes Friday during batting practice fielding soft fly balls and grounders from third base coach Luis Rojas. Rojas hit fly balls to Stanton from near first and second base before finishing the session hitting fly balls from near the first base side of mound. 'He's always been a quality outfielder," Boone said. "Some range is going to be limited obviously, but I do feel like he'll make the plays that need to be made, Stanton was joined in the outfield by Judge, who began a throwing program Wednesday. Judge made soft throws from about 90 feet along with fielding fly balls and will continue building up before returning to the outfield. Since being acquired from the Marlins in Dec. 2017, Stanton has not played more than 72 games in the field and has played just 71 games as an outfielder since the start of the 2022 season. 'There's always risk when you go play the game,' Boone said. 'We wouldn't put him in a situation if we felt there was big time risk. That said, anything's possible, but I do feel like he's in a good place to do it on a limited basis and that's why we've kind of spent the week, 10 days, kind of ramping it up and seeing how he's doing with it, seeing how feels about it. 'He's usually very blunt and honest about if he feels he can do it or not. It's never risk-free, but I do feel like he should be in a position to handle it on a limited basis.' Stanton is hitting .268 with 10 homers and 28 RBIs in 37 games this season. He hit four homers in nine games during Judge's absence. Stanton has not played a full season since 2018, the first year after the Yankees acquired him from Miami. Before his season debut on June 16, he had missed 364 of 940 games since the beginning of the 2019 season. The 35-year-old appeared in 114 games last season, hitting .233 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs, then had seven homers in 14 postseason games and was voted the MVP of the AL Championship Series. Given a then-record $325 million, 13-year contract by the Marlins, Stanton had 59 homers and 132 RBIs in 2017, winning the NL MVP award. He was traded to the Yankees and had 38 homers and 100 RBIs in his first season in the Bronx.
