SFA chief delivers update on Steve Clarke's Scotland future
Read more:
Maxwell was recently asked by Sky Sports if he expects the upcoming qualification campaign for the World Cup to be Clarke's last as head coach.
"Steve is absolutely desperate to get us to a World Cup," he said.
"We've got a squad that, when fully fit and firing, is very much capable of getting us to a World Cup.
"It's the final piece in the jigsaw for Steve and the players."
Clarke previously admitted that there is a '75 per cent' chance he won't renew his deal following the next World Cup.
Maxwell was quizzed on whether the SFA will offer the boss an extension: "That's a conversation for the time," he answered.
"We've been very clear throughout this that we'll have those discussions when the time is right.
"There's always an element of that [planning ahead for a new head coach] if I'm doing my job properly.
"There's always an eye on who's available because managers come and go for a variety of different reasons.
"There's always an eye on who's available, but the focus at the moment is on Steve and the team and making sure they get to USA, Mexico and Canada next year."
Scotland kick off their World Cup qualification campaign against Denmark in Copenhagen this September.

Red Roses launch national yarn art campaign to inspire a generation ahead of Women's Rugby World Cup 2025
England Rugby stars Abby Dow and Tatyana Heard have today called upon the nation to show its support of the Red Roses as they aim for World Cup glory on home soil this summer. Dow and Heard are leading a creative initiative inviting youngsters to get into rugby union and back the England team by contributing to spectacular Red Rose yarn art takeovers across the country. A sea of knitted and crochet rugby themed artwork is expected to be displayed across community rugby clubs, host cities, and local communities, and Red Roses winger Dow is encouraging the nation to get involved with their local project. 'Whether you are a lifelong rugby fan, a dedicated crafter, or someone who just wants to play a part in something special, we are encouraging fans across England to get creative and show their support this summer,' Dow said. 'Crochet is a mindful hobby that we use as a squad to bond and create meaningful connections. We want fans new and old to connect with our sport through rugby crochet and knitting, while being part of an inspiring national movement. 'We are in a golden age of women's sport and we feel a responsibility to maximise this incredible opportunity to inspire the next generation of female players and fans across the summer.' Inspired by the Red Roses love of crochet as a team bonding activity, the yarn art takeovers form part of the RFU's engagement activities designed to inspire female players and deliver a lasting legacy for Women's Rugby World Cup 2025. Fans wishing to get involved and contribute to displays across their local communities, clubs and cities can download crochet patterns via the England Rugby website. The patterns available are a red rose, bunting and a rugby ball square. Full details of national display points and submission deadlines will be available via the RFU website HERE. Supplied creations will then be stitched together by dedicated teams of volunteers ahead of a national unveiling of Yarn Art in early August.

St Mirren consider swoop for keeper who played for Premiership rivals last season to be their new No1
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ST MIRREN are considering a swoop for Swansea City keeper Andy Fisher. The Buddies were hoping to persuade Middlesborough shot-stopper Zach Hemming to return to Paisley on a permanent deal after two successful loan stints. Now the Saints have had to turn to a list of other potential new number one targets. And SunSport understands Fisher, who spent the second half of last season on loan with relegated St Johnstone, is high on their wishlist. The 27-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers, joined new Rangers boss Russell Martin at Swansea on a four-year deal from MK Dons back in January 2022. With just six months now left on his contract, St Mirren are hoping they can persuade the English goalie, who made 18 appearances in Perth, to make an immediate switch to the Paisley club. The Buddies are also confident they will be able to announce the signing of Richard King in the near future. The Jamaican international has been busy representing his country in crucial World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala and the British Virgin Islands. While the 23-year-old still has three Concacaf Gold Cup group stage matches to tackle later this month, Saints don't foresee any issues with getting international clearance for the highly-rated Cavalier stopper once those games are completed. King will help to fill the gap left by Richard Taylor, who let his contract run down at the end of the season. The 24-year-old defender remains in the hunt for a new club. SunSport revealed earlier this week that the £2million Nordsjaelland attacker was on Brendan Rodgers' wishlist. The Hoops have now made a move but face some stiff competition in the race for the 23-year-old's signature from clubs in the Bundesliga and MLS. Premier League suffers huge drop in TV viewing figures on both Sky Sports and TNT Sports
THE Premier League suffered a drop in television viewing figures this season, with one key factor believed to be the reason. Sky Sports broadcast 128 games this term, with 52 on TNT Sports. 2 2 The remaining TV fixtures were streamed on Amazon Prime Video in December. Sky experienced a 10 per cent drop in viewing figures during the 2024-25 campaign, while TNT suffered a 17 per cent reduction. The drop comes after two record-breaking seasons, where Manchester City beat Arsenal to the Prem title on both occasions. Sky claims that numbers tracked closely with the 2023-24 season, but there was a drop-off in the final six weeks of the campaign. That has been put down to the lack of jeopardy at both ends of the Premier League table. Liverpool wrapped up the title at the end of April with four games left to play. Meanwhile, Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City were relegated weeks before the end of the campaign. That meant the only things left to play for on the final day of the season were the European spots. Man City Chelsea and Newcastle secured their place in the Champions League on the last day. Meanwhile, Aston Villa took the second Europa League place after Crystal Palace confirmed the first by winning the FA Cup final against City. And Nottingham Forest booked their place in the UEFA Conference League by finishing seventh. From next season, Sky Sports will broadcast at least 215 games live. TNT Sports will continue showing 52 matches, including the Saturday lunchtime slot.
