Attorney: Lady Vols guard Ruby Whitehorn will plead not guilty at preliminary hearing
'She is, in fact, not guilty,' attorney Gregory P. Isaacs said in a statement. 'Our firm's investigation has also revealed that the factual allegations contained in the warrants are not accurate and are contradicted by eyewitness accounts. Ruby Whitehorn looks forward to having this matter resolved in the very near future.'
Whitehorn's preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday was rescheduled for Sept. 5.
The 6-foot guard from Detroit, Michigan, was arrested Aug. 8 after the Knox County Sherriff's Office responded to a call around 4:15 p.m. According to reports, police said Whitehorn got into an altercation outside a woman's residence and kicked in a front door and bedroom door.
Whitehorn reportedly told officers she was getting her property back after the woman took her phone and passport, then locked the door.
Tennessee issued a statement Sunday saying officials were aware of the situation and gathering information.
Whitehorn started 28 of 34 games last season for the Lady Vols and ranked fourth scoring 11.6 points a game shooting 46.3%. She also had four rebounds per game. She started her career at Clemson where she started 62 of the 66 games she played.
She helped Tennessee go 24-10 in coach Kim Caldwell's debut season. The Lady Vols lost to Texas in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Shane Steichen on where Colts' QB battle stands going into 2nd preseason game
Following the Indianapolis Colts' joint practice with the Green Bay Packers, head coach Shane Steichen still isn't ready to put a timeline on when a decision at quarterback will be made. "We'll work through that," Steichen said via "We had today, we got a preseason game (Saturday), we have some practices next week and we'll work through that. I don't have an exact timetable on it, but sooner rather than later would be nice." Steichen added that he wants to see how Saturday plays out and see where things go early next week. Perhaps part of the difficulty here is that from the outside looking in, it doesn't look like either quarterback has seized control of the starting job. Anthony Richardson has certainly improved on his short to intermediate throws, an area that was a priority for him during the offseason. His decision-making has gotten better as well. However, as ESPN's Stephen Holder put it in a recent article of his, Richardson has still been "somewhat boom-or-bust" -- able to generate the big plays but still missing some easy throws he has to make. On the flip side, Daniel Jones has been an efficient passer throughout his career but has struggled to create explosive plays down the field. If Steichen truly does view this quarterback competition as close, my guess would be that Richardson gets the nod, but that still remains to be seen. Deciding who will start Week 1 isn't only about completion rate either. As Steichen has said, he's looking for consistency, and that goes across the board. "I think it all matters, it all counts," Steichen said. "Every rep matters. Every walkthrough matters. Every meeting matters. It all matters. So, everything's being evaluated." Arch Manning doesn't make Manning Award watch list
Arch Manning is the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, but he's not officially on the radar of the award named after his family. Yet. The watch list for the 2025 Manning Award, which recognizes the nation's top quarterback, was released Thursday with 27 different quarterbacks making the cut. Manning, whose family is the namesake of the award, wasn't one of them. Manning entered the Texas program as one of the most hyped recruits in college football history and is taking over the starting job after two seasons of backing up Quinn Ewers. He was the favorite to go first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, until his grandfather Archie said he expected him to stay at Texas for his senior season. There is a reason for Manning not making the Manning Award watch list, though. Every quarterback who made the cut saw significantly more action last year than the 21-year-old, who appeared in 10 games but started only two for Longhorns. The Manning Award's announcement makes clear that additional quarterbacks will be added to the watch list as the season progresses, and you would figure that Manning will be an easy choice if he performs as expected. And if he is one of the frontrunners, we'll see how he does with a voting panel that includes multiple family members. The Manning family might even be in on some kind of joke here, as Archie is directly quote in the release saying they will review the newcomers: "We're looking forward to another exciting year of college football," said Archie Manning. "I'd like to thank the Sugar Bowl for continuing to build the tradition of the Manning Award which now has over 20 years of honoring the top quarterbacks in the country for the entire football season. This year we have another great group on our preseason Watch List; in October, we'll review the transfers and other newcomers and then boost the Watch List with the best from that group."
