Vancouver Canucks 2025–26 Player Preview: Pierre-Olivier Joseph

Welcome to The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site's player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we'll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. Today, we'll look at 2025 free-agency addition Pierre-Olivier Joseph. Joseph's 2024–25 Season Joseph is one of only a few Canucks on this list who did not play with Vancouver in 2024–25. He signed a one-year deal with the Canucks on July 2. Last year, he split time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues. Despite his low numbers last year (three assists in 47 games with both Pittsburgh and St. Louis combined), Joseph is a solid puck-mover who averaged 17:20 minutes played per game with the Penguins. Joseph's 2025–26 Predictions While Vancouver is a new team for Joseph, some of his surroundings will still be familiar. Joseph is one of many former Penguins who have found their way to Vancouver most likely at the request of Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin and President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford (both of whom spent time in Pittsburgh's management group). Joseph and Drew O'Connor started playing with the Penguins at the same time as one another (2020–21), while Marcus Pettersson and Teddy Blueger were also members of Pittsburgh's organization at the same time as Joseph. Joseph's role with the Canucks will most likely be to provide depth on defence. Depending on training camp, he could be the first man in the lineup if injuries hit the blueline, or he could even start the season as part of the main roster. There's also the possibility that he could spend most of his time with the Abbotsford Canucks, which would be a good scenario for the AHL team given the fact that they have seemingly moved on from Akito Hirose (no contract), Cole McWard (New York Islanders), and Christian Wolanin (no contract).
