Ponnam inaugurates BC cell at PJTAU
Chairman of the State BC Commission, G. Niranjan, Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud, and PJTAU Vice Chancellor Professor Aldas Janaiah, Professor Dr. CH. Damodar Raju, who was appointed as the BC Cell Officer-in-Charge, were present.
Ponnam Prabhakar first paid homage to the portraits of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, and Professor Jayashankar. After inaugurating the BC Cell, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated the seminar hall in the academic block attached to Rajendranagar College. Later, he met with students, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff. He addressed them, mentioning that establishing a BC cell in the university is highly commendable. Similarly, he suggested that BC cells should be set up in all departments and educational institutions of the state government. He made it clear that the setting up of BC cells is not against anyone.
He explained that his government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, will fight tirelessly at all levels for the BC reservation. He called on everyone to support this struggle they are waging for a bright future for everyone. He suggested that some people should not block this process for selfish reasons. He stated that this reservation would greatly benefit students and employees. Ponnam Prabhakar urged scientists to strive for new varieties, knowledge, and technology for farmers, adapting to the evolving climatic conditions. He said that agriculture is a priority for his government. The Minister recalled that the entire state cabinet came and released Rythu Bharosa funds at the university. He said that necessary transport will be arranged for farmers and students to go to agricultural colleges and research centers.
He said that the pending issue of student scholarships will be reviewed. The Minister praised PJTAU for offering a dual degree in collaboration with Western Sydney University, considering it a significant advancement. He assured that he would look into the issue of providing a certain percentage of financial assistance to UG and PG students as part of that agreement. Ponnam Prabhakar announced that local legislator T. Prakash Goud would allocate Rs 10 lakh for the infrastructure of the BC Cell.
State BC Commission Chairman G. Niranjan said that it is gratifying to appoint a BC person as the Vice-Chancellor and to set up a BC Cell 60 years after the establishment of the university. He believed that India comprises various communities and castes, and that everyone should collaborate for the nation's development.G. Niranjan said that the establishment of this BC cell will benefit the BC employees and students of the university. Local legislator T. Prakash Goud expressed happiness over the establishment of the BC cell. He commended Vice Chancellor Janaiah for his diligent efforts in advancing the university's development.
Vice Chancellor Aldas Janaiah stated that the current government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, will operate in accordance with constitutional values. He emphasized that the state government will focus on democratic principles, social justice, inclusive development, and welfare as its main priorities. He said that they are working for the welfare of everyone in their university, taking the ideas of the Chief Minister as inspiration.

Sukhbir Badal vows to return land to farmers if SAD wins 2027 polls
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday said that if his party forms the government in Punjab in 2027, it will return all the land acquired by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to farmers, as it did with the land acquired for the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal in 2016. Badal's comments came days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the implementation of the land pooling policy, which aimed at acquiring over 65,000 acres of land across 21 cities and towns for urban and industrial development. In 2016, the SAD-BJP government passed Punjab Assembly Satluj-Yamuna Link Canal Land (Transfer of Property Rights) Bill, 2016 to return 3,928 acres of the land acquired for the project. Addressing a political conference on the occasion of Rakhar Punya (Raksha Bandhan), Badal said, 'We can sacrifice our life but will not allow even one inch of land to be forcibly acquired from the farmers. From September 1, we will launch the 'Jameen Bachao — Punjab Bachao Morcha', an indefinite march from Gurdwara Sri Amb Sahib in Mohali to the new Sheesh Mahal where AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal is residing'. He alleged that AAP was acquiring 65,000 acres of fertile land 'for peanuts' and giving it to 'builders from Delhi' as part of a Rs 30,000-crore deal. He claimed the land registry and change-of-use processes had been stopped, creating problems for farmers. Badal announced that a future SAD government would 'ban outsiders from purchasing land in Punjab' and ensure that '80 per cent of jobs in new companies go to Punjabis.' He also pledged to restore the Atta-Daal and Shagun schemes and increase old-age pensions. Referring to past electoral setbacks, Badal alleged that the AAP and Congress had 'together defamed' the SAD and claimed that the AAP was linked to the 2016 Malerkotla sacrilege incident. He condemned the registration of what he called 'false cases' against the party's senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia. 'Now the police are harassing Akali workers in Majha to implicate him in more cases,' he said. Delhi govt to probe financial irregularities in Chandni Chowk redevelopment project
Synopsis The Delhi government is set to investigate the Chandni Chowk Redevelopment Project due to alleged financial irregularities and significant cost overruns, escalating from Rs 65.6 crore to Rs 145 crore. Officials found deviations from procurement norms, unapproved expenditures exceeding Rs 70 crore, and the diversion of Rs 30 crore without proper financial concurrence. TNN The Delhi government is likely to initiate an inquiry into the Chandni Chowk Redevelopment Project after internal findings pointed out alleged "financial irregularities" and cost overruns, officials said on Friday. The 1.3-kilometre stretch redeveloped, inaugurated in 2021 by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saw its project cost swell from an initial estimate of Rs 65.6 crore to Rs 145 crore. According to documents reviewed by officials, the initial cost for civil and electrical works -- estimated at Rs 27.79 crore -- escalated nearly fourfold to Rs 105.93 crore. "As per established norms, revised sanction must be obtained when project costs exceed approved limits. But PWD continued spending beyond the sanctioned Rs 99.68 crore without obtaining the mandatory revised approval," officials said. To avoid cabinet scrutiny, PWD is alleged to have submitted only an additional preliminary estimate of Rs 40 crore, rather than a revised estimate of Rs 145 crore as required for projects exceeding Rs 100 crore, added. As per the PWD's internal report, "it has also been found that the project was executed through the same contractor without issuing fresh tenders, a direct violation of procurement norms". The report further reveals that over Rs 70 crore -- of the total Rs 145.72 crore spent -- was used for extra items and deviations not part of the original scope. In total, irregularities concerning deviations and unapproved expenditures amounted to more than Rs 370 crore across various components of the project. Another significant violation involved the diversion of Rs 30 crore from the PWD maintenance head to the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) without mandatory concurrence from the finance department. "Then engineer-in-chief directly submitted the file to the minister-in-charge, bypassing both the secretary in charge and the finance department -- a serious breach of rules and regulations," an official said. These lapses point to deep-rooted deficiencies in planning, estimation, and financial project is being described by officials as a case study in fiscal mismanagement. "The Chandni Chowk Redevelopment Project stands as a textbook case of how public money can be mishandled when rules are bent and procedures bypassed. In 2019, under the then Minister-in-Charge, costs spiralled, tenders were ignored, and crores were diverted -- all without mandatory approvals. Delhi deserves better," PWD minister Parvesh Verma said. "Under my watch, PWD will not be a playground for irregularities but a fortress of transparency and accountability, where every paisa serves the people -- not personal interests," Verma added. Responding to the allegations, AAP said in statement, "The people of Delhi know very well that for the last 10 years, vigilance and the ACB were under the BJP's LG, and it was the LG's duty to ensure that corrupt officers were punished. It was the BJP's LG who was appointing officers to various positions. Opening enquiries into old cases only shows the incompetence of their LG."
