In case you've never had the pleasure, tres leches is an ultra-rich, superbly moist cake that's popular throughout many Latin American countries. I grew up enjoying the sweet treat myself, being of Nicaraguan and Mexican descent. Now, folks from all over can enjoy the captivating 'three-milks' cake as Trader Joe's brings back their own take on the spongy sweet treat!
Now, if you're a bit of a tres leches snob like myself, you might be wondering, is this worth trying? And the answer is, well, complicated.

Made with a light sponge cake soaked in evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream, then topped with a layer of whipped cream, the Trader Joe's variation looks promising enough. It's frozen, however, and needs to be thawed to enjoy, which makes me wonder if something might be lost along the way.
Going over the reviews on TikTok makes it even harder to tell just how good (or bad?) this commercialized version of the cake actually is.
TikToker @ruthshantellll, gave it a try recently and said, 'Wow, this is definitely tres leches. I definitely recommend you guys try this!' She gave it a 10/10 and said if you've got a craving and can't find it elsewhere, it's definitely a go-to. But given she said if 'you can't find it anywhere,' it leads me to believe it's not exactly the crowning glory of tres leches.

Meanwhile, Dominican TikToker @gabylacorte25 had harsh words for the frozen dessert, giving it a -5 out of 10.
'That is terrible! There's absolutely no flavor, no milk. Trader Joe's, take these off the shelves,' she said in her review.
User @boujieboxing was also wholly unimpressed, saying it was 'very bland, not very creamy' and that 'its not giving three milks.'
The reviews really do go back and forth like this. @actuallyashly said she's 'definitely had worse tres leches before,' calling it 'pretty good' and giving a B+ or A-. Her one complaint? At $7.99, it felt a bit overpriced.
So maybe it's the sort of thing you'll need to try for yourself. My guess? It's probably a decent-to-good substitute for when those cravings hit, but if you've got the option to try it fresh from a Latin bakery, do yourself a favor and try it there, too.

Rescue Puppy Attends Daycare, Owner Can't Cope With What Happens at Pick Up

When Katie Tang, 27, arrived at the doggy daycare to collect her 6-month-old puppy Aspen, there didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary at first. But when one of the workers said she had something to talk about, Tang feared the worst. Tang, of Queens, New York, told Newsweek that her "heart immediately dropped" and she thought she was about to receive some bad news about Aspen. But after seeing the look on her face, the worker quickly reassured Tang that it was good news, because Aspen, a poodle, Maltese, and Shih Tzu mix, had won the "Dog of the Week" award. Indeed, Tang was directed to the adorable poster on the wall with Aspen's photo on it. Katie Tang, 27, and Aspen winning the award at daycare. Katie Tang, 27, and Aspen winning the award at daycare. @aspenfluffernut / TikTok "When I realized that Aspen was Dog of the Week, I welled up with pride and definitely let out a few tears," Tang said. "Aspen is my special boy, but for someone else to recognize how special he is, was an incredible feeling. "The daycare had a paw competition that day, and Aspen had the fastest and cleanest paw. He was also in general a cuddly boy and good listener, and they wanted to highlight what a good boy he always is." As this was Aspen's first time winning the award, Tang simply had to get a picture of him next to the poster. She shared an adorable video of this moment on the dog's dedicated TikTok account (@aspenfluffernut) and it has delighted internet users. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 395,600 views and more than 116,800 likes on TikTok. The caption layered over the clip jokes, "Is this what being a parent feels like?" Of course, Tang was sure to reward Aspen that evening with a delicious meal of homemade chicken bone broth and salmon skin. She also served up "his favorite" treat for dessert—some refreshing watermelon. Aspen was rescued from Bobbi and the Strays Rescue in Freeport, New York when he was just 8 weeks old. He's settled into his new home wonderfully well, and he's come an awful long way since. Now, he knows 15 tricks and Tang is even working on more with him, including a "sit pretty" command and "stretch." Tang loves sharing Aspen's new life on social media, from going to work with her, or the dreaded bath time. The online response has been incredibly positive, and it even feels like "a little community" for dog lovers to share pictures of their dogs and their accomplishments. Tang told Newsweek: "The reaction to his video has been so heartwarming and has been making me smile every day. To see the internet cheer my little puppy on has made me feel so warm and connected. Reading through the comments and seeing all those amazing pictures has made my day since the post went up, and just really shows that dogs bring out the best in people." Social media users have been quick to praise Aspen for his remarkable achievement, leading to more than 500 comments on the TikTok post so far. One comment reads: "We are SO proud." Another TikTok user wrote: "His little pose. He's proud of himself too." While another person replied: "Congratulations Aspen! Your internet aunties are so proud of you." Woman Sees Feral Cat Give Birth in Her Garage, She Knows What Do to Next

The August 6 clip shared by Savannah (@_savansta_) captioned "the cat distribution system finally got to me," has racked up 385,000 likes and 1.9 million views. It documents the feline's journey from hiding her newborn kittens in a spare tire to living her best life in a cozy home. The montage begins with the fluffy tabby giving birth on a couch in a Savannah's garage, before retreating to the safety of a tire with her tiny litter of two. Filming from a distance, Savannah explained the cat was initially wary and would hiss if approached. "I was scared she would try to scratch or bite me, but she was surprisingly chill," she wrote. @_savansta_ the cat distribution system finally got to me 🥹🥰 edit: thank you guys for all the love! link to amazon wishlist for them in my bio💕 ♬ original sound - savannah Over time, the cat began greeting Savannah at her feet before meals, eventually seeking out affection and head rubs. "She just wanted to be loved," read the text over one clip, as the cat snuggled in before checking on her kittens. Savannah admitted she quickly fell in love with her new shadow. Despite her parents' reluctance to keep the feline, she decided the stray was staying. After a vet visit, the cat and her kittens were welcomed indoors, trading a cold wheel for a soft bed. Now, the trio are thriving and often go viral online. Two screenshots from the viral video showing the cat grooming her kittens who are now much-bigger. We could not verify the details of the case. One user commented, "Imagine how she felt that first night with her babies inside," to which Savannah replied, "I haven't got to imagine — she purred all night long." Viewers speculated about the cat's past, with many suggesting she had once been a house pet. "Someone dumped her. she's not feral at all," said one user and Savannah responded: "I think it's probable that maybe she went into heat and ran away from home, whatever the case I'm glad she found me." A third commenter agreed: "Oh look how content they are - 100% she was loved and indoors at one point," said a third user and Savannah said: "Most likely true. I feel bad for whoever's missing out on her [because] she's the sweetest she's my baby now." According to Alley Cat Allies, a non-profit organization stray cats have often lived indoors before losing or leaving their homes. While they may grow distant from humans over time, with patience and kindness, many — like Savannah's new companion — can find their way back to loving human company. Taylor Swift announces 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl'

NEW YORK — Look what you made her do — Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Swift announced the album on her website shortly after a countdown timer expired at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday. No release date was announced, but her site said vinyl editions of the album would ship before Oct. 13. Fans have long theorized that Swift's 12th album would soon arrive. On Monday, Taylor Nation — an official branch of the pop superstar's marketing team — posted a TikTok slide show of 12 images with the caption 'Thinking about when she said 'See you next era…'' Swift is seen wearing orange in every image. A special limited vinyl edition of the album will be released in 'Portofino orange glitter,' according to a pre-order page on her site. A special cassette edition is also available for pre-order. Sensing a pattern, eagle-eyed fans noticed that 12 minutes earlier, the popular 'New Heights' podcast posted a tease for Wednesday. The show, hosted by Swift's boyfriend and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce alongside his brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, posted an orange image on social media with a mysterious silhouette, many believing to be Swift. The podcast announced early early Tuesday that Swift would would appear on 'New Heights' and a teaser video posted about her appearance showed her pulling the album from a briefcase. The actual album artwork, just as it is on her website, is blurred. 'The Life of a Showgirl' follows last year's 'The Tortured Poets Department,' announced during the 2024 Grammys and released during her record-breaking tour, which raked in over $2.2 billion across two years and five continents, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time. The album is also her first release since Swift regained control over her entire body of work. In May, that pop star said she purchased her catalog of recordings — originally released through Big Machine Records — from their most recent owner, the private equity firm Shamrock Capital. She did not disclose the amount. In recent years, Swift has been rerecording and releasing her first six albums in an attempt to regain control of her music. The project was instigated by Hybe America CEO Scooter Braun's purchase and sale of her early catalog and represents Swift's effort to control her own songs and how they're used. Previous 'Taylor's Version' releases have been more than conventional re-recordings, arriving with new 'from the vault' music, Easter eggs and visuals that deepen understanding of her work. So far, there have been four rerecorded albums, beginning with 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' and 'Red (Taylor's Version)' in 2021. All four have been massive commercial and cultural successes, each one debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Review: In the first of 3 sold-out shows at Soldier Field, Taylor Swift makes the whole place shimmerSwift's last rerecording, '1989 (Taylor's Version),' arrived in October 2023, just four months after the release of 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version).' That was the same year Swift claimed the record for the woman with the most No. 1 albums in history.
