Portion of Cold Hill Road in Granby closed due to crash
GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of Cold Hill Road in Granby is closed after a motor vehicle crash on Monday.
Showers with thunderstorms possible move in Monday evening
The Granby Fire Department posted on social media at approximately 1:39 p.m. that firefighters and EMS crews were called to a crash near 125 Cold Hill Road. The road between West Street and Burnett Street is currently closed due to the crash.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Recent wet weather creates significant impact on the quantity of strawberries at local farms
FEDDING HILLS, Mass. (WWLP) – The recent wet weather has had a significant impact on the quantity of strawberries at local farms this Spring. The strawberry season is in full swing but for some local farms they saw a rough start. Recent excessive rain led to them struggling to keep their strawberry fields dry and free from excess mositure. Kosinski and Pietz Strawberry Farms in Feeding Hills experiencing this firsthand. 'We noticed a lot of smaller ones. Things were starting to rot a little too quickly and we were noticing a lot of green and white berries out there too,' said Devin Pietz, Operator at Kosinski and Pietz Strawberry Farms. While the rain may have stunted some growth of berries in the fields there's still been a huge turnaround in the couple of days with sunlight. 'We're finally got an appropriate amount of sunlight, the strawberries are finally popping. They're looking absolutely phenomenal,' said Peitz. And the field had plenty for people to pick. Peitz says with more people coming into the fields this helps prevent more strawberries from rotting on the vines. And with the lower stock the rain did create it won't be affecting strawberry prices. 'We're always going to make sure we do that by averaging out what it is that it's costing us and making sure that we can give it to everybody in a reasonable amount,' added Peitz. He hopes to see more drier weather to help the remaining strawberries reach their full potential as the busy picking season picks up. 'We got another turn of strawberries that should be coming around in about a week or so. We're not close to finished. We've got at least another week. And after that, the weather. I'll have to tell us a little bit more,' said Pietz. Ideally, he says the perfect combination for strawberry growth is a balance of rain to grow them big and sunshine to grow them sweet. As of right now, the farm still remains open from 7AM to 3PM everyday for picking. And this Fathers Day, the farm says there'll still be enough to pick. Strawberry moon makes appearance in western Massachusetts
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A strawberry moon was seen in the sky throughout western Massachusetts. A full moon peaked around 3:44 a.m. on Wednesday, but it was also advised to check it out on Wednesday evening. The full moon appeared in hues of orange and red. The strawberry moon is the most colorful of the year as it takes a low path across the sky. The full moon's arc across the sky means that moonlight must travel through a greater portion of the Earth's atmosphere, which can give it a colorful tint. Here's where you can pick your own strawberries in Massachusetts The 'strawberry' name comes from the Native American Algonquian tribes, who lived in the northwestern United States, not the color. The Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota tribes also used the name to mark the wild strawberry season in June. This full moon is also unique because it appeared lower due to the Earth being in 'a major lunar standstill.' This impacts the moon's orbit around the Earth, and the last major lunar standstill occurred in 2006. In case you missed this strawberry moon, it might be partially visible on the night of July 12. Palmer to conduct hydrant testing on Randall Street
PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – Palmer town officials shared that crews will be conducting hydrant tests Tuesday evening. Overnight ramp closure on I-91N ramp in Springfield on Tuesday Palmer Water District #1 announced that hydrant testing will take place on Randall Street after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The surrounding areas will be flushed to clear the lines overnight. Residents are being reminded that these activities may cause temporary discoloration in water, and that hot water use should be avoided during hydrant testing. You should not drink water or run laundry while it is discolored. On Wednesday morning, it is recommended that cold water be run for a few minutes in order to clear the lines.
