Retired Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski passed away battling 'job-related cancer'
GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – Retired Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski died Tuesday morning, the department announced. Czerwinski was a firefighter in Pittsfield for 32 years and served as their department's chief for nine of them before retiring in 2019, The Berkshire Eagle reported. He then became the interim chief for the Granby Fire Department during the coronavirus pandemic in November of 2020. He made a lasting impact on the department and all of our members that will not be forgotten,' the Granby Fire Department stated. The Pittsfield Fire Department said Chief Czerwinski passed after battling 'job-related cancer.' 'Those that are familiar with Chief Czerwinski know just how integral he was not only to the City of Pittsfield Fire Department but also to surrounding communities. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers,' the Pittsfield Fire Department stated. During a leadership shake-up involving the Dalton Fire Department, Czerwinski agreed to serve as their acting fire chief while the search for a replacement was conducted in July of 2023. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made at this time. Crews sent to motor vehicle crash at intersection in Granby
GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – The Granby Fire Department has been sent to a motor vehicle crash on Tuesday. Granby fire crews called to electrical panel fire on Harris Street The Granby Fire Department states that crews were sent to the intersection of Amherst Street and Amherst Road for a motor vehicle crash. There is no word on what caused the crash or if there are any injuries. It is being advised by the fire department to use caution if driving in that area on Tuesday. Portion of Cold Hill Road in Granby closed due to crash
GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of Cold Hill Road in Granby is closed after a motor vehicle crash on Monday. Showers with thunderstorms possible move in Monday evening The Granby Fire Department posted on social media at approximately 1:39 p.m. that firefighters and EMS crews were called to a crash near 125 Cold Hill Road. The road between West Street and Burnett Street is currently closed due to the crash. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Granby crews work to control Morgan Street barn fire
GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – Fire crews are in the area of Morgan Street Sunday afternoon working to put out a two-alarm barn fire. Chicopee crews put out garage fire on Granby Road The Granby Fire Department said that crews were called to a fully involved barn fire at 87 Morgan Street, and that a second alarm would be called as mutual aid companies arrive.
