DOHA (WAM)His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday participated in the 49th Extraordinary Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council, held in the State of Qatar.The meeting was attended by foreign ministers of the GCC member states, as well as Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.The council discussed the latest developments following the Iranian attack targeting the State of Qatar.The convening of the meeting reaffirmed the unity of the Gulf states in standing with Qatar, and underscored that the security and stability of Qatar is an integral part of the security and stability of the GCC.His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan strongly condemned and denounced the Iranian attack on Qatari territory, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, and a clear breach of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.He affirmed the UAE's full solidarity with the State of Qatar, praising the country's efficient and professional response to the attack to safeguard the safety of its citizens and residents. He also commended Qatar's commitment to restraint and wise handling of the current situation.Sheikh Abdullah noted that the ministerial meeting reflects the unity of the Gulf ranks and the depth of solidarity among GCC countries in facing the challenges and threats targeting their security and stability.He stressed that the Arab Gulf states stand together to protect their sovereignty and the interests of their peoples, based on their brotherly ties and shared destiny, and that the states will continue their developmental journey with confidence to ensure long-term security, prosperity, and well-being.
He added that adopting dialogue and diplomatic means remains the best approach to resolving regional crises, contributing to the restoration of peace and stability, and safeguarding regional and international security.

Foreign-born women stripped of Kuwaiti citizenship to retain benefits, ministry says
Kuwait's Ministry of Social Affairs said foreign-born women who acquired citizenship through marriage and recently had it revoked will retain access to benefits. The ministry said that the women would be treated 'as Kuwaiti citizens in all benefits and services' if they have 'regularised their status'. This means they must comply with authorities during the citizenship revocation process. 'All social and service-related benefits will continue without any change in line with government directives, to preserve the stability of the women concerned and their families,' it said. The pledge comes amid Kuwait's sweeping year-long review, which has seen almost 50,000 people stripped of their citizenship. The process is led by the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Nationality, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al Sabah, and including other senior ministers. A large proportion of those affected, nearly 29,000, are women who had been naturalised under the country's nationality law through marriage to Kuwaiti men. In some cases, revocation came decades after naturalisation. While the loss of citizenship formally removes eligibility for state benefits, the government has granted a temporary period for this group to adjust their status and maintain access to services during the appeal process. With just more than 1.5 million citizens out of about 4.5 million residents, Kuwaitis are a minority in their own country. Citizenship is highly prized. The status grants access to generous state benefits including health care and education, public-sector employment, subsidised housing and utilities, interest-free marriage loans and monthly food rations. The country holds about seven per cent of the world's proven oil reserves, which underpins a per capita income among the highest in the world, making Kuwaiti nationality an economic advantage. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior's General Department of Residency Affairs has announced the arrest of a foreign national accused of residency permit fraud. Investigations revealed the suspect was officially sponsored by one company but acted as a representative for 19 others and managed nine of them under power of attorney, with 150 workers registered. Several other suspects were also detained for paying thousands of dinars to renew or transfer their residency permits illegally. 'They admitted they did not work for the companies involved and knew the transactions were unlawful,' said the ministry.

'A graveyard for Trump's mercenaries' The agreement reached at the White House between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to secure peace in the South Caucasus has provoked fury among Iranian conservatives, with one saying the region will be turned into a 'graveyard for Trump's mercenaries'. Iranian politicians have hit out at the plan to create the Zangezur corridor – a proposed land link between Azerbaijan and its autonomous exclave, Nakhchivan – with the involvement of US forces. The plan also involves the corridor being developed by American companies and rebranded the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (Tripp). Ali Akbar Velayati, international affairs adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said: 'Is the South Caucasus an unclaimed area that Trump can rent? The Caucasus is one of the most sensitive regions in the world. This passage will not become a corridor owned by Donald Trump, but a graveyard for Trump's mercenaries.' Rice hoarding scandal highlights corruption The discovery of 4,000 tonnes of hoarded rice, worth about $1m, has again fuelled debate in Iran over economic corruption and rent-seeking. The rice was uncovered at a time when prices for some basic goods had been rising in the days following the 12-day war with Israel, and local media had reported shortages of certain items. Former nuclear negotiator rejects US talks Saeed Jalili, the supreme leader's representative on the Supreme National Security Council, has criticised moderators who support resuming nuclear talks with the United States and other western countries, calling President Masoud Pezeshkian's policies ineffective. Jalili, a politician close to Iran's hardliners and a former senior negotiator with the West, pointed to the recent Iran-Israel war as a victory for Iran and said that restarting talks would be a mistake. 'You have defeated that arrogance that used all its power. You have reached a new stage, and then, only a few days later, some of you say let's go back to the same path [of negotiations],' Jalili said. He also attacked moderate groups that claim that talks with the US would remove the threat of war and bring economic benefits. 'You said several trillion dollars of capital would come. But in this recent round of talks, in the middle of the negotiation, you see America and its offspring, with all the shamelessness it has, attacking you,' he said.
