Palestinian President Rejects US-Led Administration in Gaza

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has firmly rejected any plans to establish an American-run administration in the Gaza Strip, stating that such a move is unacceptable to the Palestinian leadership and has been clearly communicated to Washington.
In a televised statement reported by Cairo News Channel, Abbas stressed the importance of halting the ongoing conflict in Gaza, saying, 'The Palestinian people want nothing more than the implementation of international legitimacy.'
The comments come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage the post-conflict governance of Gaza, following months of war and humanitarian crisis in the territory. Abbas reiterated the Palestinian Authority's stance that Gaza is an integral part of the future Palestinian state and must not be subject to foreign administration or unilateral arrangements.
His statement is the latest in a series of firm positions taken by the Palestinian leadership against any proposals that bypass national consensus or disregard international law.

CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Wednesday Egypt wants to work with the Chinese side to elevate relations to broader horizons. This came during his meeting with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun. Abdelatty highlighted that over a decade has passed since the announcement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, which was made by their presidents in December 2014, noting the remarkable development in bilateral relations across various sectors in recent years, foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said. The minister praised China's contribution to infrastructure projects in Egypt and affirmed Egypt's eagerness to attract more Chinese investments and companies. He presented the available investment opportunities in Egypt and the efforts made by the government to support the private sector within an integrated plan for economic development. Minister Abdelatty briefed the Chinese envoy on Egypt's mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, in cooperation with the United States and Qatar, stressing the need for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian people. He applauded China's balanced stance on the Palestinian issue and reiterated the need for the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the right to establish an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital. FM: Israel's Continued Military Operations Will Lead to More Bloodshed
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said continued Israeli military operations will lead to more bloodshed and further worsen the catastrophic humanitarian crisis the Palestinian people are going through. During a phone call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Wednesday 4, June 2025, the foreign minister asserted Egypt's keenness on pressing ahead with advancing ties between the two countries and elevating them to broader horizons. Abdelatty congratulated his Australian counterpart on her second term in office following the recent federal parliamentary elections in Australia. The foreign minister also underlined the positive momentum of the visit of the Governor-General of Australia to Egypt in April 2025. This year marks the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries, Abdelatty said. He also said he is looking forward to holding the next round of political consultations between Egypt and Australia, and beefing up investments and trade exchange between the two countries. Meantime, the foreign minister highlighted massive incentives offered by the Egyptian market, along with Egypt's great interest in luring investments in a number of priority sectors, topped by the field of green hydrogen. Abdelatty also reviewed the latest developments in the region, including the war in Gaza, underlining Egypt's mediation efforts in cooperation with the US and Qatar on this score. Cologne evacuates 20,000 people after three World War II bombs discovered
CNN — The German city of Cologne is moving 20,500 people in its largest evacuation since World War II, after officials discovered three massive, unexploded bombs. The American bombs – two 20-ton weapons and another that weighs 10 tons – were found in a shipyard on Monday, the city said, causing a huge 'danger zone' to be sealed off on Wednesday morning. A hospital, two retirement centers and the city's second largest train station were among the facilities emptied out. Schools, churches, museums and two of the city's cultural landmarks – the Musical Dome theater and the Philharmonic Hall – also fell within the evacuation zone. The discovery of unexploded weapons is a frequent phenomenon in Cologne, which was decimated by Allied bombing during World War II, but no operation of this size has been carried out since the end of the war, the city said. Most of central Cologne was destroyed by Allied bombing raids during World War II.'Everyone involved hopes that the defusing can be completed by Wednesday,' city authorities said in a statement. 'This will only be possible if all those affected leave their homes or workplaces early and stay outside the evacuation area from the outset.' The city told residents to 'stay calm (and) prepare yourselves' for the evacuation, recommending they visit friends or family and avoid workplaces in the sealed-off area. Officials said they 'cannot make any reliable predictions' about how long the operation will take, adding that specialists cannot begin to defuse the bombs until the entire area has been evacuated. 'If you refuse, we will escort you from your home – if necessary by force – along with the police,' the city's statement said. Allied nations conducted 262 air raids of Cologne during World War II, killing approximately 20,000 residents and leaving the city in ruins. Nearly all of the buildings in the Old Town were destroyed, as were 91 of the city's 150 churches. A massive reconstruction effort took place after the war, with the Old Town rebuilt and major landmarks restored. But small evacuations still take place on a regular basis when unexploded ordnances are found. Around 10,000 residents had to leave their homes in October when another American bomb was found, and in December, 3,000 people were asked to evacuate.
