In a televised address following a weekly cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan said: "We are very pleased with the decision by European countries to lift sanctions on Syria, following the game-changing statements by U.S. President Donald Trump." Erdogan emphasized that peace and stability in Syria would serve the interests of all neighbouring countries and regional powers, signalling a shift toward greater diplomatic and economic engagement. Abou El-Enein Foundation Distributes 250,000 Kilos of Eid Meat Nationwide
By Ahmad El-Assasy Quarter-million kilos of Qurbani meat to reach vulnerable families in nationwide charity campaign The Abou El-Enein Foundation for Social and Cultural Development continues its large-scale humanitarian campaign to distribute Eid al-Adha meat across all Egyptian governorates, in partnership with the National Alliance for Civil Development Work. The campaign, which began nearly a month ago, aims to distribute a total of 250,000 kilograms of high-quality meat to low-income and vulnerable families as part of the foundation's ongoing social support efforts. Each day, as festive chants and spiritual celebrations of Eid fill the air, families gather at the foundation's main centres in Giza, Ard El-Lewa, and other governorates across the country to receive their share of 'Eid meat.' All sacrificial animals are carefully selected from premium Egyptian cattle breeds of medium weight. Slaughtering, processing, and packaging are carried out under strict health and quality standards, operating around the clock to ensure meat safety and freshness upon delivery. The campaign is powered by a large network of dedicated volunteers and foundation staff, who have worked tirelessly for months — without breaks or holidays — to prepare for the initiative. Their efforts are directly guided by Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Foundation, alongside Somaya Abou El-Enein, Vice-Chair of the Foundation. Emphasis has been placed on welcoming recipients with dignity, streamlining the distribution process, and ensuring a joyful and respectful atmosphere throughout the campaign. This initiative reflects the foundation's long-standing commitment to supporting underprivileged communities and promoting inclusive development through sustained charitable outreach. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan

UK Inflation Hits 15-Month High Amid Soaring Utility Bills
By Ahmad El-Assasy London, May 21, 2025 – The United Kingdom's annual inflation rate surged to 3.5% in April, marking the highest level in over a year. This unexpected rise, up from 2.6% in March, was primarily driven by significant increases in household utility bills, including energy and water charges. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that this spike exceeded both the Bank of England's forecast of 3.4% and economists' expectations of 3.3%. Key Contributors to the Inflation Surge Energy Prices: The Ofgem energy price cap adjustment led to a 6.4% increase in gas and electricity bills. Water and Sewerage Charges: These rose by 26.1%, the steepest increase since 1988. Council Tax and Vehicle Excise Duty: Both saw notable hikes, adding to the financial strain on households. Airfares: Easter holiday travel contributed to a 27.5% month-on-month increase in airfares, the second-largest on record. Chancellor Rachel Reeves expressed disappointment over the figures, acknowledging the ongoing cost-of-living pressures on working people. She emphasized the government's commitment to alleviating these burdens through measures like raising the minimum wage and freezing fuel duty. However, opposition parties and business leaders criticized recent tax and regulatory decisions, arguing that they have exacerbated inflation. In particular, increases in employer National Insurance contributions and the introduction of new taxes have been cited as factors contributing to rising operational costs for businesses, which are often passed on to consumers. Implications for Monetary Policy The unexpected inflation surge has led investors to reassess expectations for future interest rate cuts by the Bank of England. The likelihood of a rate cut in August has decreased from 60% to 40% following the release of the inflation data. The Bank's Chief Economist, Huw Pill, has cautioned against premature rate reductions, citing persistent wage and price inflation as concerns . Market Response In response to the inflation data, the British pound strengthened, reaching a three-year high against the US dollar. This appreciation reflects investor sentiment that higher inflation may delay further monetary easing. The Bank of England anticipates that inflation will peak at 3.7% between July and September before gradually returning to its 2% target by 2027. However, the current data suggests that inflationary pressures may persist longer than previously expected, potentially impacting monetary policy decisions and household finances in the coming months. As the UK navigates these economic challenges, policymakers and consumers alike will be closely monitoring inflation trends and their broader implications for the economy. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies
