Labourer killed, four injured as platform collapses in NTPC-Sipat

Raipur: A labourer was killed and four injured after a platform collapsed in an accident that occurred at govt-run National Thermal Power Plant's (NTPC) Sipat thermal power plant in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday.
The incident took place during maintenance work in Unit-5 of the 500 MW plant of NTPC, when the air pre-heater platform suddenly collapsed.
The victims were carrying out a repair work when the balance of the platform reportedly gave way, causing the workers to fall from a height, Gopal Satpathi, Station House Officer (SHO), Sipat told reporters.
The deceased worker was identified as Shyam Sahu, 27. The four injured were receiving treatment at hospitals.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident to begin an investigation into the circumstances.
An official from NTPC management told TOI, "The incident took place at Unit-5 of Sipat station, in which five contract workers were injured. The APH structure platform collapsed where workers were doing their work. They were rushed to hospital and condition of three workers is stated to be stable. One worker, Pratap Singh, is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital with all expenses being borne by NTPC Sipat.

Another injured worker, Shyam Kumar, was referred to CIMS Hospital, where he was declared dead by hospital authorities.
"
"All injured are being given proper treatment. Investigation is underway. Detailed information will be shared after the investigation," said the officer.
There was no immediate clarification on the exact timing or cause of incident.
Praveen Ranjan Bharti, Public Relations Officer of NTPC Sipat said in a statement that the incident took place during the overhauling operations when a platform collapsed while contract workers were working on it.
Three of the injured were treated at the Sipat station hospital and discharged after receiving medical care.
In a meeting held in the presence of district administration officials and public representatives, it was decided that the family of the deceased will receive Rs 5 lakh each from both NTPC Sipat and the contractor company as compensation. Additionally, all benefits entitled under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme will be provided.
The deceased worker's wife will also be offered a job under the unskilled or semi-skilled category on a contractual basis. For funeral arrangements, the contractor has given an immediate cash assistance of Rs 50,000 to the bereaved family.
NTPC Sipat has expressed deep condolences over the loss and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the deceased worker's family in every possible way.

1 2 Hyderabad: In a joint operation led by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Langar Houz police, two persons, including a peddler, were arrested in the city. Police seized 15 gm of cocaine from their possession. The peddler, 33-year-old Mohit Sanjay Mehra of Narsingi, and the consumer, 28-year-old Nagaram Jason Raj of Padmarao Nagar, were arrested at Langar Houz on Thursday. The duo were caught in the act when Raj arrived to buy cocaine from Mehra. Along with the cocaine, the police also seized two mobile phones, all worth Rs 3.9 lakh. Mehra, who is from Mumbai, has a BTech in Mechanical Engineering. Police said that he moved to Hyderabad in 2021 to expand his gold business. "After arriving in Hyderabad, he got divorced and started going to nightclubs frequently. He started experimenting with cocaine and soon became a supplier. Hyderabad: A temple priest lost Rs 12.5 crore to fraudsters posing as stock market investment advisors. On the complaint of the victim, Rachakonda cybercrime police registered a case on Wednesday and launched a probe to identify the offenders. The 43-year-old complainant from Meerpet received a WhatsApp invitation on July 20 from an unknown number to join a group titled 1052/UBS Securities. The group's administrator, Adithi Das, instructed members to open accounts on the website and invest in what she claimed were pre-IPO and over-the-counter stocks. On the instructions of the fraudster, between July 22 and 23, the victim transferred Rs 50,000 in two transactions to different bank accounts via the platform. The virtual balance of his account on the fake portal surged to Rs 1.26 crore. When he tried to withdraw the amount, the operators demanded an additional payment of Rs 12 lakh towards tax and processing fees. "After I paid Rs 12 lakh, the fraudsters cut off all communications with me. My access to the portal was also blocked," the victim said.
