Mom of slain Idaho victim Xana Kernodle asks for help attending Bryan Kohberger trial

IDAHO - The mother of one of the four University of Idaho students murdered is now asking for financial help to attend Bryan Kohberger's trial, the man accused of killing her daughter. In November of 2022, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves were stabbed to death.
A friend of Xana's mom, Cara Northington, started a GoFundMe to make sure Cara can make the 400-mile journey from North Idaho where she lives to Boise, where the trial is scheduled to happen this summer.
"She's hurt, and all of these families are hurt," Lori Scott, who started the GoFundMe said.
The trial is expected to last three months.
What they're saying
"Everybody had, like, people raising money for them, and I just noticed that she hadn't asked for anything," Scott said.
"The loss of my beautiful daughter Xana has been the hardest thing I never thought I would have to endure. If you are not able to donate, prayers are even more appreciated. My hope is that truth and justice through God will be accomplished," Xana's mom said in a statement.
"Even though I've lost my child, I can't imagine losing a child in the way that she has even more than me, and I just wanted to make it so she could be there for the trial, because that's important, that she be able to see for herself that justice is being served," Scott said.
She told Fox 13, Xana's mom has been blown away by the support.
"She's just really sweet and appreciative," Scott said. "The people that are donating for this are actually the heroes, they're helping her get there, and it means the world to her. it really means the world to her."
She adds, the ultimate goal is to raise $50,000. Those funds will cover any and all of Cara's expenses as she takes off from work and relocates from North Idaho to Boise during the duration of the trial.
The family of Kaylee Goncalves also has a GoFundMe to help them attend the trial.
Madison Mogen's family also has a GoFundMe to help them attend the trial.
Sunday, May 25th also marked Madison Mogen's birthday. Her loved ones have deemed it 'Maddie May Day.' It's a day dedicated to spreading kindness in her honor.
On Facebook, the Goncalves Family said: "Maddie is the funniest, most genuine, kindhearted, & loving person. Her laughter is so contagious I can still hear it sitting here now. Maddie taught me the power of an open heart & true kindness. Maddie never held back on love & I hope one day I can be more like her. Thank you for everything, Maddie. I love you. I miss you more every day. Happy birthday sister."
What's next
Jury selection is scheduled to begin on July 30th. Kohberger's trial is expected to start on August 11.

The Wenatchee Police Department said in a statement over the weekend that Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia were all supposed to be with their father for a planned visitation over the weekend. 'The visitation was part of a parenting plan, but he has since gone outside the parameters of it which is not normal and cause for the alarm,' police said. The girls were last seen on May 30 and found dead on Monday, June 2, two days after police first launched their public manhunt. Police have said the 32-year-old Decker has former military experience and should be approached carefully, PEOPLE previously reported. 'It is unknown whether Decker is currently armed, but he may pose a significant risk,' police said in a statement in recent days. Police also discovered a wallet on the center console of the vehicle, according to Fox 13. Court documents obtained by the outlet also say that Decker's cell phone activity showed "he drove to and left the same campground a day prior to the kidnapping.' Decker has since been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of kidnapping, police have said. He is also facing custodial interference charges. A GoFundMe page set up for the girls' mother, Whitney Decker, has described the girls' deaths as 'heartbreaking.' "We are heartbroken to share that the girls have since passed ... the pain of this loss is immeasurable," organizer and friend Amy Edwards wrote. 'Distraction scam' targeting elderly residents; La Mirada family out $50,000 worth of valuables
The Brief Allison Kim's 78-year-old mother was distracted by a woman while two others burglarized her home, stealing $50,000 worth of valuables. The L.A. County Sheriff's Department is investigating similar distraction scams targeting seniors across Southern California. The LASD Industry Station is advising the public on safety measures to prevent such burglaries. LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - It happened in a matter of minutes and in broad daylight. Allison Kim says her 78-year-old mother was gardening outside her La Mirada home when a woman, caught on security camera, walked up and began asking questions, keeping her distracted. Meanwhile, two other women quietly slipped through a side gate and into the house. "They were very good. They were very organized," Kim said. "They knew where to go, they knew what to take. They knew how to hide it. They knew what was valuable, what wasn't valuable. They took all the right stuff." Kim says the women made off with high-end purses like Louis Vuitton and Chanel, expensive jewelry, and cash—totaling around $50,000. One of the suspects even concealed the stolen items under her dress to appear pregnant. "It was awful," Kim said. "The violation that you feel…" Investigators say this is part of a larger trend: distraction scams targeting vulnerable seniors. The L.A. County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating several similar burglaries across Southern California. "They normally come between the hours of eleven and three," said a deputy during a recent community meeting. "Usually four or five women. One distracts you out front while the others go around the back." In response, the LASD Industry Station has been holding outreach meetings and posting videos on social media to alert the public. They've also issued these community safety tips: Keep all doors and windows locked at all times. Don't open the door for strangers. Use a doorbell camera when dealing with unknown visitors. Never let unfamiliar people into your home. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately. Allison is now urging others to protect elderly neighbors. "Just look out for your neighbors," she said. "There's a lot of elderly people that don't have anyone checking on them."
