KUALA LUMPUR – A 19-year-old student died after falling from the 39th floor of an apartment building in Sungai Besi last night.
Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidil Bolhassan confirmed the incident, saying that police were alerted about it at 10.53pm.
'Patrol units were dispatched to the scene immediately. The victim, a local from Semenyih, Selangor, was found dead,' he told Sinar Daily.
CCTV footage showed the student running from his rented unit on the 38th floor before heading to the stairwell leading to the 39th floor.
Police later found broken glass and the victim's mobile phone near a shattered window, believed to be where he fell.
The victim landed on the roof of a white Suzuki Swift parked in front of a restaurant directly beneath the apartment block.
'He suffered severe injuries to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) at 11.34pm,' Aidil said.
The body was sent to HCTM's Forensic Unit, with a post-mortem scheduled for 10am today to determine the exact cause of death.
Initial investigations found no signs of foul play.
The victim was described as a quiet individual with no known mental health issues, romantic relationships or personal problems.
A witness dining at the restaurant below recalled the horrifying moment as they heard the sound of glass shattering on the upper floor.
"Everyone panicked and rushed inside. About ten seconds later, there was a loud crash.
'When we looked outside, we saw a body on the roof of a white Swift. It was terrifying,' the witness said.
The case remains under investigation and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
