
Chris Chelios, Rasheed Wallace and Claressa Shields top Michigan Sports Hall of Fame's 2025 class
DETROIT (AP) — Chris Chelios, Rasheed Wallace and Claressa Shields are among the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame's 2025 class of inductees.
The hall of fame announced its 2025 class Friday night. Inductions are scheduled for Dec. 19 in Detroit.
Hockey Hall of Fame member Chelios played defenseman for a decade, helping the Detroit Red Wings win two Stanley Cup Finals. Wallace helped the Detroit Pistons beat the Lakers for the 2004 NBA championship and reach four straight Eastern Conference finals.
Shields became the first American boxer to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016. She also was the first American woman to win the gold medal in boxing and first to win two with a 64-1 record.
Another inductee, Jason Richardson, helped Michigan State win the 2000 national championship.
The class is rounded out by Mark Dantonio, the winningest football coach in Michigan State history; John Lowe, who covered the Tigers from 1986 through 2014 for the Detroit Free Press; and Dave Dombrowski, president and general manager for 14 years with the Tigers.

Nearly 10 Spartans named to East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 preseason watch list
Michigan State football was well represented on this year's preseason East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 list. The annual preseason watch list for the East-West Shrine Bowl was released on Monday, with nearly 10 Spartans being included on the list. The East-West Shrine Bowl is a collegiate all-star game after the season for eligible players that can be drafted, signed after the draft, or attend a rookie mini-camp. From Michigan State, here were the eight players that cracked the preseason watch list: This year's East-West Shrine Bowl will be played on January 27 in Frisco, Texas. Odds are, Michigan State will have at least one attendee in this year's event. Michigan State football opens the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Michigan State football to host 4-star in-state OT Dewey Young next month
Michigan State football will reportedly host one of the top in-state prospects in the 2027 class for an unofficial visit in early September. Dewey Young of Kalamazoo, Mich. will reportedly take an unofficial visit to Michigan State for the Boston College game on September 6, according to a report from Allen Trieu of 247Sports. Young -- who is an offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 class -- also has visits scheduled to Kansas, Penn State and Indiana over the first few weeks of the college football season. Young is a four-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 92.88 in 247Sports composite system. He is ranked as the No. 19 offensive tackle and No. 189 overall prospect in the 2027 class. He is also listed as the No. 3 player from Michigan. Michigan State extended an offer to Young in May, and is one of nearly 15 programs to offer him, according to 247Sports. He also holds offers from Boston College, Colorado, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Miami (OH), Minnesota, Missouri, Purdue, Toledo, West Virginia and Western Michigan.
