IIM Ahmedabad raises CAT cut-offs for PGP 2026-28, tightening shortlisting criteria
The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has increased the minimum CAT percentile requirements for admission to its flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) for the 2026-28 batch.
This revision significantly raises the eligibility bar for candidates seeking to secure a place in one of India's premier management institutes.
According to the updated criteria, General and EWS category candidates must achieve an overall CAT percentile of 95, with a minimum of 85 percentile in each sectional paper — Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Ability (QA).
This marks a substantial increase from the previous overall cut-off of 80 percentile and sectional cut-off of 70 percentile.
Detailed admission criteria and category-wise cut-offs
The revised selection process at IIMA involves shortlisting candidates based on the CAT score, followed by the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The screening through AWT and PI carries a combined weightage of 65% in the final selection, while the remaining 35% is derived from the candidate's academic record and profile-based Application Rating (AR).

Category-wise, the cut-offs vary as follows:
• For General and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates, the minimum CAT percentile requirement is 95 overall with at least 85 in each section. Persons with Disability (PwD) applicants under these categories have relaxed cut-offs of 85 overall and 75 sectional.
• Non-Creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC) candidates must score at least 90 percentile overall and 80 percentile section-wise, with PwD applicants in this category requiring 80 overall and 70 in each section.
• Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates need a minimum of 85 percentile overall and 75 in each section. For PwD SC candidates, the cut-offs are further reduced to 75 overall and 65 section-wise.
• Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates require a minimum of 75 percentile overall and 65 in each section. PwD ST candidates have the lowest cut-offs at 65 overall and 55 sectional percentile.
It is also noted that transgender candidates in the General category will be considered under the NC-OBC category cut-offs.
Composite score for final selection
The final admission offers will be based on a composite score comprising multiple components. The Personal Interview (PI) accounts for 50%, the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) contributes 10%, the CAT score makes up 25%, and the Application Rating (AR) constitutes the remaining 15%.
This multi-stage selection process aims to evaluate candidates on both academic merit and overall suitability for the programme.
CAT 2025 registration and schedule
CAT 2025 will be conducted in computer-based mode across nearly 170 cities in India. The registration process is open and will close on September 13, 2025. The examination itself is scheduled for November 30, 2025.
Prof Karthik Sriram, Chairperson of Admissions (PGP & PGP-FABM), has confirmed the revised cut-offs, stating they are intended to strengthen the pool of candidates invited for interviews.
Candidates aiming for admission to IIMA's PGP and PGP-FABM programmes for the 2026-28 batch are advised to meet the heightened percentile requirements to advance through the selection stages.

PlayStation prices rise as US tariffs bite
Sony on Wednesday said it is bumping up the price of PlayStation 5 video game consoles by $50 in the United States due to a "challenging economic environment." Tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump hike the cost of goods brought into the US, leaving companies like Japan's Sony to decide whether to pass that on to consumers. "Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment," Sony Interactive Entertainment vice president of global marketing Isabelle Tomatis said in a post. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like When the Camera Clicked at the Worst Possible Time Read More Undo After initially being threatened with a 25 percent hike, Japan negotiated a 15 percent tariff with the Trump administration. "As a result, we've made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the US." Live Events The new price for PS5 will be $550, with a "Digital Edition" priced at $500 and a Pro version for $750, according to Tomatis. In May, Sony warned it was considering tweaking prices in the US, estimating that tariffs could wind up costing the company about $680 million in the fiscal year. American companies are feeling the crunch, too. New York-based cosmetics giant Estee Lauder recently estimated the impact of the new tariffs at around $100 million for the 2026 financial year and plans to adjust its prices to offset the additional cost. US snack giant PepsiCo could increase prices of its soft drinks about 10 percent to mitigate effects of US tariffs, particularly those on imported aluminum used to make soda cans, according to trade magazine Beverage Digest. Meanwhile, California-based energy drink maker Monster Beverages is considering raising prices due to a "complex and dynamic customs landscape," according to chief executive Hilton Schlosberg. The Commerce Department this week said the US broadened its steel and aluminum tariffs, impacting hundreds more products that contain both metals such as child seats, tableware and heavy equipment. Since returning to the presidency, Trump has imposed tariffs on almost all US trading partners. Though the impact of Trump's tariffs on consumer prices has been limited so far, economists warn that their full effects are yet to be seen. Some businesses have coped by bringing forward purchases of products they expected will encounter tariffs. Others have passed on additional costs to their consumers, or absorbed a part of the fresh tariff burden.

Russia: Oil supply to go on, 'special system' to deal with sanctions
Photo/ANI NEW DELHI: As external affairs minister S Jaishankar visited Moscow Wednesday for bilateral talks on trade and economic issues, Russian diplomats here defended energy ties with India and expressed confidence that both countries would handle challenges arising out of the US sanctions against India that they described as unjustified and extremely unfortunate. "It is a challenging situation for India. We enjoy trust in our partnership with India and are committed to addressing challenges in our energy ties," said Babushkin, adding Russia has a "special mechanism" to deal with any challenge on the sanction issue. Bloomberg quoted the Russian deputy trade representative here as saying that Moscow sells oil to India at about a 5% discount. Sanctions are hitting those who are imposing them: Babushkin The Russian embassy later said 'regarding oil import prices amid tariffs, a 5% swing is possible subject to negotiation'. The Trump administration has imposed an additional 25% tariff on India to penalise it for oil purchase from Russia. The tariff comes into effect on Aug 27 and despite hopes of a peace agreement emerging from the Putin-Trump Alaska summit, India continues to be targeted by US officials for 'profiteering' from Russian oil. 'Russia is the biggest supplier to India of crude oil and India's demands are growing. Certainly, this is a perfect case of mutual accommodation and complementarity of our economies,' said Babushkin. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Here's what a microbiologist says CNA Read More Undo Last week, US treasury secretary Scott Bessent warned that the Trump administration may increase secondary tariffs on India if it continues to procure Russian crude oil. This week, he accused Indian companies of profiteering from Russian oil trade. 'The sanctions are hitting those who are imposing them. We are confident that India-Russia energy cooperation will continue notwithstanding the external pressure,' Babushkin said, accusing the West of behaving like neo-colonial powers. 'If hypothetically speaking, India refuses to procure Russian oil, it will not lead to mutually beneficial cooperation with the West,' the Russian diplomat said, adding bilateral trade is likely to reach $100 billion by 2030. Asked about American tariffs on Indian goods, he said the Russian market will welcome Indian exports. He also said the role of Brics as a stabilising force will increase amid the ongoing global turbulence. In terms of GDP, the size of the economy of Brics is about USD 77 trillion while it is USD 57 trillion for Group of Seven (G7) nations, he said, arguing that the Brics is emerging as a major economic power.
