Reason why there is no Glastonbury Festival in 2026 revealed

GLASTONBURY is in full swing and festival-goers will want to make the most of this year.
The iconic festival announced it will not be going ahead in 2026, and here's why.

Organisers revealed they will be taking a break next year as the festival takes a fallow year.
This is a planned respite where the event does not take place, allowing the farmland to recover.
In turn, this will allow the natural environment at Worthy Farm to regenerate.
Glastonbury takes a hiatus every five years to avoid causing irreparable damage to the working pastures.
"The fallow year is important because it gives the land a rest, it gives the cows a chance to be out for longer and reclaim their land," co-organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC.
Fallow year
Fallow years are common in agricultural practices, where farmers leave land unplanted to improve soil quality.
This allows the land time to replenish its nutrients, improving it for cattle grazing.
While the festival's last official fallow year took place in 2018, organisers had to cancel two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.
Co-organisers explained that Glastonbury was once again "due a fallow year".
"Sustainability and the need to live in harmony with the land has always been vital to Glastonbury Festival," Emily said.
"And I think it's important because it just gives everybody a little time to just switch off".
The fallow year also offers a break for the local community in the village of Pilton.
Environmental concerns
To further limit harm to the local environment, organisers have implemented a series of initiatives to reduce any waste left on-site.
A "love the farm, leave no trace" pledge has been introduced, which festival-goers are asked to sign up to when purchasing a festival ticket.
As well as this, single-use plastic plates, cups, mugs, and cutlery have also been banned on site.

Tim Davie must consider his position

The BBC says it should never have broadcast the vile rants of Bob Vylan at Glastonbury and should have cut the live stream when he started chanting 'death to the IDF'. So how did it happen? It has emerged that BBC director-general Tim Davie was himself at Glastonbury on Saturday afternoon and whilst ruling that the performance should not subsequently be available on demand, did not pull the livestream from iPlayer. Where were the protocols to ensure anti-Semitic political propaganda was not sent out unexpurgated on the airwaves, courtesy of the long-suffering licence-fee payer? And if such rules existed why were they not enforced by Mr Davie? The incident could not have come as a surprise. Glastonbury attracts all sorts of preening, self-absorbed nonentities who think they have a monopoly of moral and political rectitude. Surely someone at the BBC must have done their due diligence and suspected that an act like Bob Vylan, which revels in controversy, would land them in it. They knew of the risk because an on-screen warning was issued about the 'very strong and discriminatory language'. At the very least, BBC executives should have insisted upon a delay allowing editors to switch coverage to another act in the event of a nauseating stunt of the sort we witnessed on Saturday. The Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told MPs she wanted to know why this act was broadcast live by the BBC and the feed was not cut. 'I want explanations,' she said. Now that we know that Mr Davie was intimately involved in this disastrous episode he must consider his own position.

Pregnant Sophie Habboo and husband Jamie Laing set to star in new Disney+ series exploring their 'no holds barred whirlwind journey' to parenthood

Sophie Habboo and Jamie Laing are set to document their 'no holds barred whirlwind journey' to parenthood in an upcoming Disney+ series. The pregnant TV star, 30, and her presenter husband, 36 - who tied the knot in 2023 - will bringing their journey to becoming parents to screens, after sharing last month that they are expecting their first child. The Made In Chelsea couple - who are known for their infectious energy and no filter truth-telling - will take viewers through the steps of the next chapter in their lives in a 'refreshingly relatable series'. The docuseries will explore everything from Sophie's pregnancy to balancing their busy professional lives, as well as moving into their first family home, navigating support – and unsolicited advice. Fans will be also treated to a closer look of how the IT couple managed to build up their top-charting podcast. Speaking of the upcoming project, Jamie and Sophie said: 'For nearly a decade, we've brought audiences along the highs and lows of our personal and professional lives through TV, radio, social media and our podcasts. 'It's such an honour to now partner with the incredible teams at Disney+ and Dorothy St Pictures to bring our next chapter to viewers across the globe. 'Navigating our lives with a baby on the way has opened up a whole new stage of our relationship – we can't wait to give you a front row seat!' The series was commissioned by Sean Doyle, Executive Director and is produced by Dorothy St Pictures in association with Jampot Productions. Sean, Executive Director of Unscripted at Disney+, said: 'We've seen great success over the past couple of years with our Disney+ Original unscripted series such as 'Finding Michael', 'Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story', 'Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story' and more recently, 'Flintoff'. The happy lovebirds and soon to be parents announced they were expecting their first child together earlier this month - revealing the news with an ultrasound snap. The news comes as Disney+ also announced the reboot of a legendary dating show along with a new reality series set to explore Wayne and Coleen Rooney 's relationship 'like never before'. Blind Date was famously hosted by the late Cilla Black from 1985 to 2003 and now the show will return to screens 'bigger, better, and bolder than ever'. The new ten-part series will start in a secret location and contestants will be faced with the choice between three potential suitors who will be hidden away behind the legendary 'Blind Date' wall. Disney+ promises 'head-turning' twists as the couples spend the summer living together, and production is set to begin later this year. The iconic British game show originally saw a contestant question three potential dates hidden behind a screen – which would then slide back to reveal their chosen match. Though not yet officially confirmed, it was previously reported the new version will take place on a tropical island, just like ITV 's Love Island, hosted by Maya Jama – with contestants battling it out for a dream wedding on golden sands. A TV insider previously told The Sun: 'This sounds like a radical departure from the old Blind Date, one that definitely has hints of Love Island about it. 'But fans will recall a lot of the dates took place in hot, sunny climes abroad, and producers want to recapture some of the steamy fun, and expand upon that. 'Even the wedding element has hints of the old show because the dream was always that the dates on the programme would lead to couples tying the knot.'

Maya Jama hits back at Love Island fix rumours and reveals exactly how much input producers can have

MAYA Jama has hit back at rumours that Love Island is a "fix" after fans claimed that producers are "too involved". The TV presenter, who has hosted nine series' of the ITV2 dating show, insisted that the show is all "real", despite producers "encouraging" Islanders to have certain chats. 3 3 3 Appearing on The Chunkz Show, Maya also admitted she refuses to find out in advance who will be dumped from the villa, saying she only gets the results the same time as the Islanders. Maya said: "I've never said the wrong name, but there are cameras constantly around and they like the dramatic pauses. "There is a lot of me saying something and then it waits. It's funny with the new Islanders, where they're not used to me saying something and then pausing for ages and they're all looking around like 'is she frozen?'. "I feel so awkward for them because they're just standing there in their little outfits." Maya then explained that the producers do not create scenarios but simply "encourages" the Islanders to pull each other for a chat. She continued: "I don't know if it's illegal or what but they can't tell them what to do. "The most they can do is encourage them to have a little chat, but it has to be real because it's reality." Maya added: "I do this technique where I don't let them tell me who's going until I'm stood in front of them in my ear because I don't want to stare at the person or give away. "Literally as I say it, I find out one second before anyone else." It comes after viewers were shocked after axed Islander Remell appeared to suggest it wasn't his decision to dump Poppy. Love Islanders lick and spank each other in sexiest Heart Rate Challenge yet The Islander appeared on Aftersun to discuss his time on the show and managed to spark fix claims with his comments. As he chatted to Poppy, who was also in the audience, he said: 'It wasn't my decision to dump you.' Remell decided to ditch Poppy in favour of Alima after The Sleepover, despite sharing a bed with her and kissing her. Those watching at home were confused by his comment, with one person remarking: 'Remell has just said live on TV 'It wasn't my decision to dump you' so just told us that Love Island is just one big set up!' A second said: 'What did Remmel mean by 'it wasn't my decision to dump you' when speaking to Poppy?' While a third added: 'What does Remmel mean it wasn't his decision to dump Poppy? Producers pushing the agenda? Did he let that slip?' And another added: 'Wait.. did Remell said it wasn't his decision to dump Poppy.' Others however were quick to clarify what he meant - that he didn't know she would go home if she wasn't picked. While other fans accused bosses of "fixing" last week's public dumping, in a bid to get rid of Megan after all the Conor drama.
