Foreign nationals nabbed with suspected stolen vehicle

Two foreign nationals were on Friday arrested in the eManguzi cross-border crime operation, Project Umgodiwemvubu.
The duo, Julian Stephen Antonio (45) and Paschal Ebenezer Mollel (34), believed to be Mozambicans, were caught with a suspected stolen Ford Ranger bakkie on the R22 in Manguzi.

uMkhanyadukde Cluster police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sibusiso Mkhize said the men were charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, as well as fraud and forgery.
'Project Umgodiwemvubu police deployed in uMkhanyakude District to curb cross-border crimes, spotted a suspicious vehicle with two occupants in Manguzi.
'The police stopped and searched the vehicle. During the search and preliminary investigation, police discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Witbank. A suspected fraudulent document in the vehicle was found.
'They appeared before Manguzi Magistrate's Court on Monday and were remanded in custody pending police investigation. They are expected to appear this week for a formal bail application,' said Mkhize.
District commissioner Brigadier Jeros Thango applauded the arrests and further appreciated the commitment of the police in fighting cross-border crimes in uMkhanyakude District.
Thango also praised the successes of the team as 10 vehicles have been recovered since 1 April to date.

SEBOKENG.- The South African railway system in Gauteng has collapsed, leading to the rapid rise in crime such as cable theft and murder, with bodies being discovered along the railway lines and the neglected and vandalised buildings at train stations, almost every other week. One such example is an inquest case that is being investigated by the Sebokeng police after a man's body was found at Houtkop railway line near Boiketlong, in Zone 10 Industrial in Sebokeng on Monday. It is said that on Monday, the police received a complaint that a body of man was spotted on the railway line. 'On arrival, the police found a lifeless body of an African male lying on the railway line and upon further examination by the Emergency Medical Services personnel, the African male had sustained swollen lips and he was declared dead at the scene,' said police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane. The deceased was wearing a black top, blue jeans, and black sneakers. The police to appeal to the public to come forward with any information that may assist with the investigation. SEDIBENG.- The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sedibeng conducted a high-impact, crime-combating operation with the execution of Operation Shanela, focusing on the Sebokeng policing precinct last weekend. The operation was led by the Acting District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Brigadier Mashole Manamela, and supported by various crime-combatting stakeholders. Police spokesperson, Nthabisng Mokhachane, said that the concerted efforts of all participating units yielded significant results, culminating in the arrest of a hundred seventeen (117) suspects for criminal offenses ranging from murder, armed robbery, rape and hijacking amongst other crimes. Prior to the day of the weekend Operation Shanela, detectives from across the Sedibeng District were instrumental in securing ninety-seven mentioned arrests, which included suspects linked to gender-based violence-related cases, Mokhachane said. 'Maintaining a strong focus on visible policing, the operation included intensified deployments to enforce liquor compliance regulations, trace wanted suspects, and execute law enforcement patrols in known hotspots,' she added. A strategically placed roadblock in Moshoeshoe Street Sebokeng, reinforced operational teams deployed across Sedibeng, resulted in the detention of undocumented foreign nationals, who are currently undergoing processing for court proceedings and deportation. Brigadier Manamela gave an overview of the various responsibilities carried out by SAPS during major operations such as Operation Shanela and to assured the community members of police visibility. He also extended his sincere appreciation to all involved stakeholders and SAPS members for their professionalism, and unwavering commitment to restoring safety and upholding the rule of law across Sedibeng District.
