It comes after Brown allegedly assaulted a man at a London nightclub in February 2023.
He was detained by Met Police Detectives just after 2am at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester after flying into the city on a private jet on Wednesday afternoon.
He was held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, Central London, in February 2023.
Brown was charged on Thursday evening and remains in police custody.
A second man has now been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
US national Omolulu Akinlolu, 38, is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added: "The charge relates to an assault, which reportedly took place at a venue in Hanover Square in London, on Sunday, 19 February 2023.
"A man has already appeared in court in connection with the same matter.
"Chris Brown, 36 (05.05.89), also a US national, was charged on Thursday, 15 May with grievous bodily harm with intent.
"He appeared in custody at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday, 16 May.
"He was remanded in custody to appear at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 13 June.
"The charge relates to an assault, which reportedly took place at a venue in Hanover Square in London, on Sunday, 19 February 2023."
The Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, Adele Kelly, said: 'We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
'The alleged incident occurred in London on 19 February 2023.
'He will have his first court appearance on Friday 16 May at Manchester Magistrates' Court.
"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
The two-time Grammy winner was set to kick off his 20-year anniversary tour next month.
This includes two nights at the Co-Op Live stadium in Manchester before performances in Cardiff, London, Birmingham and Glasgow in June.

Ariana Grande 'persuaded' Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo to 'follow her dreams'
Wicked fans have gone wild after the trailer for part two of the musical was released last week, with triple Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo opening up on her friendship with co-star Ariana Grande Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has revealed how Ariana Grande persuaded her to follow her dreams and become a popstar - unlike her first career choice to become a surgeon. Speaking as the trailer for Wicked: For Good is released, giving fans a taste of what to expect in part two of the musical, Cynthia - who plays green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba - will be releasing her second album, I Forgive You on June 27. The triple Oscar nominee, who has won Grammy, Emmy and Tony awards, says of her pal and Wicked co-star Ariana: 'At the very beginning when we were doing rehearsals, that's when I sort of decided that, okay, time to write this album. Coaxed by Ariana because she wouldn't let me get away with it!' Wicked was the box office hit of the winter, surpassing Mamma Mia! and taking over $750 million worldwide - catapulting Cynthia to fame. Singing with Ariana on the chart-topping soundtrack to the film, which shot to number one in the UK album charts, critics praised Cynthia's powerful vocals and emotional acting. Yet the star originally wanted to be a surgeon, not a singer. She says:' I decided I wanted to be a spinal surgeon, randomly. Because I was good at biology and I was starting to get the hang of it. 'I was one of those kids that was good at reading, good at doing all those things and good at class work, but I could also sing. So my left and right brain were sort of like, doing a battle.' But music won the war. 'I started enjoying singing when I was about eleven,' Cynthia tells Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish from Waitrose podcast. 'Music was in my household all the time. My mum would sing along to everything and it would end up being a family sing along. 'My sister and I would sing together while we were doing the dishes. I think I was about fourteen and I was like,' oh, I think I wanna do this. And then I changed my mind randomly when I was about sixteen, because there were no performers in my class.' But when she embarked on a musical career, she received advice from high places - with Oprah Winfrey going out of her way to be helpful. Cynthia says: 'I have had advice from Oprah before, which is really nice. 'Right at the very beginning of my career, I was saying yes to absolutely everything. She was the one that was like, 'You should say no sometimes.' ''It's really good to say no. Sometimes you need to leave space for yourself'. So I took that to heart and began to really be discerning about what I said yes to.' Born to Nigerian parents and growing up in Stockwell, south London, Cynthia has now finished filming for the second Wicked movie - which is out in November - apart from a couple of re-shoots, and would like to star in more films. 'I hope I get the chance to do the things that I'm wishing for - more film, more TV, more music. I hope to get to do a little tour. 'In my head I've been dreaming of doing some of the biggest stages in the world.' Already receiving shining reviews, her new album, I Forgive You, which opens with a cover of No More I Love Yous - a tribute to her hero Annie Lennox - it is a mainly original and deeply personal exploration of romantic relationships. 'The good parts of the relationship, bad parts of a relationship, new relationships, letting go, saying goodbye, and forgiving both parties, yourself and, and the other person,' she says. 'And it just sort of wrote itself.'

Madeleine McCann police 'found something they were looking for' says detective
A detective who was brought in to help find Madeleine McCann, has said he is "convinced" that German police have found important evidence Daniel Krugel, a South African private investigator who aided the McCann family in the search for their daughter Madeleine in 2007, has expressed confidence that German authorities have unearthed "important key evidence". Police and firefighters recently wrapped up three days of searching scrubland and abandoned buildings in Portugal, as part of a £300,000 operation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007. Officers were seen holding pitchforks as they scoured land on the outskirts of the Algarve town of Lagos on Thursday, June 5. Chainsaws, diggers and a ground-penetrating radar were also utilised. Speaking to The Olive Press, Daniel shared his optimism: "I'm so happy they've finally been searching in the right place and looking at their body language. "I'm quite convinced they found something they were looking for. They only looked in three specific areas with 30 people brought in from Germany and it seemed they stopped suddenly early." Even though neither Portuguese nor German police have made an official announcement, there have been reports by local media of the discovery of clothing and animal bones during the recent search efforts. The meticulous search focused on several ruins situated near the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, famously known as the last place Madeleine was seen before her disappearance on May 3, 2007. A source revealed to the publication that no statements would be released for some time as numerous bags of material have been sent to Germany for detailed examination, reports the Express. Gerry McCann employed Mr Krugel in June 2007, whereupon he flew from South Africa and conducted tests using hairs belonging to Madeleine. Mr Krugel recounted: "Over four days and four nights, on eight separate readings, I pointed to the area where detectives have been searching close to Praia da Luz. "They are in the right area. That's what I've said since the beginning, which was in 2007, that the signal was static, wherever she was, she was not moving. "I used that as a centre point and what I explained to the police is to use a centre point and then you make the 360 turn bigger and bigger. "I'm so excited the Germans are at the right spot. I'm very at ease that things will now go to an end. This is all I was waiting for. Justice for Madeleine. That's all I want." Investigators, who came from both Germany and Portugal, congratulated and embraced each other at the conclusion of the searches in Atalaia, which saw samples of potential evidence taken. Those involved carried out a debrief before leaving the area, with a round of applause before a crate of German beer was produced from the base tent. The blustery conditions meant they struggled to dismantle some of their tents. British police officers were not involved in these searches, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
