We are interested in getting Cardiff – Gareth Bale confirms takeover talk
Gareth Bale has confirmed that he is part of a consortium looking to buy a controlling interest in Sky Bet League One club Cardiff.
Bale, who is Wales' all-time leading goalscorer, described the prospect of linking up with his hometown club as 'a dream come true'.
The group involving Bale reportedly made an initial enquiry earlier this month, which was rejected by Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan.
Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere for F1: The Movie, Bale told Sky Sports: 'We are interested in getting Cardiff. It's my home (town) club, it's where I grew up and my uncle used to play for them.
'To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.'
Bale had been linked with Cardiff after leaving Real Madrid in 2022 but decided to end his career with Los Angeles FC.
He was recently linked with a group that failed in a reported bid to take over Plymouth, who like Cardiff were relegated from the Championship last season.
Bale added: 'It (Cardiff) is a club close to my heart. It's where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.
'I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.
'We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.'

Wrexham AFC Championship test excites Arthur Okonkwo
The goalkeeper initially joined Wrexham on a season-long loan from Arsenal in September 2023 before making the move permanent last summer following his release by the Gunners. His two campaigns at The Racecourse have been hugely successful with Okonkwo winning back-to-back promotions with the Reds. Wrexham, who have secured an historic three successive promotions, will play in the second tier next term and it will be the 23-year-old's first experience of playing at that level. But Okonkwo, who kept 19 clean sheets in League One last season on the back of 16 shut-outs in League Two the previous campaign, is relishing the step-up. "I can't wait for next season. It's the next challenge playing in the Championship and I'm sure I'll be ready for it," he said. "We're just going to enjoy it, the same as this season just gone. "The pressure is going to be on and it's going to be challenging, we're just going to take it in our stride. "But last season was challenging, the season in League Two was challenging so it's just the same. "Obviously not the same in terms of the level which is going to increase again but that's football. "You want those challenges, you want to play in the big stadiums and you want to play the big teams. "That's what everyone dreams about and I am sure we are going to enjoy next season." Okonkwo previously had loan spells with Crewe Alexandra in League Two and Austrian side Sturm Graz during the 2022-23 season before starting his journey with Wrexham. The Reds were in League Two having already been crowned National League champions when Okonkwo arrived in north Wales and he's delighted the success story has continued with him in the ranks. "When I came back from Austria and joined Wrexham in League Two, I wanted to go up the leagues," he said. "To be doing that now is unbelievable, it's amazing. "Some of these players have three promotions in a row and I'm just so happy to be on that journey." MORE WREXHAM AFC NEWS Wrexham are back in the second tier for the first time in 43 years where they will come up against the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town. Okonkwo added: "The thing that makes us really happy is that fans are with us on this journey. "They also get to see the big stadiums and watch us play the big teams. "This is what we all wanted, this is what I wanted to do when I joined Wrexham. "I wanted to compete and take the club to the next level and see how far we can take it."

Tuesday's briefing: PSG avoid early Club World Cup exit but Atletico Madrid out
But Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid are packing their bags after a 1-0 win over Botafogo did not prove enough to earn them a place in the last 16. Meanwhile, Brentford appear close to appointing their set-piece coach Keith Andrews as successor to Thomas Frank. M.V.P 👏🏆#FIFACWC — Paris Saint-Germain (@PSG_inside) June 23, 2025 Paris St Germain bounced back from their shock loss to Botafogo to beat Seattle Sounders 2-0 and reach the last 16 of the Club World Cup as Group B winners. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi proved enough for the European champions, who had gone into the game on the brink of a shock early exit from the tournament. Seattle, hosting the game at their own Lumen Stadium, missed a chance to take an early lead through Jesus Ferreira and also pressed late on, but otherwise PSG cruised home. PSG took the lead in the 35th minute when the ball broke to the edge of the box from a corner and Vitinha's shot took a heavy deflection off Kvaratskhelia on its way into the bottom corner. And they sealed their win in the 66th minute moments after Seattle had come close to an equaliser, a swift counter-attack ending in Bradley Barcola squaring the ball for Hakimi to sweep home his side's second. Fulltime in Pasadena. — Atlético de Madrid (@atletienglish) June 23, 2025 Atletico Madrid failed to do enough to progress in the Club World Cup despite claiming a late 1-0 win over Botafogo in Pasadena. Diego Simeone's side had bounced back from a 4-0 thrashing by Paris St Germain in their first Group B game to beat Seattle Sounders – but were still left needing to defeat the Brazilian champions by at least three goals to qualify for the last 16. Instead it was Botafogo who looked more likely to break the deadlock in the early stages with Atletico keeper Jan Oblak saving well to deny Jefferson Savarino and Igor Jesus. Substitute Antoine Griezmann found the net in the 87th minute when he swept home Julian Alvarez's low cross from the left but it was not enough and Botafogo will face the Group A runners-up at the next stage. Keith Andrews has emerged as the leading candidate to take over as Brentford's new head coach, the PA news agency understands. The Bees are continuing their recruitment process to find Thomas Frank's replacement after he left to take over at Premier League rivals Tottenham, and no definitive timescale has been set. Irishman Andrews, 44, joined Brentford last summer and while largely credited with the club's set-piece success, his role at the Gtech Community Stadium is all-encompassing. The former midfielder has built up a strong reputation following coaching roles with Sheffield United, MK Dons and the Republic of Ireland, where he was assistant manager to Stephen Kenny. Following Frank's departure, Brentford are expected to announce a restructure of the coaching set-up ahead of the new Premier League season, which begins at Nottingham Forest on August 16. 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 in the Orlando sun ☀️😎#FIFACWC #TakeItToTheWorld | 🔜 #SLBFCB — FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) June 23, 2025 An intriguing finish is in store in Group C at the Club World Cup, where Benfica can guarantee progression to the next stage with victory over already-qualified Bayern Munich. The Portuguese side rebounded from an opening draw with Boca Juniors by hammering hapless Auckland City 6-0 and yet still stand on the brink of elimination. Defeat against the German giants is likely to let in Boca, who are highly likely to find the net multiple times against the outclassed New Zealanders, leaving the destiny of Group C on a knife-edge.
