Thomas Frank facing major dilemma over Tottenham players' futures including Son Heung-min and £60m Richarlison

Thomas Frank facing major dilemma over Tottenham players' futures including Son Heung-min and £60m Richarlison

DOMINIC SOLANKE will feel ace after hearing the comments of his new boss Thomas Frank.
Frank, snapped playing table-tennis at Tottenham's training ground yesterday, spoke glowingly of the England striker during his first interview.

He served up compliments to other players too — though keen-eared fans also noted those the Dane did NOT mention.
Frank, 51, is only just through the door and will take time assessing his current squad with 2½ weeks until players return for pre-season.
But then he must decide who is in and who is out as he bids to turn Spurs into a smash hit for the new Premier League campaign . . .
GOALKEEPER
FRANK is unlikely to bring in or ship out any of his main stoppers.
There was some talk of AC Milan being interested in Guglielmo Vicario should Mike Maignan leave, but Spurs sources dismissed the prospect of selling the Italian, 28.
The biggest question mark will be whether he sticks with Vicario as his first choice or if Antonin Kinsky, 22, signed from Slavia Prague for £12.5million in January, can convince him a swap is needed.
Long-serving back-up Brandon Austin remains third choice while Alfie Whiteman leaves this month and highly-rated Josh Keeley could go out on loan again after spending last season at Leyton Orient.
DEFENCE
QUESTIONS remain over the future of Cristian Romero, one of those stars not named by Frank.

The Argentine World Cup winner, 27, appeared to be agitating for a move last season, even speaking of his desire to play in LaLiga during a candid interview.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would love to sign him but a proposed £60million price tag could be prohibitive for a player who has two years left on his contract.
Bryan Mbeumo give his reaction to Thomas Frank becoming Tottenham manager

Fans will also demand a quality replacement if Romero goes.
Spurs offered £70m for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in January and the England man would likely be a target again.
One who may benefit either way is Radu Dragusin, who met Frank this week along with the club's other injured players.
The Romanian, 23, damaged knee ligaments in February and never seemed to fit into Ange Postecoglou's style.
But Frank has a history of getting the best out of no-nonsense centre-backs.
Sergio Reguilon is out on a free transfer, leaving Spurs with only three recognised full-backs — if you do not count the versatile Ben Davies. So another is likely to be required.
MIDFIELD
FRANK spoke of trying to get the best out of James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur, so both seem to be part of his plans.
Spurs hope to tie down the Uruguayan to a new contract with only a year left. But if that does not happen an exit would not be ruled out amid interest from Atletico.
Yves Bissouma also has only 12 months remaining and a few weeks ago fans would have expected the Malian, 28, to be sold given how far down the pecking order he fell under Postecoglou.
But he played a pivotal role in the Europa League win over Manchester United and, with Frank often favouring two holding midfielders, his future is harder to call.
Spurs want the Dane to develop their young talent, including teenagers Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.
But another holding midfielder, perhaps with more experience, could be on Frank's shopping list.
ATTACK
'DOMINIC SOLANKE, I'm a big fan of him in terms of his abilities. I'm sure we'll make him score a lot of goals.'
So said Frank of Spurs' £65m striker, who was always going to be central to his approach. But who backs up the England man and plays wide?
Spurs have been open to selling Richarlison, 28, for a while now but, with his injury record and two years left on his deal, they might struggle to get an offer for the Brazilian that they will find acceptable.
There is serious interest in Bryan Mbeumo, 25, who scored 20 Prem goals for Frank's Brentford last term — but Manchester United are also keen.
Mathys Tel, 20, has signed permanently after his spell on loan from Bayern Munich but another speedy wideman may be targeted given how Frank likes his teams to break at pace.
Then there is captain Son Heung-min, who is open to leaving after marking ten years at the club by lifting a trophy.
Son turns 33 next month, is wanted by Saudi clubs, as well as former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce and also has only a year left on his contract.
But his unique commercial value means Spurs will not let him go on the cheap — and almost certainly not until after the club's tour to South Korea at the start of August.

The Germany international is expected to begin his medical on Friday ahad of his £116million move. It marks a quick start to the transfer window by Arne Slot's side who have seen the addition of Jeremie Frimpong. The Reds have already said goodbye to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher to Real Madrid and Brentford respectively. ‌ And there is more to come as the Premier League champions move to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth to strengthen their options at full-back. A new forward could be on the agenda too with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike of interest. ‌ There could be more exits too. Andy Robertson, Jarell Quansah and Federico Chiesa all have uncertain futures at Anfield. Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours. Liverpool enter talks Liverpool are ready to rival Chelsea for Malick Fofana, as Lyon demand £43m for his exit. Fofana, 20, is said to favour a move to Merseyside. According to L'Equipe, Chelsea have opened talks over a move but Liverpool have made contact with the player's new agents, after he joined Roc Nation. Manchester United are also claimed to have a strong interest in the player. Earlier in the year, Fofana's then agent Bobo Fofana hinted Anfield could lie in the youngster's future. "The choice of heart would be Liverpool," he said earlier this year. ‌ "He has the potential to enter the rotation, and above all, we would like to see him succeed African legends such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and El-hadji Diouf." Darwin approves transfer Darwin Nunez has given his approval on a move to Napoli, according to reports in Italy. Sky Sport Italy claim the Serie A champions Napoli have started talks to sign Nunez and the Uruguay international, 25, has 'already given the ok'. Chiesa message New Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso has revealed Federico Chiesa must find more playing time to feature in his squads going forward. The former AC Milan midfielder and manager was speaking at his unveiling having replaced Luciano Spalletti. ‌ 'In these days, I called 35 players [who did not make the squad], I spoke to everyone,' he said. 'Even Chiesa, whom I told to play consistently. "There are players who have been out but who can lend a hand. The pitch speaks: if you do things well, the doors of the national team are open." Major sporting events and grassroots sport to receive £900 million funding

More than £900 million will be committed to major sporting events and grassroots sport across the UK in a 'transformational investment' over the coming years, the Government has announced. Euro 2028, the European Athletics Championships next year and the men's and women's Tour de France Grand Departs in 2027 are among the key events set to be hosted in the country that will benefit from more than half a billion pounds in funding. At least £400 million will also be invested in new and upgraded grassroots sport facilities nationwide after the funding was outlined in last week's Spending Review, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) said. England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland will be co-hosting Euro 2028, with the showpiece men's football tournament expected to generate up to £2.4 billion in socio-economic value alone, the DCMS said. Other major events scheduled to be held in the UK include the women's Rugby World Cup in England this summer, the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Invictus Games, founded by the Duke of Sussex, in Birmingham in 2027. Earlier this month, more than 100 athletes called on the Prime Minister to support a London bid for the 2029 World Athletics Championships. But the Government is yet to commit to the bid, but has not ruled it our either, with a spokesperson saying it was working with UK Sport to secure a series of major sporting events up until 2035. However, the DCMS confirmed that work was continuing to develop a bid for the UK to host the women's Fifa World Cup in 2035. Sporting bodies and local leaders for grassroots initiatives will work closely with the department to establish what each community needs before further plans are laid out. It said the investment will not only help create jobs and boost regional prosperity, but would also reduce barriers to opportunity and 'bring communities together through shared national moments'. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said: 'Sport tells our national story in a way few other things can, uniting communities, inspiring millions, and showcasing our nation on the global stage. 'This major backing for world-class events will drive economic growth across the country, delivering on our plan for change. 'Coupled with strong investment into grassroots sport, we're creating a complete pathway to allow the next generation of sporting heroes to train and take part in sport in communities across the UK.' The announcement comes after Ms Nandy previously pledged £100 million to upgrade sports facilities across the UK, including new and improved pitches, changing rooms, goalposts and floodlights, back in March. Nick Webborn, chairman of UK Sport, praised the new funding as having 'huge potential to drive economic growth, bring people together and inspire the next generation'. He said: 'We believe that live sport is a fundamental part of this country's social fabric. 'We are really excited to be working with the Government and support their commitment to secure the pipeline of big events beyond 2028 to ensure we can continue to reach, inspire and unite people in every corner of the country.' Stuart Andrew, the Conservative shadow culture secretary, said: 'Funding for major sporting events and grassroots sport is welcome – but the spending review was no boon for British sports. 'Rachel Reeves' tax hikes are forcing schools to sell playing fields and driving up business rates for stadiums. 'At the same time, Labour have scrapped the Opening Schools Facilities fund and the National Citizen Service – depriving young people of sporting opportunities. 'Labour must recognise that their economic mismanagement is dealing a devasting blow to the sports sector.'

Marcus Rashford offered Man Utd exit route as Everton backed to complete deal

After finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has work to do if he wants to set his side up for an improved showing Manchester United's summer rebuild is already well underway thanks to the capture of Matheus Cunha, but there's more to come. The Brazil international is the first of what many expect to be a run of signings as Ruben Amorim looks to streamline his squad. United have confirmed Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen will leave upon the expiry of their contracts, though Tom Heaton is due to extend his stay. Those leaving for nothing are unlikely to be the only players to depart, though. ‌ If Amorim wants to further strengthen his squad without the financial benefit of European football, he may well need to sanction further sales. Alejandro Garnacho is among those who could fetch a tidy sum, though early reports of a Serie A move for Rasmus Hojlund have grown quieter of late. ‌ Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are all expected to be surplus to requirements of ending last season out on loan. Real Betis are hopeful of keeping Antony at the club, though Chelsea's feelings about Sancho were rather different. We've got an update on Rashford for you today, as well as a handful of other lines. Here's Mirror Football 's latest round of updates from around Old Trafford. Newcastle keen on Rashford Newcastle United could be about to offer Marcus Rashford a route out of Old Trafford. The Magpies could also offer the England star a chance of Champions League football, though there's still work to be done. According to The Sun, Newcastle's preference is for a season-long loan while Manchester United would prefer a permanent sale. Rashford's current deal runs until 2028, and he is one of the highest earners in the Premier League. Rashford impressed on loan at Aston Villa last term, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League makes a return unlikely. Barcelona have begun to look elsewhere, despite previous interest, with Nico Williams close to a move at the time of writing. ‌ Everton told to sign Hojlund Former Everton star Pat Nevin has called on the club to raid Manchester United for Rasmus Hojlund. Danish frontman Hojlund struggled in front of goal last season, but Nevin believes a move to Merseyside could be the perfect fit. "There are two or three players that they could think about bringing in from Manchester United but Rasmus Hojlund is the one that sticks out," Nevin told Spin Genie after urging Everton to look at the loan market. "If you look at his style of play, it's a perfect match with how David Moyes likes to play. While his numbers haven't been great this season, Moyes loves hard workers and that's something you can never complain about in regards to Hojlund. ‌ "It's not very often David Moyes has had a 20-30 goals-per-season striker. He's had strikers who run in behind and create space to bring others into play, so, if he's available, Hojlund could be a tempting option for Everton to sign on loan." Chelsea told to ignore Garnacho Chelsea should steer clear of a move for Alejandro Garnacho, according to their former midfielder Emmanuel Petit. Speaking to talkSPORT Bet, Petit argued the Argentine's visible frustration in recent weeks is a concern. ‌ 'Chelsea should steer clear of Alejandro Garnacho, he might be a decent guy but I didn't like his behaviour on Manchester United's tour," Petit said. 'He is showing frustration but has had a lot of chances to show his potential on the pitch, but still we don't know what to expect from him. He gives 100% and shows great commitment, but we haven't seen him really improve as a player. 'The mentality is there on the pitch but he hasn't been improving step by step. Chelsea already have wingers in similar situations with the same frustrations. Signing Garnacho is not a good idea.'
