🚨 Milan stun Bologna with late comeback win as UCL hopes suffer huge blow
Milan dealt Bologna's hopes of Champions League qualification a huge blow with a comeback 2-1 win at the San Siro in a dress rehearsal of the Coppa Italia final.Scorers: Giménez 73', 90+2', Pulisic 79'; Orsolini 49'
Milan's hopes of keeping European qualification alive via the league suffered an early blow when Fikayo Tomori was forced off after just 14 minutes with a freak head injury.
The defender did well to intercept a Bologna cross field ball and head it back to Mike Maignan, but ended up stumbling and falling head first into Benjamín Domínguez. He was taken off for tests, with his chances of making Wednesday's cup final now in jeopardy.
The Rossoneri bounced back to shade the rest of the opening 45, with Christian Pulisic and João Félix having their best efforts, but they could not find the breakthrough.
Just four minutes after the break, Bologna did through top scorer Riccardo Orsolini. Łukasz Skorupski went long from his goal, and Thijs Dallinga's flick found the forward.
From here, it was all about Orsolini, as he cut inside onto his left foot and curled a brilliant strike past Maignan and into the far corner. It was his 15th goal in all competitions of his best season to date for the club.
After his involvement in the opener, Skorupski kept his side ahead with a fine save from Théo Hernandez as Milan looked for a way back into the contest.
It would be the final 20 minutes where they did, flipping the game on its head completely. Substitute Santiago Giménez drew them level in the 73rd minute with a very cool finish from inside the box.
Pulisic, who provided the assist for the equaliser, then netted the winner just six minutes later, sending Skorupski the wrong way after the ball fell to him 12 yards out.
Giménez sealed the win in stoppage time to move Milan into eight, just two points behind Bologna, whose hopes of Champions League qualification suffer a major blow.
Wednesday night will show whether Milan's comeback has had a psychological impact when these two sides face off at the Stadio Olimpico.

Milan risk missing out on Bennacer, Theo Hernandez and Chukwueze cash
Milan are facing problems, as Olympique Marseille won't pay the Ismael Bennacer option, while Atletico Madrid offers for Theo Hernandez and Betis for Samuel Chukwueze are too low. The Rossoneri have failed to qualify for any European competition this season after finishing eighth in the Serie A table, which means they will have to tighten their belts a little. Advertisement Though Tijjani Reijnders is on his way to Manchester City, they were still hoping to bring in some fresh revenue with other player sales. Milan had hoped to cash in on players MILAN, ITALY – APRIL 02: Theo Hernandez reacts during the Coppa Italia Semi Final match between AC Milan and FC Internazionale at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on April 02, 2025 in Italy. (Photo by) The first was Bennacer, who had an option to buy for €12m which Olympique Marseille are not prepared to pay. Because the midfielder made only 12 appearances in his six-month loan, argue Marseille are hoping to negotiate another loan experience instead. On top of that, Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio warns that the opening Atletico Madrid offer for Theo Hernandez is only €15m, considerably lower than they were hoping for. It is unlikely to match the €21.1m plus up to €7m in add-ons that the Rossoneri paid to sign him from Villarreal in 2023.

Tottenham approach Brentford over appointing Thomas Frank as head coach
Thomas Frank got Brentford promoted to the Premier League in 2021 and last season led them to 10th with 56 points. Thomas Frank got Brentford promoted to the Premier League in 2021 and last season led them to 10th with 56 points. Photograph: Nick Potts/PA Tottenham have approached Brentford over appointing Thomas Frank as their new head coach. The Dane is the club's No 1 target to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked on Friday, and there is confidence that a deal will be struck in the next 48 hours. Negotiations are due to take place on the cost of recruiting Frank, who has a £10m release clause, and his backroom staff. The 51-year-old wants to join Spurs after almost seven years at Brentford, with c already in place. Advertisement Spurs have moved swiftly after parting company with Postecoglou, who lost his job despite winning the Europa League and ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy last month. The Australian's fate was decided after the chairman, Daniel Levy, looked past the side's European run and focused on a dreadful Premier League campaign. Spurs finished 17th last season after losing 22 games. That has not made the job less attractive to Frank, who will be taking over a team that earned Champions League qualification thanks to their triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao. Frank has established himself as one of the most respected managers in the top flight since leading Brentford to promotion from the Championship in 2021. They have steered clear of relegation battles and finished 10th last season. Frank has operated with a modest budget and has admitted that Brentford cannot hope to hold on to their best players if bigger clubs try to buy them. Bryan Mbeumo is expected to depart for Old Trafford this summer. It remains to be seen how Brentford respond if everything goes smoothly with Spurs and Frank departs. Kieran McKenna has been suggested as a potential replacement for Frank but it is not clear if he wants to leave Ipswich Town.
