HBCU school sparks major buzz with bold talent move
Delaware State football just made its boldest statement yet—and it didn't come on the field.
In a move that's turning heads across the HBCU sports world, Hornets head coach DeSean Jackson has landed James Woods, a Division III All-Conference defensive back from Brevard College. The unorthodox pickup is just the latest sign that Jackson is building something special in Dover—starting with grit, not glamour.

Since taking over at Delaware State, Jackson has thrown out the conventional recruiting playbook. Instead of chasing stars, he's chasing heart. 'We want guys who've been overlooked, who play with a chip,' Jackson said at his spring press conference. Woods fits that mold perfectly. Despite playing in the non-scholarship USA South Conference, the 6-foot, 180-pound DB posted four interceptions and two touchdowns in just seven games last season—numbers that earned him a national nod from D3Football.com.

Woods' transfer is no ordinary step up. Only a handful of Division III athletes make the jump directly to the FCS each year, and even fewer to high-profile HBCU programs. In 26 career games, Woods totaled 112 tackles, five interceptions, three forced fumbles, and three touchdowns—production that rivals some FBS prospects. His 60-yard pick-six last season wasn't just highlight-worthy—it was a statement.
Jackson's roster now includes JUCO transfers, under-the-radar high schoolers, and small-college standouts. Woods is emblematic of this approach—bringing hunger, instinct, and a chip on his shoulder. Delaware State finished 1–10 last season, but with Jackson's new wave of talent, expectations are changing fast. This isn't just a rebuild—it's a reinvention.

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local high school robotics team is proving that small rural schools can compete amongst some of the very best youth innovators in the world. Harpursville High School's acclaimed robotics team, the 'Robo-Hornets,' recently returned home from the VEX Robotics World Championship in Texas. 885 teams from all over the world competed in the three-day tournament. The Robo-Hornets made it to the Final 16, ultimately losing in the elimination round. The team qualified for the competition after winning the state title earlier this year. Kalen Kulas is a freshman at Harpursville High School. This is his first year on the robotics team. He said competing in the world championship was nerve-wracking but also very exciting. 'It was really surprising. At states, I didn't expect to make it to worlds. I was more than happy making it to States. I had a great time there, and right at the end, I figured out I'd be able to go because I won the Excellence Award, and that was crazy,' said Kulas. This is the fourth year the Robo-Hornets have qualified for the world championships. Advisor and Coach Bruce Salisbury has been working with the team for ten years. He says he says he is so proud of the students' hard work and dedication that it makes him emotional. He says the kids and their success always come first. 'They constantly work, just their devotion to doing the best that they can. One person at worlds made the announcement that 'You guys are here because we know you give up your weekends, your holidays. The advisors are there late in the hours.' And everybody looked at me and said, 'Yes, that's describing me,' because the kids come first,' said Salisbury. The Robo-Hornets' record this year was 7-3. Shaquille O'Neal Didn't Hesitate When Naming the NBA's Best Player of All Time
Shaquille O'Neal Didn't Hesitate When Naming the NBA's Best Player of All Time originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Before he was an analyst for TNT's "Inside the NBA," Shaquille O'Neal was lighting it up on the court. Advertisement During his 19-year career, O'Neal won four NBA championships, including a three-peat with the Los Angeles Lakers. But his stellar resume doesn't end there, adding an MVP, 15 All-Star and 14 All-NBA selections. Yet not many fans believe O'Neal is in consideration for the NBA's best player of all time. That conversation usually is between Lakers star LeBron James and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. In his 22 years, LeBron is top ten in nearly every statistical category, including the record for most career points. He was able to win four NBA championships with the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers, along with four NBA MVPs. NBA analyst and former player Shaquille O'Neal. Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images Jordan, on the other hand, only played in 15 seasons, yet created arguably the greatest dynasty in league history. In the '90s, Jordan helped the Bulls pull off two separate three-peats, ending his championship count at six. He also beats out LeBron in MVP awards with five. Advertisement But O'Neal seems to think one of these players is better. On Tuesday, he sat down with Netflix Sports and named his top 10 players of all time, ranking Jordan as No. 1. "And number one, the greatest player of all time is Michael Jordan," O'Neal said. Despite the aforementioned GOAT debate, O'Neal seems to think it isn't close. In fact, he has LeBron ranked as the No. 3 best player of all time, with Kobe Bryant at No. 2. O'Neal knows a thing or two about facing both Jordan and LeBron. He went 5–6 against Jordan and 11–6 against LeBron, even playing alongside LeBron during his time with the Cavaliers. Charles Barkley Predicts Winner of Pacers-Thunder NBA Finals
Charles Barkley Predicts Winner of Pacers-Thunder NBA Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NBA Finals are set to begin Thursday night between the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Thunder are heavy favorites at minus-650. Advertisement Ahead of the series, NBA legend Charles Barkley—who recently wrapped up an historic run with TNT alongside his "Inside the NBA" crew Shaquille O'Neal, Ernie Johnson, and Kenny Smith (all moving to ESPN next year)—shared his thoughts during an appearance on Sirius XM's NBA Radio Interviews on Monday. Barkley remains very confident that the Thunder are destined to be champions, highlighting their defense as one of the best he's ever seen. "I think it's an all-time defensive team. In my opinion, I think they're the best defensive team—I'd put them up there with the Bulls, the Bad Boy Pistons," Barkley said. "You've got to give Sam Presti some credit. He went out and got Caruso and Hartenstein... and now they've got a really, really good team. You've got to give them their flowers, I think they will finish this thing off. But if they win this thing... you gotta say man, they're pretty special." 11-time NBA All-Star and "Inside the NBA" host Charles Terada-Imagn Images Barkley has been backing the Thunder since the start of the playoffs, and they've given him no reason to jump off that train that's been rolling all season long. Advertisement However, these were his first comments on the specific matchup following the Pacers' victory over the New York Knicks over the weekend, and now that the showdown is set, he hasn't wavered one bit. Oklahoma City finished the regular season with a league-best 68-14 overall record, and while the Denver Nuggets gave them a scare and pushed them to seven games in the second round, they won Game 7 by 32 points. They swept their first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies and just got done beating the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. If they can defeat the Pacers, it would mark the Thunder's first NBA championship since relocating from Seattle—where they were formerly known as the SuperSonics—to Oklahoma City in 2008.
