Retrofitted scooters distributed to 161 differently abled persons at Rajapalayam

A total of 161 differently abled persons got retrofitted scooters worth ₹1.71 crore here on Tuesday.
Virudhunagar Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan, Tenkasi MP Rani Srikumar and Rajapalayam MLA S. Thangapandian distributed the two-wheelers to the beneficiaries.
The Collector said the retrofitted two-wheelers would give mobility freedom to the differently abled persons who had to go to various places for their work. Along with the funds given by the State government, the district administration had mobilised funds from the MP Local Area Development Fund and also through Corporate Social Responsibility funds of private establishments for distributing the two-wheelers to all those who applied for them.
Virudhunagar district had distributed the highest number of two-wheelers to the differently abled people, he said.
District Differently Abled Welfare Officer Srinivasan was present.

Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshanapur has said that a drinking water project will be implemented in seven towns in Yadgir district in five phases under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 Project. He was addressing a review meeting here on Tuesday to discuss the drinking water situation in the district. Mr. Darshanapur said that Hunsagi, Kakkera, Shahapur, Bheemarayanagudi, Yadgir, Gurmitkal and another town have been selected for implementing the drinking water project AMRUT 2.0 and a grant of ₹340.92 crore has been allocated. The proposed work will be completed in the next two years. 'The said grant has been released with a 50% share from the Union government, a 40% share from the State government and the remaining 10% share from urban local bodies,' he added. The Minister said that officers of the departments concerned should take all precautions and ensure that potable drinking water is supplied to rural areas through tankers and pipelines. 'Officers will be held responsible if there are any complaints about water scarcity and also against the supply of contaminated water,' he added. The State government has released a total of ₹50.96 crore for drinking water projects that have to be implemented in Yadgir, Shahapur, Shorapur, Gurmitkal, Kembhavi, Kakkera and Hunsagi. Shorapur city is now getting drinking water round the clock after the second phase of the drinking water project was completed on March 18, 2023. A scheme to provide drinking water to Shahapur city from Sannati Bridge-cum-Barrage is expected to be completed on June 30, 2025, Mr. Darshanapur said. MLAs Channareddy Patil Tunnur, Sharanagouda Kandkur and Raja Venugopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Lavish Ordia, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sharanabasappa Koteppagol, Municipal Commissioner Umesh Chavan and district-level officers were present.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh has emerged as the national leader in the 'State of India's Environment 2025' rankings, scoring an impressive 89.09 out of 100, far ahead of all other states and Union Territories (UT) across the country. The annual report, compiled by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in collaboration with Down To Earth magazine, assesses the performance of states and UTs across critical environmental and sustainable development indicators such as forest and biodiversity, climate, waste management, water resources, etc. Chandigarh's exemplary performance reflects its commitment to sustainability and smart urban planning. The UT's high score is driven by significant achievements, including robust waste segregation and management systems; efficient urban mobility initiatives, including electric vehicle adoption and public transport upgrades; green cover expansion and biodiversity conservation, water conservation and sanitation, clean energy transition, with increasing reliance on solar power and green buildings. Gadwal: District Collector B.M. Santhosh emphasized that differently-abled individuals should fully utilize the welfare schemes provided by the Central and State Governments. He stated that inclusive development and empowerment of every individual with disabilities is a key priority of the government. On Friday, a distribution event was held at the IDOC meeting hall under the aegis of the Department of Women, Child, Senior Citizens, and Differently-Abled Welfare, in collaboration with the Central Government. As part of the initiative, 114 high-tech assistive devices worth ₹21.27 lakhs were distributed to 93 eligible beneficiaries from the district through the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO). The devices were handed over by Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy and District Collector Santhosh. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the government is always ready to listen to and address the issues faced by differently-abled citizens. He recalled that a special camp was held on September 28 in Gattu mandal, where eligible beneficiaries were identified, and the required assistive aids were prepared and now provided. The initiative was carried out with the support of ALIMCO, a Government of India enterprise. He also highlighted various ongoing welfare programs for persons with disabilities (PwDs), such as: ₹4,000 monthly pension 4% reservation in government jobs Financial subsidies UDID cards for nationwide access to facilities He urged all differently-abled individuals to avail themselves of these schemes confidently and move forward with self-reliance. The distributed equipment included: 28 standard tricycles 35 battery-operated tricycles 7 wheelchairs 8 walking sticks 4 crutches 16 BTE (Behind-The-Ear) digital hearing aids with zinc-air batteries 12 TLM kits 2 accessible canes (Sugamya Canes) 2 smartphones equipped with screen readers MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, speaking at the event, reiterated the commitment of both the Central and State Governments to the welfare of the differently-abled. He acknowledged ALIMCO's role in supplying the much-needed equipment and assured continued efforts to provide more opportunities and support in the future. The program was attended by Additional Collectors Lakshmi Narayana and Narsinga Rao, District Welfare Officer Sunanda, ALIMCO representative Sunita Das, and several beneficiaries along with their families. This initiative reflects the government's inclusive approach toward social welfare and its commitment to ensuring dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all.
