
Woman dies in fall from 7th floor of Penang mall car park

PETALING JAYA : A 29-year-old woman died after falling from the seventh floor of a shopping mall's multi-storey parking lot in Bayan Lepas, Penang, on Saturday.
Barat Daya police chief Sazalee Adam said the woman was confirmed dead at the scene after sustaining severe injuries from the fall.
He said police were alerted to the incident at 12.47pm by the mall's auxiliary policemen, Sinar Harian reported.
Investigations found that the woman had left her home in Sungai Bakap at 9am and last contacted her family at 12pm, telling them she was going to buy food.
The victim's personal belongings were found in a Honda City parked at the location.
The case has been classified as sudden death. Police are urging witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Two dead, six injured in Lipis accident
KUANTAN: Two people died and six others were injured after the car they were in hit a lorry that was stopped on the road shoulder at Kilometre 37, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) near Kampung Chegar Perah, Lipis early Friday (June 13). Lipis district police chief Superintendent Ismail Man said initial investigations found that the 33-year-old lorry driver and his girlfriend were on their way to Ketereh, Kelantan to deliver furniture, while the car driver, a 45-year-old man with seven passengers, was on his way to Kota Baru, Kelantan to visit family members. "Upon arriving at the scene, the lorry driver had stopped at the roadside to relieve himself. The accident is believed to have occurred when the car driver lost control before his vehicle crashed into the back of the lorry," he said in a statement on Friday. He said that as a result of the 5.30am accident, Roslawati Mat Daud, 50, who is the wife of the driver and the driver's nephew Aqif Azfar Azman, 6, died at the scene. "Aqif Azfar died on the lap of his father, who was in the front passenger seat," he said. Ismail said the car driver and five other passengers were rushed to Kuala Lipis Hospital for further treatment, while the lorry driver and his assistant were unhurt. He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Highway Funds Misuse: MACC Seizes Luxury Items Worth RM16 Mln
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized another RM16 million worth of luxury items linked to the misuse of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in Klang Valley believed to be owned by a concession holder with the title of Tan Sri yesterday. The MACC said the seizure at the individual's residence in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cheras included 84 luxury bags worth about RM3 million, 11 branded watches (about RM1 million), gold bars, coins and statues (about RM3 million), diamonds and jewellery (about RM4 million). 'A luxury casino equipment set estimated to be worth RM150,000 was also seized,' the commission said in a statement, adding that a secret vault that stored weapons and ammunition was discovered but the weapons were not seized as they were registered under the security company the individual owned.

Bus driver in fatal UPSI crash charged with dangerous driving

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The bus driver involved in the accident which killed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students was charged today with causing their deaths by driving dangerously. Amirul Fadhil Zulkifle, 39, pleaded not guilty to the 15 charges read to him before magistrate Firdaus Nor Azlan at the Gerik magistrates' court, reported Berita Harian. He was accused of committing the offences at Km53 of the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, Gerik, at about 1.15am on June 9. Amirul was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction. He was also charged with an additional offence of reckless and dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the same Act. He pleaded not guilty to that charge as well. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and a minimum five-year suspension of his driving licence. In the June 9 incident, the bus, carrying 42 UPSI students, was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to UPSI's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, when it collided with a car at Km53 of the East-West Highway in Gerik. Thirteen students died at the scene, and two more died while receiving treatment at the hospital. The crash also left 33 others injured, including Amirul, his assistant and the four people in the car.
