Saudi Defense Chief Visits Iran In Unprecedented Trip As Israel Talks War
Below is yet another reason why a joint US-Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities would serve to divide the region, sparking broader destabilization and likely putting American troops stationed in the Middle East in harm's way…

In a huge and rare development after being archrivals for many years and decades, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud arrived in Tehran on Thursday, where he was greeted by Major General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of Iran's Armed Forces.
The two top officials are holding a number of meetings to discuss bilateral relations and issues of common interest,' state-run Saudi Press Agency said.
A senior Saudi royal last visited Iran all the way back in 1997 – when King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz made the trip amid hopes for a breakthrough with 'reformist' Iranian leaders at the time.
The Abraham Accords, involving Gulf countries normalizing with Israel, have been on hold since the Gaza war began, and Riyadh and Tehran have over the last couple years been making strides for peace and full normalization with each other. This doesn't bode well for US or Israeli interests, also given the Saudis have of late declared that no country case use their airspace for attacks on Iran.
CNN points out the following irony amid the thaw:
Bagheri is also a military officer in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Crops (IRGC), which is designated as a terrorist organization by Saudi Arabia.
Riyadh severed ties with Tehran in 2016 after Iranian protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in the Iranian capital following the execution of a Shiite cleric in Saudi Arabia. They then spent years fighting a proxy war that has embroiled a number of neighboring countries, especially Yemen.
China has been the big power which has mediated the Iran-Saudi rapprochement, at a moment the US is widely viewed as in retreat in the region.
Last October, Iran and Saudi Arabia took their improving ties a huge step further by conducting an unprecedented joint naval exercise in the Gulf of Oman. The two countries' populations have also been religious rivals for centuries.
Tehran has always been the heart of the Shia world, while the Saudi kingdom leads Sunni Muslims. Sunnis tend to consider Shia to be heretics, and historic, fierce battles have been fought over interpretations of the Quran. More recently, they waged proxy war for Syria, and before that Iraq.

Netanyahu Arming ISIS-Aligned Jihadis In Gaza, Israeli Defense Sources Confirm
At the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the State of Israel is arming an ISIS-aligned Jihadist gang in Gaza, unnamed Israeli defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel on Thursday. While refraining from validating that particular characterization of the weapon recipients, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is 'activating clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas.' Significantly, the prime minister is accused of green-lighting the weapon handovers without securing his cabinet's permission. News of Netanyahu's latest provision of aid to Sunni extremists in the Middle East first came via remarks made by opposition Knesset member and former defense minister Avigdor Lieberman in a Thursday morning interview with Kan Bet public radio. 'The Israeli government is giving weapons to a group of criminals and felons, identified with Islamic State, at the direction of the prime minister…Ultimately, these weapons will be turned against us.' It wouldn't be the first time Netanyahu has opportunistically bolstered Gaza extremists only to have them murderously lash out at Israelis. Indeed, following in the steps of his predecessors, Netanyahu boosted Hamas itself in a calculated effort to ensure Israel had no united, moderate counterparties available to negotiate a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. 'Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,' Netanyahu told a meeting of Likud Party members of parliament in 2019. 'This is part of our strategy — to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank.' In 2016, an earlier Netanyahu government provided medical treatment to a Syrian affiliate of Al Qaeda. At the time, former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy brushed aside an interviewer's astonishment that Israel would aid an enemy of the United States: 'We have a different account with Hezbollah. A totally different account. Al Qaeda, to the best of my recollection, has not attacked Israel.' Netanyahu's latest favorite band of rogues is the Abu Shabab clan, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, who has reportedly been twice-imprisoned in Hamas-run jails for criminal offenses. '[They] are in essence lawless criminals who in recent years wanted to give themselves an ideological angle or spin, so they became Salafi [jihadists] and began identifying with ISIS,' Lieberman said. Varying described as a militia or a criminal gang, the Abu Shabab clan has been widely accused of looting humanitarian aid to the devastated Gaza population. In 2024, Abu Shabab didn't deny the allegations, instead lamely claiming his group tried not to steal supplies meant for children. That entry on Shabab's rap sheet makes Netanyahu's support for the clan rather hypocritical, as he's often condemned Hamas for allegedly stealing aid. 'Hamas is coming at gunpoint and stealing the food,' he said. 'Humanitarian deaths and starvation is, for us, it's a tragedy. For them, it's a strategy.' On the other hand, the Shabab clan meets the only qualification that seems to matter to Netanyahu: An interest in seeing Hamas dislodged from power in Gaza. In late May, Hamas posted a video showing an operation in which its militant blew up a group of armed men that observers concluded to be members of the Shabab clan. Hamas said the targeted group was collaborating directly with the IDF by inspecting buildings in Gaza before Israeli soldiers took them over: Following Lieberman's comments, the prime minister's office issued a statement saying 'Israel is working to defeat Hamas in various ways, on the recommendation of all heads of the security establishment.' On Thursday afternoon, defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel that Netanyahu's government is shipping Kalashnikov rifles to the jihadists. Compounding the controversy, the sources say Netanyahu initiated the weapon transfers without receiving approval from his cabinet. Click here to read more…

Trump orders inquiry into ‘conspiracy' to hide Biden's health decline
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered an investigation into what Republicans claim was a 'conspiracy' to cover up Joe Biden's declining cognitive health during his time in the White House. The move, which was slammed by Biden, is the latest in a long-running campaign by Trump -- with the backing of Republican Party politicians and their cheerleaders in the conservative media -- to discredit his predecessor. But it also comes as a growing chorus of Democrats begin to acknowledge the former president appeared to have been slipping in recent years. Those concerns were thrown into stark relief by a disastrous debate performance against Trump during last year's presidential campaign, in which the then-81-year-old stumbled over his words and repeatedly lost his train of thought. 'In recent months, it has become increasingly apparent that former President Biden's aides abused the power of Presidential signatures through the use of an autopen to conceal Biden's cognitive decline,' a presidential memorandum issued Wednesday reads. 'This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history. 'The American public was purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power, all while Biden's signature was deployed across thousands of documents to effect radical policy shifts.' Biden vehemently denied the allegations. 'Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations,' he said in a statement.

Coinbase CEO Fears Bitcoin Replaces Dollar If US Debt Grows As Elon Musk Calls For Firing Of 215 Republicans
Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, issued a stark warning this week: if U.S. lawmakers don't get the national debt under control, Bitcoin could supplant the dollar as the world's reserve currency. 'If the electorate doesn't hold Congress accountable to reducing the deficit, and start paying down the debt, Bitcoin is going to take over as reserve currency,' Armstrong posted on X. 'I love Bitcoin, but a strong America is also super important for the world. We need to get our finances under control.' His comment was a direct response to a post from World of Statistics showing U.S. national debt figures over time. The numbers paint a dramatic picture: debt has soared from $5.7 trillion in 2000 to $36.9 trillion in 2025, a more than sixfold increase in just 25 years. The tweet sparked widespread debate, drawing reactions from prominent figures across crypto and mainstream culture. YouTube creator MrBeast asked bluntly, 'We're just going to casually build up over $100 trillion in debt in our lifetimes, and people will just continue to be chill with it and loan us money?' Crypto influencer Wendy O weighed in with skepticism: 'Bitcoin will never be a reserve currency because of its volatility. But it will be desired. A stablecoin… yes.' Meanwhile, HODL15Capital echoed Armstrong's concern from a different angle: 'Bitcoin has no top because fiat printing will never end.' Elon Musk retweeted the post and replied with an American flag emoji. Musk appears genuinely frustrated with the current administration after leaving his White House position. He attacked Republican Congressmen who voted in favor of the 'One Big Beautiful Bill,' calling it 'a disgusting abomination' in government spending. Musk also echoed Armstrong's sentiment in another post: 'Interest payments already consume 25% of all government revenue. If the massive deficit spending continues, there will only be money for interest payments and nothing else.' Musk's late-night tirade continued across multiple posts, claiming, 'Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America!' He also called for firing all politicians who supported the bill in next year's midterms, declaring, 'In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.' The statement was made while quote-tweeting a post by Matt Van Swol highlighting GOP overspending, ignoring DOGE cuts, and spending too much time on vacation. All but five Republican congressmen voted 'YES' on the controversial bill, while all 214 Democrats voted 'NO.' The backdrop to this discourse is a troubling fiscal trajectory. According to Congressional Budget Office estimates, the interest on the federal debt alone will approach $1 trillion this year and could double by the mid-2030s. Rising entitlement costs, pandemic-era spending, and bipartisan reluctance to raise taxes or cut popular programs have all contributed to ballooning deficits. The dollar's position as the global reserve currency has long been underpinned by the scale and perceived stability of the U.S. economy and deep and liquid Treasury markets. Replacing that infrastructure with Bitcoin would require seismic shifts in monetary policy, financial regulation, and sovereign behavior. Still, institutional interest in Bitcoin continues to grow. With BTC trading above $100,000 in 2025 and spot ETFs now widely available, the narrative of Bitcoin as 'digital gold' has moved from the fringes into boardrooms. Yet, it remains a relatively volatile asset and lacks the macroeconomic levers, such as interest rates and fiscal control, that underpin fiat systems. Still, Bitcoin volatility is declining, reducing the strength of this criticism. Click here to read more…
