Cyber criminals dupe engineer of Rs 75 lakh in Noida
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) Preeti Yadav, an engineer living in Rajat Vihar Society in Sector 62, Noida, in a complaint lodged at the police station on Wednesday night, alleged that a person named Jaikumar called him and introduced himself as an expert in the stock market on May 2.

Medical professional lured through ‘sex chat' blackmailed; loses Rs 94 lakh
A 35-year-old medical professional from the city was duped of Rs 94 lakh after he fell prey to cyber fraudsters who posed as a woman and contacted him on social media platforms. Later, the fraudsters threatened the doctor that they would share his intimate images on social media platforms and kept demanding money from him. Eventually, the victim approached the police following which an FIR was registered against unidentified persons. The doctor in his complaint said that in February this year, he met a woman who identified herself as Somya Awasthi on a social media platform. The woman said that she was pursuing her MBBS from Chandigarh and her parents were residing in Delhi. He said they exchanged numbers and the woman would say she was feeling lonely. Over a period, she would ask for gifts and he would transfer money to a bank account provided by her. She never showed him the bills for the articles she purchased. He said that eventually they got close and would have 'sex chats'. He said she started sending her nude photographs to him and asked him to share his intimate photographs which he did. Later in May, she said she was coming to Mumbai and he paid for her business class tickets. However later when he checked there was no such flight coming on that day. On May 2, the woman sent him a one view photograph which claimed that some Thailand-based hacker had got access to their photographs and chats demanding 3.10 bitcoin (Rs 2.5 crore approximately) failing which he would make their chats viral. The woman claimed that she had sold off her gold jewellery to pay him. She then said that if he did not make the payment, she would send their intimate clips to his work place and medical association. Fearing this, he took loans from several banks and over a period sent her nearly Rs 94 lakh. When he transferred the money however, the account name mentioned Jasmeen Kaur. He became suspicious and went through her social media profile and checked with the college she claimed to be doing MBBS from. There he found that a person named Somya Aswasthi had done Arts. Realising that he had been defrauded, he approached the cyber police station where an FIR was registered on Friday. An officer said that they have some technical leads and teams have been sent to nab the accused.

4 Members of Gujarat Music Band Killed In Bus-Truck Collision In Madhya Pradesh: Cops
Shivpuri: Four members of a Gujarat-based music band were killed and 11 other persons were injured on Saturday in a collision between a mini bus and a small truck in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. Members of the music band had performed at a programme in Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and were returning to Gujarat when the accident occurred around 6 am on National Highway 46, around 30 km from the Shivpuri district headquarters, Station House Officer (SHO) Arvind Chari told PTI. He said the bus driver lost control of the wheel, leading to the bus veering into the wrong lane and colliding. The deceased included Hardik Dave (37), a singer, Raja Thakur (28), Ankit Thakur (17), and Rajendra Solanki (47), all members of the band, the SHO said. He said the injured persons have been admitted to hospitals. A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the mini bus with 17 people onboard might have dozed off due to fatigue as the troupe was travelling non-stop from Varanasi since 5 pm (Friday), Chari said. The bodies of the four victims have been handed over to their families, who are transporting them to Gujarat. Chari said the condition of the two critically injured persons is stable now. "We are waiting to record the statement of the injured driver after his condition improves and is able to speak," the SHO said.

ED raids across two cities over reopened case against Tamil Nadu minister, DMK says bid to deflect from ‘vote chori'
Officers from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched simultaneous searches on Saturday at the properties of Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I Periyasamy, his family members, and linked premises in Dindigul and Chennai, reviving a years-old disproportionate assets case that had been dismissed but was recently reopened by the Madras High Court. About a dozen ED officials, split into three teams and backed by armed Central Reserve Police Force personnel, arrived at three residential locations in Dindigul — Durairaj Nagar, Vallalar Nagar, and Seelapadi — around 7:30 am. Local DMK cadre quickly gathered near the sites as police tightened security. The searches targeted the minister's home, as well as that of his son and Dindigul East MLA I P Senthil Kumar and his daughter Indra. In Chennai, ED teams conducted searches at Periyasamy's official bungalow on Greenways Road under heavy Central Armed Police Force protection. Officers also visited the MLAs' hostel at the Government Omandurar Estate. Periyasamy, a senior leader of the ruling DMK, his wife Suseela, and sons Senthil Kumar and Prabhu had been acquitted by a Dindigul trial court in a Rs 2.01 crore disproportionate assets case dating back to 2006–2010. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption alleged that the family had amassed assets in excess of their known income during his earlier tenure as minister. The acquittal was overturned in April by Justice P Velmurugan of the Madras High Court, who ordered a fresh trial. The family has appealed in the Supreme Court, with a hearing scheduled for August 18. The DMK responded sharply, framing the raids as politically motivated and timed to distract from what the party called the BJP's own electoral misconduct. 'This is an attempt to divert attention from vote chori (theft),' said DMK organisation secretary R S Bharathi, invoking a phrase used by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to describe alleged fraud. In a formal statement, Bharathi said: 'The BJP stands exposed for indulging in electoral fraud by using the Election Commission. The country is shocked over this. To divert attention from the illegal vote chori, the Enforcement Directorate is conducting searches at premises linked to Periyasamy.' Bharathi said the DMK 'would neither fear the ED nor Modi,' and accused the BJP of weaponising state institutions: 'The BJP was using empowered and autonomous bodies as its election instruments.' While the ED has not disclosed the specific trigger for Saturday's searches, the revival of the disproportionate assets case has heightened political tensions as Periyasamy remains an influential figure in the DMK. The outcome of the Supreme Court hearing next week could determine whether the disproportionate assets case proceeds to trial again.
