
CM, PA deputy speaker discuss political situation, development projects
Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channer paid tribute to the chief minister for ensuring construction and rehabilitation of roads in the province.
He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for establishing a Burn Centre in Bahawalpur. He appreciated the establishment of field hospitals, clinics on wheels, Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic project across Punjab and termed the vision of equal development of every city under the Punjab Development Programme as a game changer.
Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly also paid tribute to the chief minister for launching air ambulance service, establishing field hospitals and steps being taken to eliminate encroachments across Punjab.
On this occasion, in-principle approval was given to establish a children's hospital in Bahawalpur in view of dire needs of the people. It was agreed to construct a children's hospital near the Civil Hospital Bahawalpur. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif sought a plan of launching Bahawalpur Children's Hospital project.
The chief minister while talking on the occasion said, 'Development projects of Punjab are our foremost priority. The Punjab government is providing basic facilities to the people of South Punjab at their doorstep.'
Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly acknowledged that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab is set on the path of real development. He appreciated that people-friendly decisions are the hallmark of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's government.

Punjab opposition slams police raids ahead of Aug 5 protest
Listen to article The Opposition in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday strongly condemned police raids on the residences of its MPAs and the alleged harassment of their families ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) countrywide protest on August 5. As the assembly session began under the chair of Acting Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channer, Deputy Opposition Leader Muhammad Moeenuddin Riaz raised the issue on a point of order, expressing serious concern over what he termed as a preemptive crackdown. 'There are still many days left in August 5, but the police officials have already started conducting raids at the residences of our MPAs,' he said. 'It is regrettable that the families of our MPAs and workers are also being harassed by Punjab police,' he added, demanding the law minister take immediate notice of the situation. However, Provincial Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman appeared unaware of the raids. 'It is not in my knowledge,' he said, while assuring the House that he would contact senior police officials and the Home Department to obtain more information. Later, Opposition MPA Tayyab Rashid raised concerns about the illegal human organ trade, alleging that a kidney transplantation racket was operating in Sheikhupura 'under the nose of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.' He criticised the government for targeting the Opposition instead of addressing pressing issues affecting the public. 'The government should de-focus from the Opposition and do something for the needy masses,' he said. He claimed that influential individuals were diverting canal water to their own lands, leaving poor farmers helpless. 'They knocked the doors many times of concerned authorities, but their efforts proved futile,' he told the assembly. From the treasury benches, MPA Amjad Ali Javed raised an issue regarding Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies, stating that new regulations were causing distress among computer science students. He said the HEC had ruled that a computer science degree would not be considered valid without accreditation from a specific council. 'Students who have completed two semesters are now deeply concerned about the issue,' Javed noted. He urged the HEC to review and relax the policy in the interest of students' futures.

Minister tells FPCCI body: KE receiving low-cost power from Sindh's hybrid, solar parks
KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that K-Electric is being provided low-cost electricity from the Nooriabad Power Plant and other hybrid and solar parks in Sindh, with plans for further supply in the future. Despite this, KE continues to raise concerns over fossil fuel costs, which he termed 'regrettable.' Speaking at a special session of the FPCCI Standing Committee on Energy, Shah emphasized that the Sindh government opposed the imposition of taxes on solar energy, calling it a clean, affordable, and sustainable source that should be widely promoted. He revealed that a mechanism is being developed to address consumer grievances over K-Electric's overbilling. KE fighting a 'power' struggle, one phase at a time 'The company is receiving cheaper power and can no longer deny it,' he added. Highlighting development efforts, Shah stated that Rs 5 billion have been allocated for infrastructure upgrades in industrial zones, and work is underway at a fast pace. The minister urged the federal government to ensure full representation of Sindh in the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). 'We demand three representatives from Sindh — one each from the provincial government, the business community, and consumer rights groups,' he said. Shah reiterated Sindh's commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency through its natural resources, including wind, solar, and Thar coal. 'With serious cooperation from the federal government, Sindh has the potential to power the entire country,' he said. He invited investors to participate in renewable energy projects, announcing that a one-window operation would soon be launched to facilitate them.
