Hollyoaks confirms unexpected Joel twist with killer Jez set to strike again

Metro12-05-2025

Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) will find himself in grave danger in Hollyoaks next week when Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) sets out to claim his life in order to keep his own secrets hidden.
Crazed killer Jez, as viewers know, has taken countless lives over the decades, keeping track of his victims with mementos belonging to them stored in a little book.
Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith) and Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) are among those to have met their demise at Jez's hands and new spoilers confirm that Joel is in danger of becoming the next.
Fake therapist Tommy Odenkirk (Brandon Fellows), who has been trying to build a brotherly bond with Joel, uncovered Jez's murderous secrets earlier this month during a therapy session, which he recorded.
Jez was determined to dispose of the threat to his freedom by claiming manipulative Tommy's life.
Tommy, however, confirmed that recordings of his confessions would be sent to the police if anything were to happen to him, meaning that he has Jez exactly where he wants him.

Determined to use his discovery as leverage, Tommy instructed Jez to murder Leela (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) so that he could have Joel all to himself. Jez's actions backfired, with Leela surviving the killer's attempt on her life.
However, the incident did ultimately spell the end of Joel's marriage, with Leela finding out about her husband's one night stand with Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin), which led to her calling it quits.
Upcoming scenes see Joel hopeful of a reunion with Leela, who admits that she's struggling with baby Clara on her own. Frustrated at the pair's closeness, Tommy once again tasks Jez with getting rid of Leela – and this time for good.
Jez doubts Tommy's threats – that is, until Tommy makes reference to an alter-ego of his, known as The Reaper.
Joel, meanwhile, catches Jez snooping at Tommy's flat and is left confused. Seeing an opportunity to turn the tables, Jez reveals that Tommy isn't who he says he is, revealing the fake therapist has plotted to ruin his life and end his relationship with Leela.
He doesn't stop there, filling Joel in on how it was Tommy who leaked the video of Leela online a few months ago.
The scales well and truly fall from Joel's eyes and he urges Jez to come with him to the police as they report Tommy. Jez is keen to avoid police involvement for obvious reasons and thus he invites Joel for a drink.
Heartbroken, Joel parties the night away with Jez and ends up taking drugs. Jez, meanwhile, receives a visit from Tommy in the form of The Reaper, who reminds him that his time is running out – and that he must kill Joel, otherwise he will reveal all about him being a serial killer.
Later, Leela spots Joel outside the club and comes to realise that he's on drugs. She reveals that she vowed to never be with him again if he relapsed.
With Joel high and unable to spot the danger, he later finds himself in a serious situation as killer Jez closes in, ready to kill him.
Will Jez claim another victim? Is Joel's time up? More Trending
That remains to be seen but later in the week Marie (Rita Simons) tells Leela that Joel needs their support, reminding her that he's a recovering addict and that, despite what he's done, they cannot abandon him.
Realising Marie is right, Leela sets off with her to find Joel. But will they be successful? Or has the unthinkable transpired?

Beyonce fans camp in tents outside Tottenham Stadium ahead of Cowboy Carter tour

Beyoncé's performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium kick off tonight – and fans have been camping out all day in preparation. The Grammy Award-winning musician will perform six shows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium starting on June 5. The dates are her first UK shows since her Renaissance World Tour in 2023. After tonight, Beyoncé will go on to perform on June 7, 10, 12, 14, and 16, following a string of dates across America, where she will perform tracks from her eighth studio album. While the stadium is set to open its doors to 62,000 fans shortly, some are worried about the rainy conditions. Others are metaphorically and literally preparing to dance in the rain, with many fans literally camping out in preparation. A TikTok posted by user Paolatravell shows countless fans in tents around the venue as early as 4am this morning. The show is set to go ahead regardless of the weather, something one American fan claimed is actually lucky. Fan Madeline DeFreece, who managed to not only survive the rain, but claimed it added to the show, told Metro: 'This show was meant to be performed in the rain. The way the fabric moved on the contemporary dancers — I could not imagine it any differently.' She continued: 'At one point the cowboys had a Magic Mike moment, thrusting the floor of the stage and immediately I turned to my friend and said, 'We are so privileged to be in such a time and place.' I mean it was hot and provocative in a way that I don't think Beyoncé nor her team planned for.' More Trending Madeline also added: 'I'd pay to see it again, I'd pay even more to see it again in the rain.' During her first appearance on opening night at the Los Angeles SoFi Stadium, the tot walked on in a gold dress with Beyoncé, who wore glittering gold and green plaid chaps and bodysuit, and her sister during the song, Protector. It's unclear if Rumi will be taking to the stage tonight, but rest assured the event will still be a family affair with Blue Ivy putting in a shift as a dancer. Got a story? Teen jailed for killing grandad and girl, 12, who filmed attack avoids prison

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A 13-year-old girl who egged on her friend as he beat an 80-year-old man to death and laughed while filming it on her phone has avoided jail. Bhim Kohli was attacked on September 1 last year while walking his dog Rocky in Franklin Park, not far from his home in Braunstone Town. The grandfather was racially abused, and the girl filmed the boy inflicting 'gratuitous' and 'intense' violence against him, first with a slider and then with kicks and punches. The teenagers, who cannot be named because of their ages, were convicted of manslaughter at Leicester Crown Court in April. The boy was cleared of murder. He was today detained for seven years, while the girl was given a three-year youth rehabilitation order with a six-month curfew at the same court. The judge, Mr Justice Turner, said the boy 'wanted to confront Mr Kohli' because he was 'showing off' to the girl knowing she would film the altercation. He told the boy: 'I am sure you knocked Mr Kohli to the ground and then hit him to the head with your slider as he was on his knees trying to get up. 'I am sure Mr Kohli did nothing to deserve this. What you did was wicked. 'You made a cowardly and violent attack on an elderly man.' He added to the girl he was sure she 'found this funny', adding: 'That is why you laughed while it happened.' But he said that while she 'actively encouraged' the boy to carry on, she didn't expect him to use 'anything like' the level of violence he did when losing his temper. Mr Kohli was forced to the ground during the attack, before the boy slapped him in the face with the slider. The boy was wearing a balaclava at the time of the assault. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Bhim died in hospital the following day. His daughter said the teenagers had 'humiliated' her father in an 'utterly disgusting' attack. Susan Kohli said: 'Dad did not deserve this, and we wouldn't wish this pain on anyone else. 'One of the videos showed dad on his knees being hit over the head with the boy's slider (shoe). A loud horrible slapping sound is heard when the boy struck dad. 'Hearing the girl laugh at this assault on dad is utterly disgusting. This sound plays over and over in our heads.' Describing the moments she found her father injured on the ground in the park just yards from the family home, Ms Kohli said: 'He was in so much pain, he was screaming out. It was horrendous and we have never seen him like this. 'We knew he was very poorly and in severe pain, but we thought he would go to Leicester Royal Infirmary and be fine. We never imagined he would never return home. 'We were later told the shocking news he was no longer able to take the medication that was keeping him alive. 'He passed away before our eyes, surrounded by his family who were in floods of tears and disbelief. 'Due to him being killed in these circumstances and being involved in a criminal investigation, dad was unable to donate his organs which were always his wishes. It pains me we were unable to meet his wishes.' Mr Kohli's grandson Simranjit Kohli said he had been left wondering if his grandfather may have survived if he had got there sooner after he cried out for help. 'I was the first one out of my family at the scene. Not a day goes by when I think if I were minutes earlier I could have stopped what happened,' he said. 'There is, of course, sadness and sorrow, there's also hate, anger and rage. 'Everywhere I go I'm haunted by the thought I could be with him if things had happened differently that day.' During the trial, jurors were told the boy wrote a letter to a support worker saying he hated what he had done and adding 'I feel like my case is evil'. It read: 'I f****** hate what I did. I regret it so much. I have flashbacks of that day and it just upsets me. 'I just want my freedom or even to go back and not do it. 'I feel like my case is evil. I ain't that type of person. I kinda just needed anger etc releasing.' The letter went on to address the boy's view of his own mental health, the court heard, adding: 'I feel like I have let my mum down so much. I am nervous, well scared and worried. 'I accept I did it and I am doing time. I am just scared about how long I have to do. 'I get upset at little things and sometimes little things can affect my mood and my whole day. I actually feel like I f***** up everything by coming here. Life's f****** hard. I ain't depressed but I ain't really happy a lot of the time. 'I have always got shit on my mind. For now, I'm just f****** stressed and worried about court, like my plea.' Speaking after the case, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski said he was in no doubt social media played a role in the attack. More Trending 'The proliferation and use of phones and social media messages features more and more in inquiries and certainly with young people who now live their lives via phones,' he told the BBC. 'The three videos on the phone showed this female defendant wanted to film violence and indeed encouraged it. 'And when we looked at her phone and examined it further, chillingly there were numerous previous incidents where she had filmed violence and was encouraging violence. 'The prosecution case was that was no coincidence, and that very much mirrored the attack on Mr Kohli.' Six methods people claim will induce labour, rated by a midwife

Meghan Markle tried to twerk her baby out — and she might be onto something. To mark Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday, the Duchess of Sussex shared a never-before-seen video from the maternity ward, filmed before her daughter was born. The clip, which some are calling cringeworthy, showed Meghan throwing it back to Baby Momma Dance by Starrkeisha, with Prince Harry bopping alongside. Just your average royal birth preparation. She captioned the video: 'Both of our children were a week past their due dates.. so when spicy food, all that walking and acupuncture didn't work — there was only one thing left to do.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video With Lillibet arriving safely, the world can only assume Meghan's rhythmic tactics worked. We've all heard the same theories as Meghan, but every mum's experience is different, and what works for some, definitely won't for others. So, can a last-minute boogie really get things moving? Metro asked Lesley Bland, lead midwife for education at My Expert Midwife, to share her thoughts on the most popular labour-inducing tricks — and how effective they are out of five. Turns out Meghan's dancing wasn't so random after all. 'If you are going to try anything, try a little boogie, shimmy, or a wiggle,' says Lesley. The midwife explains dancing — or similar exercise — can encourage the baby's head to descend through the pelvis, which in turn puts pressure onto the cervix, which can start uterine contractions.' However, she adds: 'As always, there is no guarantee that your Lambada or Salsa will induce labour, but you might have fun doing it, which will release that incredible hormone of love, oxytocin, which in itself is associated with labour.' Lesley advises giving it a try. 'At best, your labour will kick in; at worst, you'll have fun! Lesley says this is another method of encouraging labour that she can get on board with. 'Adopting an upright mobile position can help to get the baby's head down into the pelvis, which puts pressure onto the cervix and kickstarts early labour.' She says gentle walking three to four times a week, and curb walking (where one foot is on the curb and one on the road) have been recommended. 'Exercise in general can have positive effects on labour and recovery in the postnatal period,' she adds. While it's not guaranteed to induce labour, she suggests trying it to boost your mental health and general well-being too. This is a commonly suggested way to induce labour, but is there any truth to it? Lesley says: 'There have been some trials looking at sexual intercourse to induce labour, but the results are very spurious, and the conclusions are uncertain. 'We know sperm contains prostaglandins, which are hormone-like substances that are used in the induction of labour to make the cervix more favourable.' She adds that sex can also release the love hormone, oxytocin, which is associated with labour. Is there any harm in trying it? Lesley says: 'Some women find having sex at the end of the pregnancy really uncomfortable, while others enjoy the intimacy it brings with their partner before the sleepless nights.' She adds that sex should always be avoided if you have a low-lying placenta, have experienced any vaginal bleeding or have an amniotic water shave broken. If you have been advised not to for any other reason by your healthcare team, you should also abstain. Becca Mascarenhas, Midwife at The Portland Hospital (part of HCA Healthcare), tells Metro: 'Expectant mums are often keen to try natural ways to bring on labour, but it's important to know which methods are based on evidence, and which ones are more of a myth. 'It's also important to speak to your midwife before trying any labour-inducing techniques. Every woman and every pregnancy is different, so personalised advice is key. 'I would also add that we only ever recommend any of these techniques from 37 weeks pregnant to reduce the risk of pre-term labour.' Lesley says: 'This one has done the rounds for years, and, to be honest, is probably one of the ones that I would be encouraging women not to try.' Spicy food can cause a degree of irritation to the gastro system, which is more likely to cause diarrhoea than induce labour, according to Lesley. 'If you enjoy spicy food, then there is no reason not to have it if you really fancy it, but as a midwife, I wouldn't be using it as a means of inducing labour.' Some suggest eating prunes for the same reason as eating spicy food. Lesly says: 'It's more likely to give you loose bowels than induce labour, but if you fancy some then go for it.' Drinking raspberry leaf tea has been shared far and wide on social media as a natural remedy to induce labour. However, Lesley advises against it. She explains: 'Raspberry leaf tea helps to strengthen the smooth uterine muscle wall, which means that when contractions do start, they are more effective and efficient, helping labour to progress well.' More Trending So, the fruity tea gets an extra point for helping during labour, but as Lesley says: 'There is no evidence to support the theory that drinking it will actually induce labour, and as a midwife, I would not recommend this for that purpose.' Lesley explains that the method of drinking castor oil was used in the past as an alternative method for inducing labour, even during the 20th Century. She says: 'As a registered midwife, I would strongly recommend not even giving it a go. 'There has been some evidence that suggests castor oil can cause some uterine contractions, but if we are being honest about it, the effects are more likely to be an upset stomach and diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting than induction of labour.'
