A Festival That Redefined Public Perception
On August 9, 2025, India celebrated the cherished festival of Raksha Bandhan—a day dedicated to the bond between brothers and sisters. The cricketing community was no exception, as several players marked the occasion by sharing heartwarming photos and videos with their sisters. Among the many celebrations, one moment stood out when Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj observed the festival with Zanai Bhosle , granddaughter of the legendary singer Asha Bhosle This public celebration not only showcased their sibling-like relationship but also laid to rest the wave of dating rumors that had surrounded them for months. Shortly after posting the video of the ceremony, Zanai chose to disable the comments section, seemingly to avoid further speculation. In the video shared by Zanai, she appeared in a green salwar kameez, while Siraj opted for a classic white kurta-pyjama. The clip showed Zanai tying a rakhi around Siraj's wrist, applying a traditional tilak, and receiving a gift envelope from him. It was a straightforward yet affectionate gesture that clearly conveyed their sibling bond . Interestingly, Siraj also disabled comments on the collaboration post, matching Zanai's decision.Rumors linking Siraj and Zanai had been swirling since earlier in the year when photos from Zanai's 23rd birthday party began circulating online. The two were seen sharing a light moment, which quickly led fans to assume they might be romantically involved. At the time, both took to Instagram Stories to clarify matters, calling each other brother and sister. Zanai hinted at their sibling bond, while Siraj expressed his fondness for her as a sister, adding that there was no one quite like her.The birthday celebration appeared to take place on a rooftop, with Zanai dressed in a glittery blue low-neck gown and Siraj sporting a black shirt. Despite their earlier clarifications, social media chatter continued, with some fans affectionately referring to Zanai as 'bhabhi ji' and flooding the posts with heart emojis. Raksha Bandhan 2025 provided the perfect opportunity for Zanai and Siraj to conclusively address the ongoing speculation. By sharing the rakhi-tying video, they reinforced their sibling connection and underlined that there was no romantic angle to their friendship. The clear symbolism of the festival made it hard for rumors to persist.Zanai's birthday gathering, held at a Mumbai restaurant, was attended by a number of notable personalities. In addition to the viral photos with Siraj, she also posed with her grandmother Asha Bhosle, veteran actor Jackie Shroff, actor Abhay Verma, and cricketer Shreyas Iyer. These snapshots reflected her close ties both within and outside the entertainment industry.Like her grandmother, Zanai Bhosle has embraced music as part of her artistic journey. She has sung for multiple projects, lending her voice to tracks such as Kehndi Hai and Saiya Bina. Her passion for the arts extends beyond singing—she is poised to make her acting debut in the upcoming historical film Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, directed by Sandeep Singh. In the movie, she will portray Rani Sai Bai, an important figure in Maratha history. At just 23 years old, Zanai has already established herself as a promising singer and soon-to-be actress. Her social media presence is growing steadily, with her Instagram account—launched in February 2023—now boasting more than 2,04,000 followers.By tying a rakhi to Siraj and publicly sharing the moment, Zanai not only honored the cultural tradition but also offered a graceful response to months of unfounded gossip. In doing so, she reminded her audience that sibling bonds hold a unique and irreplaceable place, even in an era when public figures are constantly under scrutiny. The Raksha Bandhan celebration thus became more than just a family ritual—it turned into a symbolic statement of respect, clarity, and cultural pride.

Kol to host jury for India's Oscar entry

Kolkata: The president of the Film Federation of India (FFI), the umbrella organization for all major film associations in India, has announced that Kolkata will host the jury meeting to select India's official entry for the 98th Academy Awards. At its managing committee meeting on Tuesday, the FFI executive committee also opened applications for films seeking nomination in the International Feature Film category. Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' was India's official entry for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, but it did not make the shortlist. The FFI will appoint a jury chairperson, along with experienced professionals from creative fields, to form the selection panel. The final entry will be determined by a vote after all screenings are completed, with the announcement scheduled by late Sept. According to FFI president Firdausul Hasan, the organization has overseen this selection process in India since 1957. "That year, 'Mother India' was the Indian entry," Hasan noted. The Mehboob Khan film starring Nargis and Sunil Dutt had reached the final five in the Best Foreign Film category. "Since 1957, there have been two occasions—2019 and 2021—when the jury met in Kolkata. The first was in 2019, chaired by actor-director Aparna Sen. The second was in 2021, with director Shaji Karun as jury chairman," Hasan added. In 2019, 'Gully Boy' was chosen as India's official Oscar entry, while in 2021, "Koozhangal" (Pebbles) was selected. On both occasions, the jury convened at Bijoli Theatre for screenings and deliberations. "This year, we plan to hold the meeting at one of Kolkata's multiplexes," he said. "We encourage more filmmakers to participate in the selection process for India's entry this year," Hasan said. When asked if the fee is prohibitive for regional cinema, he explained, "It is necessary to cover logistical expenses." According to the guidelines, eligible films must be released in India between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Each film must have a public theatrical run of at least seven consecutive days in a commercial cinema for the benefit of the producer and exhibitor. The Academy also permits films to qualify if they are theatrically exhibited outside their country of origin (excluding the USA and its territories) for at least seven days with paid admission. Eligible entries must have at least 60% of their content in a local Indian language or dialect. Among other things, submissions must also include a list and synopsis of artists and technicians, an English-subtitled version, details of film festival entries or awards received, and a website or page for the film. Films unreleased as of September 10 this year but seeking Oscar consideration must submit an undertaking and confirmation from the production and distribution company that the film will be released for at least seven days in a theatre before the deadline. Passenger on India debut: I would love to work in a Bollywood film

Though he's visited India quite a few times as a tourist, his week-long sojourn this November is extra special. Passenger aka Mike Rosenberg is looking forward to marking his music debut in India with a three-city tour. 'India has always been close to my heart. I've been to Kerala so many times and the place is magical. But I never got a chance to travel to other parts of the country. During my week-long musical trip to India, I wish to soak in the magic and culture of the beautiful place,' says the multi-award-winning English singer-songwriter, who will be performing Passenger India 2025 across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The tour has been produced and promoted by Bookmyshow Live. Passenger(Photo: Instagram) As he speaks to us from the UK, he admits that he's aware of the kind of love his music receives in India. 'Thanks to social media and other music platforms, I get to gauge the love Indians shower on me and my music. Since I'm a lot into indie folk, I know Indians resonate with that kind of work. I can't wait to take the stage and offer all that I have to my fans during my India tour. I want my concerts to be the best Indians have seen. People spend money and invest so much time and emotions in attending a concert, and I make sure I make my gigs interactive so that they feel a part of it,' says Passenger. The 41-year-old, who calls himself 'lazy' when it comes to educating himself with music from other countries, says he's aware of the kind of popularity Indian musicians such as AR Rahman command globally, and he hopes to learn more about such artistes and their works. The singer, best-known for his chartbuster Let Her Go, shares, 'I would love to work in a Bollywood film. Though my trip is really packed, I hope to catch up with some artistes and explore the possibility of collab. I feel I can connect with Indian audiences, as the themes for my music - love, loss and introspection- are something Indians resonate with.'

Chicago rapper King Yella's latest interview did not exactly have a smooth ending. The No Love City artist sat down with YouTube's Cam Capone News for what ended up being a two-hour conversation, posted Monday, August 11. Throughout the chat, Yella kept a bottle of Crown Royal close by, taking swigs in between questions. By the time the conversation hit the two-hour mark, the liquor had clearly caught up with him. King Yella collapses mid-interview(YouTube/ Cam Campone) As the interview wound down, Capone pulled up footage of Tory Lanez being stabbed during a prison fight in May - something Yella said he had not heard about before. Watching the clip, he reacted bluntly: 'He's stabbing the shit out his eye,' referring to inmate Santino Casio attacking Lanez. King Yella falls off chair Yella took one last drink, set the bottle on the table, and then grimaced. He started pounding his chest, looking like he was in pain. The video cuts before showing what happened next, but the clip quickly spread online. Some viewers found it funny, which did not sit well with Yella.
