VMAs to Air on CBS for the First Time

Yahoo04-04-2025

The VMAs are headed to CBS for the first time.
The 2025 Video Music Awards will air on CBS this fall, with a simulcast on MTV, which hosts the awards ceremony. The three-hour show will also stream on Paramount+. While the 2025 VMAs will only be available across MTV, CBS and Paramount+, the one-hour live pre-show is set to air across Paramount's networks.
The 2025 show will air live from the UBS Arena on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/5:00-8:00 p.m. PT.
The 2025 show marks a change from the 2024 ceremony, which saw its pre-show and ceremony air across MTV, BET, BET Her, CMT, CC, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land and VH1.
The 2024 show scored a viewership of 4.09 million across the Paramount networks, growing 25% year-over-year and delivering its biggest multi-network audience in four years. The show also scored 66.7 million social interactions, ranking as the most social VMAs in show history.
Despite taking away the simulcast across a handful of Paramount networks, adding Paramount+ as a streamer looks likely to grow the show's audience, especially with the show previously not streaming until the day after air. The VMAs follow in line with other awards shows that have added a streaming arm, including the Oscars, which were live-streamed for the first time on Hulu, and the Emmys, which are gearing up to live-stream on Paramount+ this fall.
Details regarding nominations and performers for the 2025 ceremony announced closer to the show.
The 2025 VMAs are executive produced by Bruce Gillmer and Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic, with Barb Bialkowski serving as co-executive producer. Alicia Portugal and Jackie Barba are executives in charge of production while Wendy Plaut is executive in charge of celebrity talent and Lisa Lauricella is executive in charge of music talent.

The next James Bond movie just found its director

Oscar-nominated Denis Villeneuve will direct the next "James Bond" film, Amazon MGM Studios has announced. Amazon announced Wednesday, June 25, that the "Dune" director will helm the film – the first under Amazon MGM Studios. The news comes four months after Amazon took creative control of the Bond franchise as part of an agreement with longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who will focus on "other projects" going forward. "I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility," Villeneuve said in a statement. Villeneuve is the Canadian film director and writer behind critically acclaimed films like "Sicario," "Dune," "Dune: Part Two," "Blade Runner 2049" and "Arrival." He was nominated for best director at the 2017 Oscars for sci-fi film "Arrival," which starred Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and for best adapted screenplay for "Dune," based on author Frank Herbert's highly acclaimed 1965 novel of the same name, at the 2022 Oscars. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the next Bond movie. 'Dune 2' review: Timothee Chalamet sci-fi epic gets it right the second time around Who is the next James Bond? Just after news of the Amazon deal was announced, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos asked followers on X, "Who'd you pick as the next Bond?" The longest-running movie series has yet to name a new lead actor following Daniel Craig's final outing as 007 in "No Time to Die" in 2021, which earned nearly $800 million at the global box office. Next Bond movie release date Amazon MGM Studios has not revealed when the next Bond movie will be released. James Bond is now controlled by Amazon, Jeff Bezos solicits casting ideas Inside Amazon MGM Studios takeover of Bond franchise Amazon MGM Studios, Wilson and Broccoli remain co-owners of the franchise. The creative takeover marked the end of an era for Bond, a franchise that Broccoli and her half-brother Wilson have controlled since 1995. The film series began with 1962's "Dr. No" under the stewardship of Albert R. Broccoli, Barbara's father, and Harry Saltzman. Amazon gained the rights to distribute the Bond films after acquiring MGM in 2022, the year after "No Time to Die," though Wilson and Broccoli retained creative control. The deal could also open the door for Amazon to expand Bond into new areas, such as spinoff films and streaming shows. The company previously released "007: Road to a Million," a reality competition show based on the world of Bond, in 2023. Denis Villeneuve to direct next James Bond movie

Denis Villeneuve, whose films have won several Oscars, will direct the next movie in the James Bond franchise, Amazon MGM Studios has announced. Villeneuve, a French-Canadian filmmaker best known for his work on 'Blade Runner 2049,' 'Arrival' and the 'Dune' movies, will work with executive producer Tanya Lapointe and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman. 'Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory,' said Villeneuve in a statement released by Amazon MGM Studios Wednesday. 'I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor,' he added. Villeneuve's most recent film, 'Dune: Part Two,' was widely acclaimed when it was released last year and he now has an opportunity to bring those talents to a storied franchise. 'We are honored that Denis has agreed to direct James Bond's next chapter. He is a cinematic master, whose filmography speaks for itself,' said Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, in the statement. 'James Bond is in the hands of one of today's greatest filmmakers and we cannot wait to get started on 007's next adventure,' he added. Amazon MGM Studios took over the Bond franchise in February. Under the deal, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli – the duo who brought the 007 films to theaters for more than 60 years – remain co-owners, having formed a new joint venture with Amazon MGM that handed over the creative reins and control of all future production to the Jeff Bezos-founded company. Amazon bought MGM in 2022 for $8.25 billion, acquiring the Hollywood studio's catalog of 4,000 movies and 17,000-plus TV shows. As part of the deal, Amazon gained possession of the rights to distribute all 27 of the movies based on Ian Fleming's books. MGM's Bond films are the studio's most lucrative intellectual property, having brought in billions since first releasing 'Dr. No' in 1962. The latest installment of the spy franchise, 'No Time to Die,' raked in more than $770 million at the global box office, making it the fourth-highest grossing film of 2021. Villeneuve and Amazon MGM Studios will now have to choose a new actor for the titular role, as Daniel Craig announced that 'No Time to Die' would be his last Bond movie. CNN's Liam Reilly contributed to this report.
