A woman who resides on an island close to the North Pole and Norway has revealed what it's like living in the chilly location.
Cecilia Blomdahl, @sejsejlija, shares her Arctic lifestyle on Svalbard to her 2.9million TikTok followers.
She sometimes stays in an off-grid cabin and in one video, detailed the dangers she has to deal with when there.
The content creator revealed polar bears sometimes try to break in to similar set ups, and explained how she protects herself.
'The last time a polar bear broke into this cabin was 20 years ago,' she explained.
Cecilia's cabin is in a remote location, some distance from another town and is not easily accessible.
'It's fully off grid so it has no electricity, no modern amenities and it's located far away from town,' she said.
'The only way to get here in winter is by snowmobile and in summer by boat.'
However, the secluded area means there's other wildlife around, including polar bears.
'It is not uncommon for polar bears to break into off grid cabins and we actually just recently had a polar bear very close to town so that is something you always have to think about when you're here on Svalbard in general,' Cecilia revealed.
She has to take precautions when leaving the cabin, just in case there's a potential danger nearby.
'Whenever you go outside you need to look around the corners before stepping out to kind of see your surroundings,' Cecilia explained.
She shared how her dog is also helpful in noticing other animals from far away.
'Grim is fine being outdoors because he can actually tell us if anything is coming close to the cabin way before we can see it,' she said.
Cecilia also carries a firearm with her whenever she is away from the village as another form of protection against polar bears.
She explained how it is necessary, especially when in the remote cabin.
Cecilia said: 'Here on Svalbard, everyone is required to bring a firearm as polar bear protection whenever they are outside of the village so that is very important to have with you when you're on a cabin trip like this.
However, she was careful to emphasise it would only be use in particularly dangerous scenarios.
'But the firearm is only for life-threatening situations,' she added.

Woman says famous Scottish island 'isn't always like the videos you see online'

A woman who lives on one of Scotland's most visited islands and shares her everyday life online has opened up on how it may not match what many tourists imagine Scotland is renowned for its breathtaking terrain featuring peaks, such as the Scottish Highlands and Loch Ness. Countless visitors flock to the nation to experience its natural beauty and scenery, alongside attractions like historic castles. ‌ The country is equally celebrated for its cultural heritage, made up of its diverse selection of whisky, tartan kilts, bagpipes and the traditional delicacy haggis. Scotland is believed to provide a tranquil retreat from England's bustling cities, but one woman has revealed the stark truth about living on the nation's most sought-after island, the Isle of Skye. Stretching 50 miles in length, it's the biggest island in the Inner Hebrides, distinguished by its striking landscape and charming fishing communities. ‌ Niamh Mackinnon, 22-years-old, documents her island life through clips on TikTok and YouTube. ‌ In a recent TikTok upload, the Scottish local explained: "I live on the most popular island in Scotland and the reason we're so popular is because of specific landscapes, one of them being the Old Man of Storr, so I thought today I would show you what it's like at the height of summer because it might not be the picturesque, tranquil, peaceful dream that you are being sold online sometimes but we'll see, let's go." The Old Man of Storr is a soaring rocky formation on the Trotternish Ridge that is considered the most iconic hike on the Isle of Skye. Niamh prepared for her journey to the beloved landmark, bundling up in several clothing layers, waterproof trousers and hiking boots. ‌ As she arrived, Niamh was faced with rows of parked cars and dreary weather, prompting her to say: "I'm not trying to just complain in this vlog but the midges are so bad. I need to get a move on and look how busy it is." She embarked on the trek up the Old Man of Storr, but the conditions were far from ideal – grey skies, rain, fog, and a muddy path surrounded by grass. ‌ The young vlogger reflected on the changes over time: "I'm not even that old and there was a time when I was younger where you would come up here and know every single person that you passed. Tragic." Sitting amidst the bustle, Niamh shared her mixed feelings: "I'm just sitting here like looking at how busy it is and everything and I don't know, this is when I start to feel a bit like hypocritical or like bad about how much I post Skye online because it also makes me sad seeing this place so busy when I remember a time when it was so quiet and peaceful." She continued, grappling with her emotions: "And of course it's nice for other people in the world to get to experience this and it's on my doorstep so I don't wanna be greedy but yeah, it's a weird feeling to be honest." ‌ Although the Old Man of Storr was the focus of her video, the fog meant it was barely visible. Niamh concluded her video early, opting to head back down due to the wet conditions, crowds, and limited visibility of the Storr. She pointed out that this is "just the reality of Skye sometimes." Niamh's TikTok video has racked up an incredible 2.4 million views, alongside thousands of likes and comments. A shocked viewer asked: "This HEIGHT of summer???" Another user shared their experience: "I know this weird feeling. It's the same here in the Swiss alps. "As a kid you knew almost everyone you met on a hike. Now it's packed and most tourists don't even say hello." A third remarked: "A lot of places seem to struggle with excessive tourism having a negative impact. Hope that a happy balance can be found for the area you live in."

EasyJet traveller feels sick after spotting what couple are doing on budget flight

A 27-year-old woman travelling home from Tenerife got the shock of her life after watching a couple engaging in a disgusting and disturbing act onboard the budget airline A holidaymaker was left horrified after noticing what a couple were doing on a budget flight. Erin Butcher was flying home from a seven-day family holiday in Tenerife when she caught a man 'picking dirt from under his partner's toenails' during an easyJet flight ‌ Erin first noticed a woman's bare feet propped up on a tray table during the flight. The 27-year-old was then left feeling 'disgusted' when the man appeared to pick at her French pedicure toenails before 'flicking bits of dirt' around. She claims the couple did this for 20 minutes, while other passengers laughed nervously in confusion. ‌ The fashion merchandiser shared footage of the stomach-churning moment with the caption 'Nothing beats an easyJet flight. Hope no one ate off this tray table on the next flight'. ‌ The clip was uploaded on TikTok on July 31st and has since gone viral, racking up more than 336,200 views. Sickened, Erin says it was 'unhygienic' and made for a 'depressing' end to her holiday. ‌ Erin, from Southwark, South East London, said: "I felt so disgusted and I couldn't believe it. "The partner was sprawled across the seats with her feet on the tray table, which was shocking enough. "Her partner then started picking at her toenails and flicking little bits [of dirt] everywhere. It was disgusting." ‌ She added: "I was absolutely horrified. I was with my family and none of us could actually believe what was happening. "Even to do that in the privacy of your own home is questionable but to put them on a tray table where people are eating off all day. "I was relieved I wasn't sitting next to them. I had the perfect view from my aisle seat which is horrifying. I couldn't really take my eyes off even though I wanted to. ‌ "Her feet were on that table the majority of the four-and-a-half-hour flight. She was really making herself at home. It's so unhygienic. "Other passengers around us had noticed as well. Everyone was laughing and it was quite unbelievable. "As if things aren't depressing enough when your week in the sun has just ended and you're faced with toe picking the whole way home." ‌ Many users took to the comments to express their disgust. One user wrote: "Totally gross." While someone else commented: "That's disgusting anywhere." EasyJet has been approached for a comment. It comes after another plane passenger recently blasted a mum for changing her baby's dirty nappy on a tray table rather than taking the infant to the bathroom. She said on Reddit: "I'm a really nauseous flyer, so I took a Dramamine ahead of time and did my best to get some sleep during the flight. "This didn't happen because of the baby's crying, but oh well, I know flights are scary and stressful for infants and there was nothing anyone could do about that. "What got to me was the couple changing their baby's extremely stinky number two diaper right in the middle of their seats, using the mum's food tray as a changing table. "We were at the back of the plane right by the bathrooms, which I confirmed had baby changing tables when I had to go back there to throw up after the smell hit me." Much to her delight, the pilot ended up speaking out against this behaviour - but sadly it was too late to stop the smell from making its way around the cabin.
