Nothing's Essential Space receives a new update for improved shareability

Last month, Nothing released an update for its AI-powered hub called Essential Space to make it more useful to users. Now, the London-based company has rolled out another update for Essential Space for improved shareability. Nothing Phone (3) 5G
The new update now allows Nothing Phone (3), Phone (3a), and Phone (3a) Pro users to share the "Flip-to-Record" audio clips easily. The clip can also be shared as an image, a PDF, or a Markdown file.
In addition to letting users share the audio clips, the update also allows users to share the Memories (images, screenshots) stored in Essential Space as images, PDFs, or Markdown files with others.
Nothing is rolling out these updates to Essential Space via the Google Play Store, so if you haven't received them yet, check if you are running the latest version of Essential Space. Nothing Phone (3a) Nothing Phone (3a) Pro

The Android 17 dessert name leaks. Can you guess what it is?
Started as an inside joke at Google, many of you younger Android users might not remember the dessert name given to new Android releases starting with Android 1.5, which was the third build of Android after Android 1.0 and Android 1.1. The dessert names were names of a desert, and since Android 1.5 was the third build of Android, the dessert name started with a "C" since that is the third letter of the alphabet. Every major new Android build was given a dessert name that started with the letter of the alphabet that was next after the previous major Android build. For example, the fourth build of Android, Android 1.6, had the dessert name Donut. The first Android phone owned by many of you older PhoneArena users was the fantastic Motorola DROID. It was the first phone running Android 2.0, which was the fifth major build of Android and had the dessert name of Eclair. The latter started with the letter "E," the next letter in the alphabet after the "D" used for Android 1.6, the previous major Android release. Eclair was the first Android operating system to feature free Google Maps turn-by-turn directions. Google eventually partnered with Nestle, and in 2013, the dessert name for Android 4.4 was KitKat after the well-known chocolate bar. This took Android to promo heaven as 50 million KitKat bars nestled inside a wrapper containing Android branding were released in 19 countries. These wrappers offered prizes such as a free Nexus 7 tablet. Google repeated this with Android 8 and Android 8.1 in 2017. A deal with Nabisco allowed Google to use the world famous Oreo name as an Android dessert moniker. As it did with KitKat, Google took advantage of the popularity of the creme-filled sandwich cookie to promote Android devices among Oreo buyers. Google ended the practice of giving each major new Android release a dessert name after Android 9 was given the Pie desert name in 2018. Since Android 10, Google has kept the tradition alive, but only internally. The practice of using the next letter in the alphabet as the first letter for the selected dessert ended just this year. The internal dessert name for Android 15 in 2024 was Vanilla Ice Cream. By tradition, this year's internal dessert name should have started with a "W." Instead, because Google switched to a trunk-based model to develop new Android builds, Google moved ahead to "B" and selected Baklava as the dessert name for Android 16. Android expert Mishaal Rahman says that with Google returning to the practice of going down the alphabet each year for the first letter of the dessert name, Android 17 will use a dessert name starting with the letter "C." That will be "Cinnamon Bun," according to Rahman, who explains why he is so confident that this is indeed the correct dessert name for Android 17. "A trusted source within Google shared evidence with us that clearly shows the company using "CinnamonBun" as the internal codename for API level 37.0," he said. The Core API level is the name used by developers to distinguish different Android releases as opposed to the marketing names of the operating system, which uses numbers such as Android 15 and Android 16 . Rahman says that you might see Android 17 referred to as "Android CinnamonBun" in beta versions of Android 17. Once the OS hits platform stability and all changes to how the system interacts with apps have been locked in, you can expect Google to refer to the operating system as Android 17. Weekly poll results: the Honor Magic V5 is headed for a strong launch
The Honor Magic V5 is pricey but worth it for many voters in last week's poll. The phone's popularity could rise even higher, if it gets good reviews. As we write this, the V5 is preparing to launch in its first European market – that will be on August 12, Tuesday. We still don't know the pricing, so the nearly 14% of voters who think this foldable is too expensive may reconsider. Or they may be proven right, we will check back on Tuesday. Interestingly, of those not interested in the V5, several commented that it's because they already have a Magic V3 and are quite happy with it. To be fair, the V5 is not an earth-shattering upgrade – it's thinner (4.1mm/8.8mm vs. 4.35mm/9.2mm) and a bit lighter (217g vs. 226g), while offering a bigger battery (5,820mAh for the international model vs. 5,150mAh), but the V3 is still competitive in 2025. Among those who voted against the Honor Magic V5, there were a few that don't like the hardware (only 4%). Based on the comment section, the software may be a bigger issue – Honor's MagicOS has left a bad impression in some. Even with some fence-sitters, there are quite a few people who see the V5 as the best horizontal foldable right now and are just waiting for availability in their region. Here's how Gemini can save Android and iOS users much time and effort
Gemini Live is a mode within the Gemini app that allows the user to engage in a back-and-forth conversation with Gemini. With Gemini Live, you might never feel alone again. For example, I just had a five-minute conversation with Gemini Live about whether my Florida Panthers could win a third-straight Stanley Cup. The conversation flowed freely, and Gemini was up to date on all aspects of the conversation. This feature is available on both the Android and iOS versions of the Gemini app. To activate Gemini Live, tap the very last button on the right of the "Ask Gemini" box at the bottom of the display. It shows a waveform with the Gemini "sparkle" on the top right. To get the Gemini app on your Android device, tap on this link. To install it on your iPhone, tap on this link to download the app from the App Store. Google has been rolling out to both Android and iOS the ability to use Gemini Live to work with several apps, including Google Calendar and Keep Notes. For example, let's say that you want to add an appointment on the Google Calendar app. Open the Gemini app and activate Gemini Live following the directions I gave you in the paragraph above. When prompted to start the conversation, you can say something like, "Please add to Google Calendar an appointment I have on August 10th with Captain Crunch at 2 pm." You can also add new notes to the Keep app or even edit a list already created. For example, I already have a shopping list on Keep that I created. So I opened Gemini, went to Gemini Live, and asked to have cat food added to my shopping list, which was added immediately. This feature is also supposed to work with the Tasks app, although when I tried to create a reminder to take out the garbage, Gemini told me that it couldn't do it. Yet, when I opened the app, the task was right there, along with a button to press once the task is completed. Just a reminder that these features are also available for iOS. Lastly, the Tasks app can be loaded on your iPhone by tapping right here. Google Live integration on these apps is a great way to get things done quickly, without having to type or visit any app except for the Gemini app.
