If you're looking to boost your Wi-Fi signal this summer, especially when lounging in the garden, there are a few tricks you might want to consider. Slow or limited Wi-Fi can be a real headache for homeowners, particularly during the warmer months when many of us want to enjoy music, podcasts or video calls outdoors.
A tech expert has revealed some handy tips to improve your Wi-Fi coverage, including one that you may not have thought of before. The placement of your router and its proximity to certain objects and appliances can significantly impact your Wi-Fi signal and coverage.
Garden room specialist from Tiger Modular, Sam Jenkinson, warns that placing your router next to common household items like TVs, microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors and fridges can disrupt or absorb the signal, resulting in less coverage.

He advises: "When placing your Wi-Fi router, avoid positioning it near thick walls, metal surfaces or large electronics like TVs and fridges, as these can absorb or block the signal," He also notes that devices such as microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors and Bluetooth gadgets can interfere with the connection as they operate on the same frequencies as many Wi-Fi signals.
"Interestingly, mirrors and fish tanks can also disrupt signal strength by reflecting and absorbing the signal. While it might be tempting to hide your router in a cupboard or behind furniture for aesthetic reasons, doing so can dramatically reduce performance. Instead, aim to place it centrally, elevated, and in the open, think of Wi-Fi like light from a lamp: the more visible and unobstructed it is, the better it works throughout your space.", reports the Express.
Furthermore, Sam suggested that if you're struggling with Wi-Fi dead zones in your property, including your garden, it might be time to consider upgrading your router. He explained: "Your router is the heart of your setup. If it's old or outdated, it might not be capable of delivering a strong signal to the far corners of your property, let alone the garden. Upgrading to a modern, high-spec router can dramatically improve coverage and speeds."
He continued: "The first thing to consider is how far your garden room is from your main house, and how it's powered as this will determine which type of connection method is right for you. For instance, if your garden room is within a reasonable range and already picks up some Wi-Fi signal, a Wi-Fi extender or mesh system can help improve it.
"Wi-Fi extenders work by rebroadcasting your router's signal to reach further, while mesh systems use multiple devices that communicate wirelessly to create a seamless wireless network that blankets your home and garden. They're both great for smaller setups or when the distance isn't too extreme.
"However, these solutions rely on having a decent existing signal to work with. If the garden room is too far out or the signal is being blocked by thick walls, you may find performance drops off."

I've been reviewing home cinema projectors for many years now, but it really doesn't feel like it was that long ago since we'd have to huddle around one in a darkened room if we expected any sort of image quality. They've always been impressive, but only in low ambient lighting conditions. But nowadays the discussion has changed, when it comes to high-end projectors. We've come so far in their development that an important consideration isn't just whether they work in a brightly-lit room, but how well they work. It's largely thanks to recent innovations such as dual LED projection, and triple laser technology - and this powerful hybridisation in technology is a standout feature of one of the newest kids on the block - the Dangbei MP1 Max. The MP1 Max is a hefty thing, but its carry case and clever stand make it easy to take away with you | Dangbei Dangbei is a firm I've come to know quite well over the years, and their specialisms lie in the smaller portable tech, rather than the massive short-throw monsters. And it's remarkable to see how much projection power they can squeeze out of a projector that's so compact you could plausibly take on holiday with you. The projector in my testing room this week is Dangbei's latest launch. It's a 4K hybrid laser system that sits on a really smart stand which lets it elegantly rotate through 360 degrees, as well as pivot up and down until it points at the ceiling. It's a bit of a beast, truth be told, but it comes with a lovely polystyrene carry case, and it won't take up too much space on a desk or a picnic table. A Bluetooth remote control means you don't have to point the remote at the projector | Dangbei That dual LED system, coupled with the triple laser technology, makes for some serious brightness. It has a few rivals, but it's very much at the top end of the scale with an output of 3,100 ISO Lumens. It's more than enough for a twilight movie under the stars, and it handles a crisp output in a daylight room very well. As with any projector, it's at its best in low light, and this is when you start to see the technology that's baked in really shine through, pardon the expression. It has an ultra-wide colour gamut, which enhances the accuracy of the tones on the screen. This makes it great for animated films and games, and there's a blue light filter which makes it less stressful over long periods. Two HDMI inputs and a 3.5mm audio jack make it very versatile | Dangbei Any high-end 4K projector on sale these days needs to have HDR 10+, Dolby Audio, and DTS Virtual:X, and the MP1 Max has these ticked off. It's also 3D capable, but that's not something that's entirely easy to exploit in the UK. There are two 12 watt speakers built in, which give a nice, deep rumble, and plenty of definition. Audiophiles might want to add in their own setup, but it's easy to do. Watching on the go, though, is still quite the pleasure, because the stereo separation is lovely, and the immersion is impressive. Of course, it has Google TV built in, and it's easy to plug in peripherals. It also has a Bluetooth remote control, and there's a very clever AI setup which uses sensors on the front to ensure your output is always straight and true. 3D capability is a neat touch, and you get free glasses on Amazon at the moment - but it's a struggle to find content in the UK | Dangbei Complaints? It's actually hard to pick fault with it, to be honest. I have had projectors in my house with better sound output, when all's said and done, but it's by no means weedy. It's also a bit noisy in "high performance" mode, in which the brightness is turned right up to the max. This, however, isn't really all that necessary, especially indoors, and it runs fine on standard mode. There's also a custom mode which is worth exploring once you're used to everything. It's a bit of a minefield, but anyone who's fussy about colour reproduction and skin tones and all that jazz will enjoy a play. It is a little pricey, too. At the moment you can get one on Amazon for £1,599 - but it's quite a sweet deal, because you'll get a free ceiling mount and a pair of 3D glasses. And if you're baulking at that price for a 4K laser projector that can fill a 300" screen and pump out 3,100 Lumens, you're really not the target customer anyway.

The said camera focuses down my drive onto the back door, has a fixed view (ie non pannable)and has to be taken inside every three months ago to recharge, as it's not compatible with any solar device. But time and cameras move on and, while my nigh-on decade-old device still works perfectly, its battery is probably nearing the end of life and it can now enjoy a quieter, sedate life used inside the home and hard wired, no longer battered by the harsh Yorkshire elements. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad That's because its big brother replacement and one of EZVIZ's latest behemoths in the surveillance world, the CB90, now takes pride of place on my house's side wall, solving all of my problems in one fell swoop with its two 'eyes' on the prize. The CB90 and solar panel This is a premium dual-lens battery-powered security camera designed for comprehensive home surveillance and all round protection. Featuring panoramic and whole-picture vision, it provides both wide-angle coverage and zoomed-in details. With dual rotations and co-detection smart tracking, it enhances monitoring flexibility. So now my drive is covered back door-wise by one of the camera's lenses, while the one below is trained up my drive, taking in my parked car and the street. And no more leaning out of my upstairs side window every quarter to grab the device for indoor charging, given that the included 8W solar panel is now doing the job for me. The CB90's 10,400mAh rechargeable battery, powered by the solar panel, and weatherproof design seem to promise long-lasting, eco-friendly performance. Additional features include Wi-Fi 6 support and storage options with EZVIZ CloudPlay or, if you're like me, via a microSD (up to up 512GB). For new EZVIZ users, it's simply a case of downloading the EZVIZ app from the Play/Apple store and on the home page click on the big '+' sign to add a new device. A few moments later hey presto, your camera is up and running. It's always best to get this done first, and then test site your camera in a place where it can connect to your wifi, though in my experience the outdoor battery cameras have always worked wherever sited on my semi-detached's three walls. Keep your camera handy as,like with many eco-conscious manufacturers these days, there is no paper manual included in the kit. Instead, there's a QR code to scan and download it yourself. EZVIZ CB90 Many battery cameras on the market only record very limited footage triggered by detections, as the cameras tend to operate in sleep mode to conserve energy. Many brands eliminate the option for continuous recording as it can quickly drain the battery. The CB90 however can combat any security void by embedding the EZVIZ AOV Technology in its chips. In AOV mode, the cameras wake themselves at user-defined intervals, creating time-lapse videos for motion-free periods. Users can fast-forward to relive the changes in the monitored environment, without going through large video files that take up huge storage space. It will also significantly reduce the battery consumption compared to the traditional 24/7 recording mode. Furthermore, the AOV technology greatly extends the detection range, going beyond the limits of PIR sensors, which is commonly used in most industry-standard battery cameras. The dual lens camera means you can have two lenses trained in opposite directions For people who appear during an AOV time-lapse recording period, the cameras can pick up any activity up to 25m away, sending alerts and switching to standard-speed recording to ensure no moment is missed. The camera is equipped with a rechargeable battery with a capacity of up to 10,400 mAh enabling it to maintain a stable working condition, in any mode, for an extended period. Even in winter, the large battery ensures the camera operates up to 120 days uninterrupted. The solar panel is able to utilise two hours of instant and continuous charging by sunlight to keep a camera running non-stop for approximately 24 hours.
