Best Prime Day deals for summer travel — save up to 50% on Samsonite luggage, Kindles and more

Tom's Guide03-07-2025
Summer vacations are always exciting — but it's no secret that packing for them can be a total hassle. Fortunately, Prime Day is slashing the prices on tons of travel items to make your life (and your travels) easier.
As someone who travels often, I much prefer the destination over the journey. However, I've found a few items on Amazon to help make the trip there a bit more tolerable — and they're on sale from just $9.
From packing cubes that will add extra space in your luggage to a sleep mask that will have you catching Z's on the plane, I've rounded up my favorite travel deals that I recommend shopping for a hassle-free journey.
For more ways to save, check out our live coverage of the best 4th of July sales and our Amazon promo code guide.
If you need an easy way to pack your skincare and makeup while you travel, this is the solution. Sturdier and more leakproof than Ziplock, these waterproof toiletry bags are the perfect packing companion (and peace of mind that your liquids won't leak all over your belongings while traveling).
A bunch of us here at Tom's Guide, including myself, own this charger and love it. Sure, it tends to go on sale often and we recommend it each time because it's so light, portable, and convenient. It's an amazing buy if you find yourself running out of juice when you're out or just want peace of mind when traveling.
The MZOO sleep mask is an Amazon best seller sporting over 73,500 perfect reviews from customers who give it the "night shifter seal of approval", and say it provides 100% darkness while the pressure it puts on the eyes is "just perfect". "Finally, a comfortable mask," another writes. With a generous 31% off in Amazon's limited time deal, you can save $6 on this sleep mask to see you through your summer flights with more $$$ to spend on snacks onboard. It'll be delivered for free and you're entitled to 30 day returns.
If you're willing to live without active noise-cancellation, these Soundcore by Anker P20i buds are fantastic value for money. Offering 10mm drivers for impressive "big" bass, along with Bluetooth 5.3, 30-hour battery life, water-resistance, 22 preset EQs and in-app customisation, which is great for this price.
An ideal travel backpack when you want to bring your laptop on the go, this half-price bag comes in a huge array of color options, and has a USB charger so you can keep your phone powered while you're out and about. It's also made of water-resistant material.
This stylish, roomy tumbler is perfect for everyday adventures. Designed to fit in a car cup holder, you'll be able to take it with you everywhere and it can keep your drinks hot or cold for hours thanks to its double walled insulation. The advanced FlowState lid can move between closed to prevent splashes, straw and an opening to sip from.
You might recognize these packing cubes from TikTok. These compression travel cubes are kind of like how a vacuum sealer works. By adding an extra zipper around the outside, the cubes can be zipped up to help squash clothes and create more room in your suitcase. This 6-pack is backed by 8,800-plus positive reviews, which note the quality zippers and fabric, range of size options, and pack down.
Nothing stresses me out more than having to check luggage, but when I'm going on a trip for more than a few days, it's unlikely I'll be able to fit everything in my carry-on. An Apple Air Tag, however, would at least enable me to keep tabs on where my suitcase ends up. It will give you some peace of mind while traveling.
Depending on where you're headed, you might have a lot of spare time as you go from A to B. For long distances, having a Kindle by your side instead of cumbersome books is a perfect way to travel light. The new Kindle Paperwhite improves on its predecessor's already amazing design and features an improved battery life, faster performance and bigger display. The bundle also comes with a case and a wireless charging dock to last longer on your trip.
Having a reliable set of luggage is a must on your next trip. And whether you're checking a bag, bringing a carry-on or both, this set of expandable luggage will get the job done. It includes a spinner and carry-on and will be your trusty travel sidekicks. The luggage is extremely light, has a durable shell and the double spinner wheels allow you to roll the suitcase easily.
The AirPods Max are Apple's premium, retro-style headphones. They feature large ear cushions, a digital crown, active noise cancellation, and Spatial Audio. The latter feature uses head tracking to offer a surround sound experience. In our AirPods Max review, we said the 'phones offer exceptional noise-cancelling, a luxurious design, and sophisticated soundstage.

Grandma Boards Plane for 'Dream' Trip—Tears at Flight Announcement Surprise

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video about an 87-year-old woman who finally made it to Hawaii—a trip she had long dreamed of taking with her late husband—surrounded by eight of her 16 grandchildren has captivated viewers on TikTok. The clip shared by Britney Lindgren (@hejmammabat) has racked up more than 6.4 million views since it was posted on July 26. Filmed on a July 17 flight from Phoenix, Arizona, to Honolulu, Hawaii, it shows a smiling grandmother receiving a special in-flight announcement from crew members as her family celebrates the journey. "Grandma has always been close to all of us since we were babies. She helped take care of us all through our lives," Lindgren, 39, who lives in the Midwest and works for a radiology organization, told Newsweek. "This was grandma's first time to Hawaii. It was always a place she dreamed of going. She told us to go there with someone you loved and had hoped to go with her husband. He passed suddenly in 1996 before they could go." "We wanted to give a quick shoutout from a very grateful group of grandkids in rows 35, 36 and 37. Today, they are flying with a true VIP—their grandma," the crew member said. From 2000 to 2024, the grandmother took each of her grandchildren on a one-on-one trip after they finished eighth grade—"yup, 16 middle schoolers, 16 adventures," the attendant said, adding: "We're still not sure how she did it, but somehow she made every single trip unforgettable … so, now, it's her turn." The announcement closed with a message of gratitude: "Thank you for your love, your courage and your endless curiosity, for being our biggest fan, our favorite travel buddy and the queen of making travel memories. We love you, grandma." Research shows that grandparent-grandchild relationships can have tangible benefits for health and well-being. A 2015 study in Child Indicators Research found that grandparents can influence outcomes such as children's nutrition, mental health, and survival rates. It also reported that a strong grandparent-grandchild bond can help offset "the negative effects of having an emotionally distant relationship with parents." A 2018 study in Ageing International found that older adults engaged in grandparenting often "tended to perceive meaning in their lives and to exhibit relatively low levels of stress and depressive mood." 'I'm Sobbing' The caption accompanying the viral post read: "Grandma always said 'go to Hawaii with someone you love' and although she meant that at first because she didn't want to take 14 year olds there—I think 8 of her 16 grandchildren taking her to Hawaii counts." The TikTok video drew emotional responses from viewers. "Ok sobbing. May this kind of generational love chase me down and kidnap me," one user, Caitlin, commented. Another, @wowagabrielle, wrote: "'Queen of making memories' I'm sobbing." Others marveled at the grandmother's dedication over the years. "16 grandchildren. 16 individual trips! What a woman!" wrote @angiebazikian. Lisa Collins posted: "Now THIS is the type of airline announcement that I'm paying full attention to. What a woman!! Enjoy." User @kayla commented: "I hope she had the best trip ever." Do you have a travel-related video or story to share? Let us know via life@ and your story could be featured on Newsweek.

I Took My Kid on a Viking River Cruise. Here's What Happened.

Viking, the luxe international leader in river, expedition and ocean cruising, regularly advertises that guests don't encounter children, casinos or other over-the-top mega-ship features. The line's boats were designed with tranquil passenger comfort in mind and the onboard vibe exudes mature, refined elegance. I get it. It's not the sort of place you'd bring most teenagers. But a cruise along France's famed Seine River turned out to be an incredible get-away for me and my 18-year-old son. Here's how it worked for us, what we experienced, and why it might just be the perfect multi-gen vacation for your family. Editor's Note: The author and her son were hosted by Viking. Are you reader for another adventure? Let us guide you with our weekly newsletter! Sign up here. Technically, I didn't break any rules bringing my son aboard the gorgeous Viking Skaga: the cruise line considers anyone 18 or older an adult. However, given his age, we took a few steps to ensure he fit in just a bit better. My kid's wardrobe got a pre-trip glow-up. He left his t-shirts at home, swapping them out for polo shirts, light sweaters, and a smart hoodie for outdoor excursions. Khaki shorts replaced his typical joggers, and ball caps were reserved for exploring off the boat. When we were on the public areas of the ship, his phone and headphones were out of sight. This is not to say he didn't text friends back home, watch TikTok or listen to his favorite tunes. But when he did, he was in our room or on our verandah. Bottom line, he took care to dress well and show respect to the other passengers. It made a world of difference during our week onboard. During our 8-night Seine sail, food and drink offerings leaned heavily into the region's traditional cuisine. My son has always had a fairly adventurous palate, and during the cruise he sampled escargot, remoulades and rillettes with gusto. When he needed an American food fix, ordering a cheeseburger from the set menu was no big deal. Desserts were decadent, with French confections ending every meal. I skipped upgrading to the premium Silver Spirits alcohol package. Viking stipulates everyone in a cabin must be covered under the plan, and because my son is not of legal drinking age in the United States I didn't think it wise or necessary. However, complimentary house wine and beer is served with every lunch and dinner; we both enjoyed an occasional glass with meals. Suffice to say, we never went hungry onboard, the service was terrific, and we both came away with a better appreciation of French cooking techniques and dishes. Life on the Skaga was sweet and slow-paced. There was a small, well-stocked library and an area off the main lounge where we could play cards or board games on sail days. Each evening, we'd drift up to the top deck and grab settee seats to take in the sunset, the stars, and on one special night, Bastille Day fireworks before heading back to our spacious and comfortable stateroom. Perhaps the best onboard experience we had was the simplest: sitting on our veranda, looking out over the French countryside from the Seine, marveling at the swans and signets that routinely followed in our wake. Those quiet moments gave us a chance to slow down, relax, and truly enjoy each other's company. We had two full days to explore before leaving the dock, which gave us just a taste of what Paris had to offer. While a comprehensive full-day city tour is included in the cruise fare, we also braved The Louvre on our own to catch a glimpse of the enigmatic Mona Lisa and stopped for French cuisine at a cafe on the Ile de Saint Louis. In Vernon, we explored the small town's farmers' market and city square. Just a few miles away sat Giverny, where Monet created the watercolor works that cemented his legacy. My son and I walked through his dreamy gardens together, and spied his famous water lilies. We had a Game of Thrones thrill exploring Richard the Lionheart's 12th century castle in Les Andelys. Rouen was a charmer, with its half-timbered homes, ancient shops and striking monument to Joan of Arc, who was martyred there. But the most moving experience, hands down, was our trip to the Normandy Beaches. There, my son looked out over the waves where his great-grandfather came ashore on D-Day. We learned more about what he likely encountered and the miracle of his survival. It was a somber, reflective day neither of us will ever forget. Being on a small ship for more than a week forced my son to make connections with nearly 200 complete strangers, including the captains, crew members and staff who kept things running smoothly, and the passengers with whom we shared meals and excursions. At first, we were a bit of a novelty. We got occasional sideways looks, as if to say "What the heck is that kid doing here?" The first couple of dinners were a bit awkward, getting to know older adults and keeping up lively conversation. But my son rose to the occasion every time. He listened more than he spoke, asked thoughtful questions of our new friends, and shared a few laughs with them, too. The engagement was special for everyone involved. I do think the passengers enjoyed spending a bit of time with my son, and the feeling was certainly mutual for him. By the end of the cruise, it was as if he'd acquired dozens of new grandparents; I traded a teen for a fine young man. To be fair, this sort of vacation would not be ideal for every young adult and their family. If your idea of an ideal multi-gen vacation includes lounging for hours beachside, an unlimited buffet, or hitting a huge amusement park, a European river cruise probably isn't your best option. Indeed, at times our cruise felt more like a hands-on history lesson than a holiday. But that's why it was perfect for us, and an excellent choice for any family that includes curious individuals, no matter their age. The places we visited, the insights from our guides, and the real-life experiences we had in France taught both my son and me, bringing us closer in the process. When a family learns together, it grows together, and that was the true gift of this unlikely adventure. The post I Took My Kid on a Viking River Cruise. Amazon Is Clearing Out TP-Link Portable WiFi 6 Travel Router for Peanuts, With Limited Stock Available

Hotel Wi Fi has a funny way of stealing time. You unpack, you sit down, and suddenly you are digging for a password you took a photo of three trips ago. Your phone signs in. The laptop pouts. The streaming stick gives up. The TP Link Ultra Portable Wi Fi 6 AX1500 Travel Router is the little fixer that keeps the evening from spiraling. It lives in the same pouch as your chargers, plugs in quietly, and gives every device the same friendly network to join without rolling the dice on another hotel portal. Head over to Amazon to get the TP-Link Ultra-Portable Wi-Fi 6 AX1500 Travel Router for just $40, down from its usual price of $70. That's a discount of $30 and 43% off. See at Amazon Set up feels more like turning on a lamp than 'building a network.' Power it with a phone charger or a small battery pack, give it the room's connection, and handle the sign in page once. After that, your stuff recognizes the name and hops on without drama. Next trip, it is the same story. You open the lid on a laptop, and the connection just appears. No extra codes. No picking which two gadgets get internet tonight. Daily life perks show up fast. A private network keeps devices talking nicely to each other, so tossing photos from a phone to a tablet is easy and screen mirroring actually works. Video calls stop wobbling when someone else checks the score, and the little streaming stick finally behaves like it is at home. If the room does not have Ethernet, the router can repeat the building's wireless and nudge the signal toward the couch where you actually sit. It weighs about as much as a granola bar, disappears in a side pocket, and sips power. Control stays friendly. A simple app lets you peek at what is connected, change the password to something you will remember, or spin up a short guest network for a roommate. Prefer to set it and forget it. Leave the defaults alone and it keeps the peace in the background. Honest note. It will not turn a weak pipe into fiber, and it is built for rooms and small spaces, not an entire house. Used as a travel helper, it earns its spot the first time a portal goes flaky. If you are done with the login whack a mole game, this tiny router brings back a little calm. The TP-Link Ultra-Portable Wi-Fi 6 AX1500 Travel Router is still available for $40 at Amazon, down from the regular $70 price. See at Amazon
