Hong Kong riders claim treble solo bronze as National Games test event gets under way
Home favourites Ceci Lee Sze-wing, Mow Ching-yin and To Cheuk-hei claimed bronze medals on the opening day of the Hong Kong International Track Cup on Saturday.

The three-day meeting is doubling as a National Games test event, and there was a notable police and security presence inside and outside Hong Kong Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O.
A hardy core of around 150 fans showed up to watch the action, which unfolded on a day when Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu hosted Gao Zhidan, director of the General Administration of Sport of China, at his official residence to exchange views on preparations for the Games.
Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, also attended the meeting at Government House, during which Lee said his government would continue to conduct test events to ensure the city's readiness.
On the track, Lee, Mow and To delivered performances that ignited optimism for November's competition, while the city's women's and men's sprint teams won silver and bronze, respectively.

'They all showed fighting spirit, which I loved,' said head coach Hervé Dagorne. 'You could see Ceci and Ching-yin chasing points, so that's positive.'

2025 National Games: real-name ticket system may be used, Hong Kong office says
Hong Kong's coordination office for the National Games is studying whether to adopt a real-name system for tickets at prices ranging from a few dozen Hong Kong dollars up to about HK$500 (US$64). Yeung Tak-keung, head of the National Games Coordination Office, said on Saturday that tickets would be sold from August on a unified platform for events to be held in the city, Macau and Guangdong province in November. 'It is estimated that the ticket prices will range from a few dozen dollars to about HK$500 at most, depending on the event, such as the preliminary or final round, and also the number of seats,' he said on a televised programme. 'We will try our best to set the ticket price to a level that is acceptable to all residents.' Yeung said the local office was discussing ticketing details with authorities from Macau and Guangdong, including whether a real-name system would be used as well as other measures to combat scalpers. 'Whether the tickets could be transferred, whether to use a real-name system and how to crack down on scalpers will all be carefully considered,' he said, adding that more details would be released later.

In order to build a bigger economic driver and make better use of Kai Tak Stadium, Hong Kong should aim to have more annual events, according to New People's Party lawmaker Dominic Lee. Lee, who sits on a government tourism committee, told RTHK's Backchat programme that concerts from groups like K-pop sensation Blackpink next year are great, but annual events like the Rugby Sevens have more of an economic impact. "One of the suggestions I recommended to the government is that we've got to have annual good because people [then] have expectations, they will actually set aside their schedule to come to Hong Kong," Lee said. Lee said the government needs to be more proactive in organising events, rather than leaving it up to the market. "The government has to be a little more supportive and actually assist organisers to actually secure these annual events to be held in Hong Kong because it's good for Hong Kong's economy." Lee's remarks follow a football match at Kai Tak Stadium on Tuesday, which saw Hong Kong, China clinch a 1-0 victory over India in front of a sold out crowd, in their first home game at the new venue. Affordable tickets for the match played a big part in its success, according to Lee. "Kai Tak Stadium is not a stadium for only the wealthy people, it's a stadium for the Hong Kong people, irrespective of demographic, age or walk of life," he said. Lee also said the new stadium, with its large capacity, frees up other venues for lesser known artists. "In the past, really popular singers will do their concerts at Hong Kong Stadium and they'll take up like 20 days, because they can sell out 20 days. So now they're moving to a bigger stadium and it really frees up a lot of other venues as well."
