In two separate incidents, domestic workers were arrested for stealing gold and cash from their employers' homes in Bengaluru. In the first case, reported at, a maid stole 48.62 grams of gold ornaments and Rs.3.86 lakh in cash, valued at Rs.8.47 lakh, from a house in Banashankari 3rd Phase. Police recovered the stolen items from her house and a nearby jewellery shop.In the second case under the HAL Police Station, a maid was arrested for house robbery after allegedly using a duplicate key to steal gold while the family was away. 128 grams of gold jewellery, worth Rs.12 lakh, was found hidden in the trunk of her two-wheeler. Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody.A car driver was arrested by Vyalikaval Police for allegedly stealing Rs.1.51 crore in cash entrusted to him for tax payment by his employer, a chartered accountant based in Kodandaraipura. The complaint was filed on May 6, after the driver failed to deposit the money in the car as instructed and went missing.The accused has been identified as Rajesh (45). According to police, instead of keeping the amount in the vehicle, the driver hid the cash in his two-wheeler and fled. Based on the investigation, a notice was issued to the accused, who appeared before police on May 9. During questioning, he confessed to the theft and revealed that the stolen cash was kept at his residence near the TTD temple.Police later recovered Rs.1.4 crore in cash and a two-wheeler used in the crime. The case has been successfully solved by the Vyalikaval Police.

Dino Morea Summoned By ED In Rs 65 Crore Mithi River Desilting Scam
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Bollywood actor Dino Morea and asked him to appear next week. He has been summoned in connection with the Rs 65 crore Mithi river desilting case, ED officials said. On Friday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at fifteen locations in the Mithi river desilting case, including at actor Dino Morea's home in Mumbai. The raid comes days after the actor appeared before the Mumbai Police for questioning in a corruption case. His brother was also questioned by the raids were carried out across Mumbai and Kochi under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at locations linked to contractors and officials suspected of embezzlement in the desilting operations of the Mithi River. The case involves accusations of alleged inflated bills, fake work logs, and systematic diversion of public funds sanctioned for flood prevention and drainage maintenance in Mumbai. In response, the BMC and other civic agencies initiated regular desilting and cleaning operations to prevent future flooding. However, audits and investigations by agencies in recent years exposed glaring discrepancies in the actual versus reported desilting work, raising serious concerns about corruption. Earlier inquiries by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had flagged possible financial misconduct. The ED stepped in after taking cognizance of these reports and registered a money laundering case to trace the proceeds of crime. The ED suspects that a network of contractors and middlemen submitted fraudulent work completion reports and siphoned off funds meant for critical infrastructure development.

Cops nab 2 in drug bust at Panaji, Mandrem
Panaji: Goa police on Saturday arrested two individuals in separate narcotic cases at Panaji and Mandrem police stations and seized drugs worth Rs 1 lakh. 'During the narcotic raid at Campal, 27-year-old Yuraj Karde, resident of Betim, was caught red-handed in illegal possession of suspected ganja weighing 1kg, worth Rs 1 lakh in the international market,' SP North Rahul Gupta said. 'The contraband was seized, and further investigation is under way,' Gupta said. 'In the Mandrem case, 33-year-old Kerala native Afsal Puthiyaveettil was arrested. During interrogation, Puthiyaveettil disclosed that he purchased the contraband from Shabeel K V of Kannur, Kerala,' he said. Gupta said that call logs revealed regular communication and monetary transactions between Afsal and Shabeel, indicating Shabeel's role in the drug trafficking. Shabeel was arrested in Frazer Town, Bangalore, and brought to the police station after due legal procedures, he said.

Hydroponic weeds worth Rs 3 crore seized from woman passenger at Coimbatore airport
COIMBATORE: The air intelligence unit (AIU) of the customs department seized 3.155 kg of hydroponic weed from a woman passenger who arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport from Bangkok in Thailand via Singapore on a Scoot Airlines flight on Friday night. The AIU received a tip-off about smuggling of hydroponic weed (ganja grown in a water-based and nutrient-rich solution, instead of in soil) to Coimbatore International Airport. The Scoot Airlines flight landed here around 11.16 pm, and AIU officers began checking the baggage of the passengers. A woman passenger hailing from Kerala had six packets of chips in her luggage. The officials opened the packets and found 3.155 kg of hydroponic weed valued at around Rs 3 crore. The officials arrested her. Sources said the woman told the officials that someone had placed the packets in her luggage and she was not aware of the hydroponic weed. Last month, the AIU team seized 5.25 kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 5 crore from a passenger at the airport here. Many carriers have started smuggling contrabands from Bangkok to the Coimbatore International Airport or the Trichy International Airport via Singapore.
