Seattle police investigate officer-involved shooting in Belltown

SEATTLE - Police are investigating a shooting involving an officer in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood.
What they're saying
According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), the incident happened at 3rd Avenue and Battery Street at around 12:20 p.m.
In a press conference, SPD Chief Shon Barnes said that two officers on the department's bike team were conducting active patrols in the Belltown neighborhood. During the patrol, officers observed a person selling narcotics on the street. Based on their observations, they developed probable cause to arrest him.
When officers approached, the man ran away toward 3rd Avenue. The pursuit continued along 3rd Avenue, and the suspect pointed a handgun at officers. The officers took cover and continued their pursuit.
The suspect then pointed his gun a second time, and one of the officers fired multiple shots.
The suspect dropped his weapon, surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.
According to Chief Barnes, no one was injured in the shooting.
As standard protocol, the officer will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
At the time, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) issued an alert stating that both northbound and southbound lanes of 3rd Avenue between Cedar Street and Bell Street were blocked due to police activity.
Traffic officials urged the public to use alternate routes.

Woman dead, 2 injured, following fatal shooting in Suffolk: Police
SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Suffolk Police (SPD) is actively looking for an individual in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred around 1:35 a.m. Saturday on the 5600 block of Shoulders Hill Road. When officers arrived they found a woman dead on the scene. Police also found two other individuals with non life-threatening injuries as a result of a gunshot wound. Those individuals were transported to a local hospital. SPD identified 35-year-old Derrick Dontre Corbett as the suspect and charged him with: Murder Two counts of attempted murder Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon Six counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony And three counts of shoot/cut/stab in the commission of a felony. Through phone calls, mailers and high-profile endorsements, the candidates vying to become Gulfport's next mayor are making a final push to lure voters this week at the end of what has become an intense and high-stakes campaign. In a rally on Friday headlined by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Republican leaders spoke in urgent terms about a race they called tight and too important to lose. 'This will take the extra-mile effort,' Scott said from a private hangar at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. How the city votes, he added, 'is going to be a sign for Mississippi.' Scott, who was once floated as a possible running mate to President Donald Trump, appeared Friday on behalf of Republican mayoral candidate Hugh Keating. He spoke alongside U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell and outgoing Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes. The rally came during a tense week of the campaign: Mississippi's Republican Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced an investigation on Wednesday into Democratic candidate Sonya Williams Barnes after Republicans accused some locals of giving restaurant vouchers to voters in what the party calls a violation of state law.
