SP explains significance of Civil Rights Day
Nallamada: On Civil Rights Day, Sri Sathya Sai District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mrs. V. Ratna, IPS, emphasized that every citizen has the constitutional right to live freely and equally in society. She called for greater awareness of legal rights and encouraged citizens to seek justice through lawful means if their rights are violated. The Civil Rights Day event was held at the premises of the village secretariat in Nallamada with participation from people of all communities. SP Ratna attended as the chief guest and addressed the gathering.
She noted that in Sri Sathya Sai District, Civil Rights Day is regularly observed in coordination with officials from all departments to promote awareness among the public. SP Ratna also pointed out that there are strict laws in place to protect women and children from indecent behavior and explained the importance of SC/ST laws. She outlined the compensations provided by the government to victims under such legislations. She guided women and children on how to safeguard themselves and recommended downloading the Shakti App to enhance personal safety.
The event also included speeches from officials who urged the public to make good use of the constitutional rights and raised awareness about the negative consequences of child marriages. Later, SP Ratna conducted an inspection of the Nallamada Police Station. Other attendees included DSP Vijay Kumar, CI Narender Reddy, SB SI Pradeep Kumar, Sarpanch Bharati, Deputy Tahsildar Sunitha, Superintendent Srinivasa Reddy, SI Mallikarjuna Reddy, and members of the SC/ST Vigilance Monitoring Committee including Narayana, along with people from various communities.

Tight security for Bakrid celebrations
Rajamahendravaram: In view of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) festival on Saturday, elaborate security arrangements have been made across the district, particularly at major mosques and Eidgahs, said District Superintendent of Police D Narasimh Kishore. Speaking after a coordination meeting with religious leaders on Friday, the SP stressed the need to uphold communal harmony and urged everyone to cooperate in maintaining law and order. Stating that special surveillance through solar-powered cameras and drones will be deployed, he assured that the police are fully prepared to ensure the festival is celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere. 'Muslims should celebrate Bakrid joyfully with their families,' he wished. Any attempt to disturb harmony through provocative speeches or objectionable posts on social media will invite strict legal action, he warned. The SP further clarified that illegal transportation of animals will not be tolerated. 'We are strictly implementing the directives of the High Court regarding cow slaughter. Any violation of these orders will lead to severe consequences,' he stated. He also mentioned that nodal officers have been instructed to promptly respond to complaints and enforce the Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act-1977, Animal Transport Rules-1978, The Animal Transport (Amendment) Rules-2001 and Slaughter House Rules-2001. Citizens are encouraged to report any information related to cow slaughter or illegal transport of cattle by calling 112. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, the SP assured.

Anticipatory bail not to be given mechanically: SC
NEW DELHI: Anticipatory bail in cases involving serious offences should not be given in a mechanical manner, the Supreme Court has said. A three-judge bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Mehta made the observation while setting aside an order of anticipatory bail to four accused persons in a murder case. Observing that the Patna HC had 'clearly failed' to appreciate the gravity and nature of the allegations in the case, the court directed that the accused should surrender within eight weeks. The SC passed the order on hearing an appeal filed by the victim's son challenging the order granting these four persons the anticipatory bail. 'The order of the High Court (Patna) does not disclose any reasoning for granting anticipatory bail in a matter involving serious offences under Sections 302 (Murder) and 307 (Attempt to Murder) of the IPC,' said the bench.

Today in Politics: All eyes on INDIA bloc as it looks to fill gap with NCP(SP) over special session demand
Cracks seem to be appearing between one main constituent of the Opposition INDIA bloc and the others over the demand for a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor. Interesting to see would be how the Opposition alliance mends the differences. On Friday, NCP(SP) Baramati MP Supriya Sule, who was a apart of one of the all-party delegations who went abroad to put forward India's stand in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, told The Indian Express that the Congress had approached her to join the bandwagon in demanding a special session of Parliament over the issue but she had refused saying that it was a time to be united and not play 'petty politics'. 'While I was abroad as a part of the delegation, the Congress contacted me. I said I cannot join them as I am away and told them to wait till all the delegations return. I told them, let's have a meeting and decide after I return, but it happened before I returned. That is why I could not sign the letter to the Prime Minister,' Sule told The Indian Express. Sule's remarks come close on the heels of 16 Opposition parties writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session, saying 'there are serious questions facing the nation about the terror attack, killing of civilians in Poonch, Uri and Rajouri, the ceasefire announcements, and the implications on our national security and foreign policy'. The NCP(SP) was not a signatory. They also come amid the rising 'closeness' between NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar and his estranged nephew and NCP chief Ajit Pawar. In the recent past, the two leaders have been seen sharing the stage at multiple events. Earlier, the senior Pawar, who has served as the Union Defence Minister, had categorically said that his party would not demand a special session of Parliament over Operation Sindoor as 'some things were not meant to be discussed in public'. On the other hand, Sule said the country comes first and India must send a message to the world that we are united against any terror attack. 'Pawar sahab had made it very clear. We were expecting that when the July session comes, hopefully everything will be settled by then, then we can definitely debate it. Because in a vibrant democracy, every issue must be debated, but there has to be a right time for it.' Sule said her party would 'definitely ask' the government questions during the Monsoon session. 'Of course, I think India will ask questions, not just the NCP (SP). India will ask questions. India wants to know a lot of answers. It is not just about the NCP (SP), India wants to know.' UK foreign secretary to visit India Aiming to further strengthen UK-India ties, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy will be on a two-day India visit starting Friday.
