Donald Trump
said on Monday that Hamas was unlikely to release the hostages without a change in circumstances, but declined fully to endorse Israel's plan to attack and occupy Gaza City.
He maintained that securing the hostages was always going to be 'very rough to get them,' stressing that Hamas 'are not going to let the hostages out in the current situation,' Trump was quoted as saying by Axios.
Trump said it was up to Israel to decide its next steps and determine whether Hamas should remain in Gaza, but added that, in his view, 'they can't stay there."
"I have one thing to say: remember October 7, remember October 7," he said, referring to Hamas's October 7 attack, reported Axios.
He also appeared to align with the stance that increasing military pressure on Hamas is necessary.
The US president called his Sunday conversation with
Netanyahu
, which covered the Gaza City operation, a 'good call.'
Netanyahu's office said that during Sunday's call, they 'discussed Israel's plans to take control of the remaining Hamas strongholds in Gaza to end the war through the release of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas.'

A senior Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Monday for discussions with Egyptian intelligence officials on potentially resuming negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage agreement. The group had left Qatar for Turkey two weeks before the talks broke down, reported Axios.
Netanyahu will now only seek a deal with Hamas that secures the release of all remaining hostages.
'The prime minister would be willing to hold negotiations [for a deal] under conditions that we set for ending the war, and only if all the hostages were to be returned. Until then, we will not participate whatsoever in negotiations,' an unknown source was quoted as saying by Channel 12.
A new military plan by the Israeli security cabinet has been approved for the complete takeover of Gaza City. 'We are not going to occupy Gaza, we are going to free Gaza from Hamas," Netanyahu said through a post on X.

Russia to test new missile capable of unlimited range, said to be world's 'most powerful' and 'invincible'; name is..., Europe is scared as...

New Delhi: The much-awaited meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will be held in Alaska, USA, on 15 August to discuss the Ukraine issue. However, some of Trump's statements about Russia right before the proposed meeting can increase bitterness between the two countries. What did Trump say about Russia? Donald Trump has described Russia's economy as being in crisis, adding that this is why he received a call from Putin for a meeting. In such a situation, Russia has also started preparations to show its military power. There are reports that Russia is preparing for new tests of 9M730 Burevestnik, one of the world's most powerful nuclear-powered cruise missiles. What is the importance of the Burevestnik missile for Russia? Military experts say that if the test of 9M730 Burevestnik is successful, Russia will become the first country in the world to have a cruise missile capable of carrying nuclear power and nuclear weapons. Its range will be unlimited. In such a situation, it will be able to easily attack any part of the Earth. According to Defense Romania, 'There are indications that Russia is going to conduct a new test of its controversial nuclear-powered cruise missile 9M730 Burevestnik (NATO code: SSC-X-9 Skyfall) from the Pankovo range of the Arctic archipelago Novaya Zemlya.' Russia has issued NOTAM Russia has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) warning covering 40,000 square kilometers of Novaya Zemlya from August 7 to August 12. In addition, at least four Russian ships, which were previously anchored near the Pankovo missile testing range, have been deployed at surveillance posts in the eastern Barents Sea. This is a standard security measure taken during any major missile test. How powerful is the 9M730 Burevestnik missile? Burevestnik is a revolutionary missile of its kind. Its special feature is its ability to fly on nuclear power and carry out nuclear attacks. This gives the missile unlimited range and the ability to dodge the world's best air defense. Russian President Vladimir Putin has described it as an 'invincible' weapon. This missile can change its path whenever it wants. In such a situation, it can be very difficult for the enemy's air defense to stop it. According to the report of the US Air Force's National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), if this missile joins the Russian army, it will give Putin a unique strength.

Indus Waters Treaty: Pakistan urges for water amid nuclear threats; asks India to resume normal functioning of IWT

File photo/ANI Amid nuclear threats and war-related remarks by senior Pakistani leaders and its army chief Asim Munir, Islamabad has urged India to restart the "normal functioning" of the Indus Waters Treaty . New Delhi has kept the treaty in abeyance since May, after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan's foreign office said it is committed to the full implementation of the treaty and welcomed the interpretation of the Court of Arbitration on the matter. The request came after Pakistan's army chief, Asim Munir, issued a nuclear war warning and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto made statements calling for action over India's position on the water-sharing agreement. In a statement on Monday, Pakistan's foreign office said, "Pakistan is committed to the full implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty and also expects India to immediately resume the normal functioning of the treaty." It welcomed the interpretation related to the Indus Waters Treaty made by the Court of Arbitration on August 8. India has never recognised the proceedings at the Permanent Court of Arbitration, after Pakistan objected to certain design elements of two projects under the treaty. The Pakistan's foreign office claimed the award explains the design criteria for new run-of-river hydropower projects to be built by India on the Western Rivers — Chenab, Jhelum, and Indus. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo A day after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, India took several measures against Pakistan, including putting the Indus Waters Treaty in 'abeyance.' "Pakistan expects India to immediately resume the normal functioning of the Treaty," the foreign ministry said in a post on X. Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday said that India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty is an attack on the Indus Valley civilisation and culture. "The Indus Civilisation is connected to this river," he said, adding that an attack on the Indus River is an "attack on our civilisation, our history, and our culture." Meanwhile, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) issued a strong statement in response to remarks reportedly made by the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff during his visit to the United States. "Our attention has been drawn to remarks reportedly made by the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff while on a visit to the United States. Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's stock-in-trade," the MEA official spokesperson said.

The bill now awaits a presidential assent to become an act, which is not likely to take too long. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 15 Most Beautiful Women in the World Undo After this a gazette notification will be brought out by the government. Age and tenure cap The bill fixes the tenure limit at three consecutive terms adding up to 12 years for the posts of President, Secretary General and Treasurer in sports bodies. The age cap has been kept at 70, extending up to 75 at the time of nomination if permitted by the international charter and statutes of the concerned sport. Live Events The Executive Committee strength of a sports body has been capped at 15 to ensure that the financial burden on the federation is not high. The EC would be mandated to have at least two sportspersons of outstanding merit and four women in the ranks. The provision is in line with the international push to ensure gender parity in sports governance and make athletes a prominent stakeholder in decision-making process. National Sports Board The National Sports Board (NSB) will have overriding powers to grant or suspend recognition of all National Sports Federations (NSFs) and even "collaborate" with the international federations for athlete welfare. The NSB will comprise a chairperson, and its members will be appointed by the central government from "amongst persons of ability, integrity and standing." The appointments would be done based on the recommendations of a search- cum-selection committee, which would have the Cabinet Secretary or Secretary Sports as chairperson. The other members of this panel will be the Director General of the Sports Authority of India , two sports administrators who have each served as the President or Secretary General or Treasurer of a National Sports Body and one eminent sportsperson who is a Dronacharya, or Khel Ratna or Arjuna awardee. The Board has been empowered to de-recognise a national body that fails to hold elections for its Executive Committee or has committed "gross irregularities in the election procedures." In addition, failure to publish annual audited accounts or "misused, misapplied or misappropriated public funds" would also invite suspension from the NSB but it would be required to consult the concerned global body before proceeding. Only a recognised sports organisation will be eligible to receive grants or any other financial assistance from the central government. National Sports Tribunal According to the Sports Ministry, over 350 cases are currently in progress in various courts of the country over issues ranging from selection to election, significantly hampering the progress of athletes and NSFs. The setting up of a National Sports Tribunal promises to end that for good as it would have "all the powers of a civil court." It will comprise a chairperson and two other members. The head of the Tribunal would be a sitting or retired judge of the Supreme Court or the Chief Justice of a High Court. The appointments to this would also be in the hands of the central government based on recommendations of a committee that will be headed by Chief Justice of India or a Supreme Court judge recommended by the CJI and comprise the Sports Secretary and Secretary in the Ministry of Law and Justice. The central government will have the power to remove its members in case of violations, including financial irregularities and actions prejudicial to "public interest". The orders of this Tribunal would only be challengeable in the Supreme Court, which will ensure that no lower court would be involved in deciding disputes related to sports, making "jurisprudence stable and faster". The appeal will also have to be filed within 30 days of the tribunal's decision but the Supreme Court will have the authority to decide if a filing can be done on the expiry of the deadline. National Sports Election Panel This too shall be appointed by the central government on the recommendation of the National Sports Board. The panel will be made up of retired members of the Election Commission of India or the State Election Commission or retired Chief Electoral Officers of the States or Deputy Election Commissioners, with "adequate experience". The panel will act as "electoral officers" to oversee the conduct of free and fair elections to the Executive Committees and the Athletes Committee of the sports bodies. The Board shall maintain a roster of the National Sports Election Panel, in such manner as may be prescribed. RTI All recognised sports organisations, which are dependent on government funding and support, will be covered under the Right to Information Act, 2005 "with respect to the exercise of its functions, duties and powers." This ensures that the BCCI, which is not relying on ministry funding, will readily come under the bill's ambit. It will have to register itself as an NSF with the NSB as cricket is set to debut as an Olympic sport in the 2028 Games in the T20 format. Govt's discretionary powers Any sports organisation wanting to use the word "India" or "Indian" or "National" or any national insignia or symbols will have to obtain a No Objection Certificate from the central government. The central government, if it considers "necessary" and expedient in the public interest, will have also have the power to "relax" any of the provisions mentioned in the bill. In addition, the government can also give such directions to the National Sports Board or any other person or entity for the "efficient administration" of the provisions of this bill. The government will also be authorised to "impose reasonable restrictions on the participation of any national team of a concerned sport" under extraordinary circumstances and in the national interest.
