Israeli Druze storm border to aid Syrian kin — IDF steps in
ALBAWABA - On Friday, a new group of Israeli Druze tried to cross the border into Syria to help their family members as the violence in the Suwayda region got worse. The group was stopped by Israeli Border Police, who also increased security along the border.
Channel 14 in Israel says that the Israeli military has been working hard to keep people from getting into places in the Golan Heights that it controls without permission. Even though there was an announcement of a truce, things are still tense on the border, and fears of new fighting are growing.
The Israeli military admitted earlier that it wasn't ready for the latest waves of invasion. Among these were the crossings of about 1,000 Druze from Israel into Syria and smaller groups coming into Israel from Syria. A lot of people who came back were caught with guns, which shows how bad the security situation is.
Israeli media also said that the army has been helping Druze villages in Syria with logistics. This includes parachuting goods from the sky during activities at night, which is why Israeli planes are often seen after dark.
Even though there is a ceasefire, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are said to be sending medical supplies to the Druze in northern Golan and sending troops to the area to protect the land.

The IDF said they didn't do any airstrikes overnight in Syria, but they did say they had done air support operations in Suwayda in the past, which are said to have forced the Syrian government to pull its troops back. As a warning to Damascus, Israeli fighter jets are said to have attacked armored units and key military sites in the city, such as the presidential house, the Ministry of Defense, and the offices of the Syrian General Staff.
Both overt and hidden Israeli participation has caused a lot of debate, with some saying it breaks the terms of the truce. Still, Israel keeps saying that what it does is to protect Druze villages that are in danger across the border.

Israeli army says two soldiers killed in south Gaza
JERUSALEM — Two Israeli soldiers were killed in combat in southern Gaza on Sunday, the military said, a day after confirming another soldier had died of wounds sustained last week. "We have lost three young heroes, some of our finest , who gave their lives for the security of our state and the return of all our hostages," Defence Minister Israel Katz said on X. The two soldiers, aged 20 and 22, served in the Golani Infantry Brigade's 51st Battalion. Israeli military sources said they were killed when their armoured vehicle exploded in the city of Khan Yunis. Military correspondents from several Israeli media outlets said the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device detonated by a militant who emerged from a tunnel. An investigation was underway. The Israeli military says 462 soldiers have been killed since the start of its ground offensive in Gaza on October 27, 2023. The Israeli campaign has killed 59,733 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

Erdogan hails Macron for decision to recognise Palestinian state
ISTANBUL— Turkey's president on Sunday welcomed a move by his French counterpart to recognise Palestinian statehood, in a phone call between the two leaders, the Turkish presidency said. "During a telephone conversation, President Erdogan congratulated French President [Emmanuel] Macron on his decision to recognise Palestine as a state," it said in a statement. "A two-state solution is essential for a durable peace in the region," Erdogan said. Macron said Thursday that his country would formally recognise a Palestinian state during a UN meeting in September, the most powerful European nation to announce such a move. Macron's announcement drew condemnation from Israel, which said it "rewards terror", while US President Donald Trump dismissed the decision as pointless.

At least 35 killed in rebel attack in northeast DR Congo
BUNIA, DR Congo — At least 35 people were killed Sunday in an attack by Allied Democratic Forces rebels in northeastern DR Congo, ending a months-long period of regional calm, local sources told AFP. The ADF, originally formed from former Ugandan rebels and which pledged allegiance to Islamic State in 2019, raided a Catholic church in the town of Komanda where worshippers were gathered for prayer, residents told AFP by telephone from Bunia, capital of Ituri province. "Last night around 9 pm, we heard gunfire near the parish church... so far we have seen 35 bodies," Dieudonne Katanabo, an Umoja neighbourhood elder, told AFP. "We have at least 31 dead members of the Eucharistic Crusade movement, with six seriously injured... some young people were kidnapped, we have no news of them," Father Aime Lokana Dhego, parish priest of the Blessed Anuarite parish of Komanda, told AFP. The priest added that seven other bodies had been discovered in the town. Likewise attributing the attack to "ADF rebels", Christophe Munyanderu, coordinator of the local NGO Convention for the Respect of Human Rights, gave a provisional death toll of 38. Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, army spokesman in Ituri, did not comment on the toll but confirmed the attack to AFP, stating that "the enemy is believed to have been identified among ADF" rebels. The bloodshed comes after months of calm in the region of Ituri, bordering Uganda. The last major attack by the ADF was in February, leaving 23 dead in Mambasa territory. The town of Komanda in Irumu territory is a commercial hub linking three other provinces, Tshopo, North Kivu, and Maniema. The ADF, originally Ugandan rebels who are predominantly Muslim, has killed thousands of civilians and ramped up looting and killing in northeastern DRC despite the deployment both of the Ugandan army alongside Congolese armed forces in the area. At the end of 2021, Kampala and Kinshasa launched a joint military operation against the ADF, dubbed "Shujaa", which has so far been unable to dislodge the group.
