Look: Alexa Ray Joel supports ailing dad Billy: 'We love you and we got you'
May 25 (UPI) -- Singer Alexa Ray Joel posted a message on Instagram this weekend in support of her father, rock 'n' roll legend Billy Joel, who announced he is battling a brain disorder called normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Billy, 76, canceled 17 upcoming concerts while he undergoes treatment for the condition.
"We love you and we got you, Pop! I just wanted to thank you all for the beautiful outpouring of love and support amid the recent news of My Father's health diagnosis," Alexa Ray, 39, wrote Saturday.
"My Dad is the strongest and most resilient man I've ever known... and he's entirely committed to making a full recovery with ongoing physical-therapy treatments as he continues to regain his strength," she added. "The genuine care, empathy, and concern from everyone means so much to him... it means a lot to me, too. 'Someday We'll All Be Gone / But Lullabies Go On And On / They Never Die / That's How You And I Will Be.' The music continues... All My Love, Alexa Ray."
A documentary about Billy is set to open this year's Tribeca Film Festival in New York in June. It will later air on HBO.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer wrapped up his 10-year, monthly residency at MSG in 2024 after his career 150th performance at the venue.
Joel is known for hits like "Movin' Out," "My Life," "You May Be Right," "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant," "Only the Good Die Young," "Piano Man," "Uptown Girl," "Pressure" and "We Didn't Start the Fire."

Photo courtesy of Hallmark NEW YORK, June 7 (UPI) -- Sister Swap alum Ashley Williams and Hannah Swensen actress Alison Sweeney say they wanted to star in To Barcelona, With Love, and its sequel, To Barcelona, Forever, because the TV movies are about two very different women who find they bring out the best in each other. "Throughout the journey, they also change in different ways and then start to see themselves in each other, which is a really cool thing about our story I really love," Williams told UPI in a Zoom interview Thursday. Premiering on Hallmark Saturday, With Love brings American author Anna (Williams) to Barcelona, the only place in the world where her novel is being celebrated. Once there, she quickly learns that the book -- which she wrote having never visited Spain in real life -- is so popular because U.S. ex-pat and aspiring writer Erica (Sweeney) has beautifully translated it from English to Spanish and added her own thoughtful observations about the country and its people. "She's a little more embracing of this whole European lifestyle, but, also, really afraid to be who she is," she added. "She just kind of has settled for being the friend and translating other people's work and, then, through this series of events, she ends up kind of really needing to push herself and admit how she really feels." Her new friendship with Anna is integral to catapulting Erica out of a comfortable rut. "Anna is living out loud," Sweeney said. "She's just bright and big and has a big personality and is fun and a daredevil. She's a risk-taker and Erica is terrified of taking a risk. ... I think that's a really fun thing they learn about each other." Unaware that Erica is secretly in love with him, Nico (Alejandro Tous), an adorable book-store owner is bewitched by what he thinks is Anna's beautiful writing and enlists Erica's help to court her. Anna is charmed by Nico, too, and also depends on Erica to feed her all the right things to say to him in the tradition of the 19th-century, love-triangle drama, Cyrano de Bergerac, and its 1987 film adaptation, Roxanne, starring Steve Martin, Daryl Hannh and Rick Rossovich. "I was so in love with the idea of getting to kind of borrow the Cyrano idea and play it with Ashley and do the comedy of it," Sweeney said. "I can't tell you how thrilled I am with how it turned out. It makes me laugh every time," she added. "It was such a fun thing to twist it around the two women who are doing the Cyrano thing and then getting to play that kind of physical comedy actually was a dream come true." In addition to being hilarious, these scenes also show Erica and Anna supporting each other, Williams said. "It's: 'Hey, I have confession. I'm in over my head. You're the answer. Can you help me?'" she said. "Erica puts Anna's needs ahead of her own. Erica is deeply in love with this person [Nico], but her fear about coming to terms with that and her loyalty to this fellow female in need [influence her actions]," Williams said. "That is so flawed and so beautiful and something that I relate to as a person who just loves the women in my life more than anything." Williams said the spark for the movie came from an experience she had feeling like a failure about her own writing endeavors, while she was browsing the stacks of best-sellers at an airport newsstand. "I thought, 'Well, i'm such a bad writer that the only way that I would ever have a hit book is if I wrote a book and somebody who's actually a good writer translated it in another language and that became a good book,'" she recalled. "And I was like, 'What a complicated idea, but, also, a good idea for a movie." Williams pitched the concept to screenwriter Julie Sherman Wolfe. "She said, 'Well, we would need another Hallmark actress that spoke a different language,' and, right then, Ali Sweeney -- who I loved and had been friends with for years and always wanted to work with -- was walking by, and I said, 'Ali, do you speak a different language?' And she said, 'Spanish,' and I turned to Julie and I said, 'So, it's in Barcelona.'" The sequel, To Barcelona, Forever, picks up five months after the events of the first film and is set to air on Hallmark June 14. Ron Oliver directed both movies. Williams and Sweeney also have a podcast in which they discuss their adventures in Spain.

Billy Joel jokes about aging, cremation after brain disorder diagnosis
Legendary singer Billy Joel is remaining in good spirits despite his serious health battle. While Joel, 76, was notably absent from the premiere of his new documentary, "And So It Goes," due to his brain disorder diagnosis, he made sure to send fans a message. "Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey his greetings to you all," director Susan Lacy, along with Jessica Levin shared with the crowd at the Tribeca Film Festival, according to Variety. "He said 'getting old sucks, but it's still preferable to getting cremated', Joel said in his message to fans. "He will be back," Lacy added. As the "Piano Man" had been sidelined by his health, Joel made sure to send fans a message that was equal parts heartfelt and darkly humorous. It's the first public message from Joel since news broke of his brain disorder diagnosis. On May 23, Joel announced he was canceling all his shows since he'd been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which affects his vision, hearing and balance. According to Yale Medicine, it is a rare condition. NPH is a condition that happens when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain. This condition is most likely to occur in people over 65. Treating this condition involves surgery to implant a shunt to drain excess fluid from the inside of the skull, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The singer-songwriter took to his social media to share a statement with his fans. "This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance," it read in part. "Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health." Joel concluded, "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding." His wife, Alexis Roderick Joel, shared a statement with Fox News Digital. "Thank you for the outpouring of love and support. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received. Bill is beloved by many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future," she said.

'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' Meghan wrote in the caption of the adorable montage of the family's adventures. The whole group was at the amusement park for Lilibet's fourth birthday. Playing to Peggy Lee's song 'It's A Good Day,' the first clip showed a nervous Lilibet holding her mom's hand as she approached her hero, Elsa from Frozen. Lili was also gifted a Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake reading 'Happy Birthday Lili,' making it a day of Disney princesses for the royal one. The group could then be seen on various rides, including Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, Space Mountain, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and the King Arthur Carousel. Meghan shared a clip of just herself and Harry on the more demanding Rise of the Resistance, laughing and screaming together as they came down on the roller coaster. In a group shot, Meghan covered her kids' faces, but showed off her Minnie Mouse ears. Harry was kneeling by the two children and has his arm around Archie. Lili is barefoot and wearing a white dress covered in a colorful graphic bow pattern. Before the Disney party, Meghan celebrated Lili's fourth birthday with never-before-seen footage from the delivery room taken just ahead of her daughter's birth. In the clips, she and Harry are dancing together to help induce labor, because both Lili and Archie arrived past their due dates. 'Four years ago today, this also happened,' she wrote in the caption. 'Both of our children were a week past their due dates. So when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work—there was only one thing left to do! 😂.'
