Tennessee golf hires PGA TOUR winner
Tennessee men's golf announced the hiring of Derek Ernst as the Vols' associate head coach. He played on the PGA TOUR from 2012-24.
"I am very excited for Derek to begin his time here on Rocky Top," Tennessee head coach Brennan Webb said. "His experience playing and winning at the highest levels of professional golf, with the best players in the world, will be an incredible asset for the players in our program.
"Derek's contagious enthusiasm to pass on all he has learned to the players in our program struck me from our very first conversation. There really is no substitute for Derek's experience in our game and I can't wait for him to get started with the Vols."
Ernst (-8) won the 2013 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina. He defeated David Lynn in a playoff, while Phil Mickelson finished third (-7).
Ernst made 134 PGA TOUR starts and recorded five top 25 finishes.

Donald Trump-owned courses will host PGA Tour, LIV Golf tournaments next year
Donald Trump will be hosting events on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf for the first time in the same season in 2026. LIV Golf will return to Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C., in Sterling, Virginia, next year. The PGA Tour is expected to host an event at Trump National Doral, outside of Miami. LIV will return to Virginia for the second time with the 2026 event scheduled for May 8-10. The Saudi Arabia-backed tour has had at least one event on a course owned by the president every year since its inception in 2022. The Tour is expected to return to Doral in 2026, according to Sports Business Journal. The publication reported the event is expected to be April 27-May 3, three weeks after the Masters and two weeks before the PGA Championship. The tournament potentially will be a signature event with a $20 million purse. LIV is pulling out of Doral for 2026, the first time it will not hold a tournament at the course. The PGA Tour had a 54-year history at Doral before pulling out following the 2016 World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship and after losing its title sponsor. The move also came following then-presidential candidate Trump's discriminatory statements about Mexicans and Muslims, giving the Tour even more reason to separate itself from Trump. Scottie Scheffler savors Claret Jug celebrations
With 17 PGA Tour titles Scottie Scheffler's trophy room is plenty busy but adding the Claret Jug to the shelf following his victory last month at The Open Championship felt uniquely special. 'The Masters, you get the green jacket for a year and the Wanamaker [Trophy] is a big old trophy [for winning the PGA Championship] and then the Claret Jug is kind of the perfect size where you can just carry it around and sometimes people don't even really know you have it,' Scheffler said Wednesday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, his first start since winning at Royal Portrush. 'It's fun.' Given his history for understated celebrations, Scheffler's victory lap with the Claret Jug didn't seem to include the level of hijinks enjoyed by some previous Champion Golfers of the Year, but the world No. 1 did allow his most recent trophy to make the rounds at his home club in Dallas. 'We had a party two weeks ago at home with some of our friends, and everybody got to drink out of it. It was a lot of fun,' Scheffler said. 'I brought it up to Royal Oaks a couple times, my home course, and one afternoon I think [his wife] Meredith was getting a haircut or something, and I was resting and so I had [son] Bennett, and I took him to Royal Oaks. 'He whacked some golf balls around, and we hung out for a bit. I took him to the 19th hole with me, and I got some pretty funny pictures with Bennett sitting in the 19th hole at the men's only grill where I think you've got to be 19 to get in there, but I figured if we bring in a couple major championship trophies with us, they'll let the rules slide on that one.' Having won the Masters, PGA Championship and Open Championship, Scheffler can complete the career Grand Slam next summer at the U.S. Open.
