
Sharjah to host 'Ocean Man' open- water swimming contest on April 19-20
Sharjah is gearing up to host the 'Ocean Man' championship for the first time, bringing one of the world's top open-water competitions to Al Khan Beach on April 19-20.
Organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the event will welcome professional athletes, amateur swimmers, and water sports enthusiasts for an action-packed weekend.
Swimmers of all levels will have a chance to test their endurance in a series of races. The 10-kilometre race is the ultimate challenge for experienced swimmers, while the 5-kilometer race offers a tough but a manageable distance for intermediate competitors.
For those looking for a shorter but still competitive swim, there will be a 2-kilometer race, while a 500-meter sprint will give families and young swimmers an opportunity to join in the fun. Teams can also take part in a 3×500 meter-relay, adding a high-energy group element to the event.

On Saturday, swimmers can take part in a 2 km speed challenge, and teams will compete in a 3 x 500 m relay, designed to promote team spirit. 500 m Children's Race A special 500-metre race for children aged 7 to 14 is also scheduled, aiming to foster a love for sports and encourage healthy, active lifestyles in a fun and safe competitive environment. Full-Service Field Hospital Near Race Site Al Jasmi emphasised that safety is a top priority.
