SGCA highlights University Challenge, AI Skills Camp

The Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA), presented by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), has dedicated two categories in its 12th edition this year, namely – the University Challenge and the AI Skills Camp (AISC) – to recognise creative competition in smart communication and promote technological and digital innovations in government communication. The University Challenge category of the SGCA involves a three-day creative competition in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), inviting students from universities across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to showcase innovative communication projects. AI Skills Camp The AISC, to be held in partnership with the Rubu' Qarn Life Skills Center in Sharjah, seeks to foster a creative environment to impart and boost practical skills in artificial intelligence, focusing on the production and management of government and media content using smart technologies. Alya Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, reaffirmed the SGCA's objective and keenness to support creative competition in smart communication, rewarding excellence and outstanding achievements in digital communication and effectively utilising modern technologies in interactive public engagement. This aligns with rapid technological advancements that have become a cornerstone of government communication processes, she added. The SGMB Director noted that the two categories recognise and encourage university students to innovate and support constructive ideas and strategies, contributing to the effective and enhanced quality of government communication. Such categories expand the award's scope and reach, enabling broader participation to serve the vital government communication sector at the national, regional, and global levels. The 12th edition of the prestigious SGCA boasts 23 categories across strategic sectors, including government entities, international organisations, the private sector, individual awards, the 'Best Innovators Competition in Smart Communication' award, jury awards, and partner awards. The SGCA Award is open for submissions across all its categories until July 24. Winners will be announced and awarded during the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) in September. All details, terms and conditions, criteria, and submission methods for each category are available on the award's official website:

SGCA calls on global innovators in 'Soft Power'

Organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the award reaffirms its focus on the 'Soft Power' category to recognise innovative communication strategies that use culture, arts, sports, technology, music, and drama to strengthen communication between governments and societies, while shaping global perceptions. This category reflects a modern yet comprehensive approach to human interaction and engagement. The 'Soft Power' category aims to redefine communication by embracing the latest technological advances and creative methods. The award is currently accepting nominations until July 24, 2025. It features 23 categories across five main sectors: Government and international organisations, private sector, individual awards, partner awards, and jury awards. Those interested in participating in the 2025 edition, with winners set to be honoured this September. His Excellency Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of SGMB, noted that the award highlights the UAE's and Sharjah's efforts to establish an international presence. 'Incorporating soft power into communication helps build global partnerships, attract investment, and encourage cultural and scientific exchange, all of which contribute to long-term social and economic stability,' Allay emphasised. The SGCA promotes the use of tools such as music, film, arts, drama, and sports as effective mediums for public communication. These forms of expression play an important role in overcoming language and cultural barriers, raising public awareness, reinforcing national identity, and promoting shared human values. This year's judging panel, made up of communication and media experts, will evaluate entries in the 'Best Investment in Soft Power to Support Communication Programs' category based on objective criteria. Evaluation will include the originality and clarity of the message, its alignment with a soft power medium, and its global reach. Judges will also assess the message's ability to challenge stereotypes or convey universal human values, along with measuring public engagement. Special emphasis is placed on innovation in communicating the message and its potential to make a lasting impact. Last year, the 'Soft Power' category was awarded to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), hosted by the UAE. The event earned recognition for its use of creative communication and cultural diplomacy to raise awareness about climate change, while showcasing opportunities for sustainable investment. It was widely considered a standout example of how storytelling can turn a policy message into a global call to action.

SPC Ramadan Majlis wraps up with discussion on positive values

The event, held in Aljada, saw a strong turnout of senior officials, media professionals, and the public, including His Exellency Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of SGMB, Her Excellency Alya Al Suwaidi, Director of SGMB, Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director of the House of Wisdom, and Asma Al Juwaied, Manager of SPC. The main session featured eminent Egyptian Islamic scholar Mostafa Hosny, who led a discussion on 'Family and Raising Future Generations.' The conversation, moderated by media professional Abdulraouf Amira, emphasised the role of positive family values and right upbringing in shaping both personal and societal development. Stressing how critical role the family unit plays in building future generations, Hosny argued that the foundation of good parenting lies in values like respect, security, and mutual responsibility. Right upbringing, he noted, does not merely need rules but also requires good role models and examples. The session also addressed the significance of creating a supportive environment for children, highlighting how they form their beliefs based on what they see in their parents. Hosny urged parents to actively listen to their children and establish a safe space for open communication, helping them develop balanced values and a strong sense of identity. In his discussion on effective parenting, Hosny outlined the four key aspects of a child's upbringing, which include their beliefs in themselves, their family, their values (with an emphasis on religion), and their connection to their country. The speaker also underlined the value of choosing the right social circle, as it plays a major part in shaping a child's character. Another key point of the session was the importance of tolerance in human relationships. Hosny called individuals to begin with self-improvement and personal responsibility, creating an environment based on empathy, fairness, and respect for one another. Organic Farming and Youth Vision The Majlis also hosted a special side session on 'A Youth's Perspective on Organic Farming,' featuring Saeed Al Rumaithi, the youngest founder of an organic farm in the UAE. The talk revolved around the significance of organic farming and its impact on public health and society, as well as the use of natural fertilisers and materials in agricultural production. Al Rumaithi shared his experience, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities youth face in the agricultural sector, and how sustainable farming can be developed further in the country. The event, sponsored by Sharjah National Hotels, also featured interactive activities and competitions for attendees. SPC's Ramadan Majlis is an annual dialogue platform that brings together thinkers, media professionals, and experts to discuss pressing societal issues and trends and offer insights that contribute to the development of public discourse and culture.
